This is one of Rei's "Bad-ass" moments, even though the attack barely did anything to Koan, a normal enemy would have been instantly killed with this attack, not to mention Koan is from the future, where all of the baddies are stronger.

Fun Fact: This "Burning Mandala" Attack was given to Rei to highlight her spiritual nature. The Eight Symbols you see are the eight buddhist symbols, representing thr four corners of the world. (North, Northeast, East, Southeast, South, Southwest, West, Northwest.) The term "Mandala" Also reffers to Buddhism.

I think the 2nd set of attacks are mostly the cool/interesting ones. Most of the first set were weak looking, and the last set were mostly VERY weird and weak looking.

Good thing this is the set we see the most of.

I'm not sure it's chinese. Well, like she said, it's a mandala (pretending I know anything about it), so the symbols belong in a mandala. Anyhow, I think it's actually japanese, since Rei is a xintoist, makes use of ofundas and such.
