@zecorezecron Liquid Nitrogen is cheaper than LOX because the atmosphere is made up of over 78% Nitrogen versus 20.9% Oxygen. Not only that, but to refine LOX to 99.5% purity is more costly than distilling crude Nitrogen. When you make cryogenic fluids such as LOX and LIN (Liquid Nitrogen), you take the heat out of processed air until it liquifies.
Continued... Both are mixed and you distill the two in tall cold boxes or towers until you purify the Oxygen in the top half and The Nitrogen in the bottom. Nitrogen has more commercial use and is cheper.
Not only that...but Liquid Nitrogen is INERT and does NOT support combustion.
Liquid Oxygen is the ONLY one of the two that would support combustion. Nitrogen is actually used in fire supression on C-5 military cargo planes.
almost any accelerant will leave a residual taste in the meat.. I don't know about LOX though.
The best way to light up a grill is using just newspaper. It won't light up in 30 secs, but it will result in more equal distribution of heat and better tasting meat. I also like to use used pizza boxes, because the fat added to the kraft paper will light it up very fast.

I use a roofer's torch hooked to a propane tank to light the charcoal. Less dramatic but equally effective and somewhat safer. The tank lasts over a year.
Say goodbye to the bottom of that grill.

Wouldn't that rust the grill like nobody's business?
zecorezecron 5 months ago
@zecorezecron Depends on the plating of the grill.

Inexperienced? Fill a supersoaker with liquid oxygen to do this from a safe distance.

con i make LOx in my house?
kackiz 10 months ago
irongac: LOX is not an accelerant, and it won't leave any residual taste any more than blowing a fan at the fire to "fan the flames" so to speak.

How much does liquid oxygen cost?
Omnywrench 1 year ago
@Omnywrench Probably a bit cheaper than liquid nitrogen considering it's boiling point is a little higher.

for those inclined to try this at home, make SURE you light the grill with the paper and then pour the LOX over it.
if you soak the charcoal with LOX first and then toss in a match, the resulting explosion will take you out, along with a swath of your neighborhood.

did it burn through the bottom of the grill?
edmovi 2 years ago
It looks like it did!!! That's awesome!!!
jdbaron25 2 years ago
There are vent holes in the bottom so the charcoal gets air flow.
madwilliamflint 2 years ago
You don't need airflow while you poor the O2 coz that's the O right there to fuel the flame :))
doct0revil 2 years ago
Well right. But a normal grill has those, needed or not.
madwilliamflint 2 years ago
You can see the flames coming through the bottom like Hot Magma!

What do you suppose would happen if you put what you wanted to grill on the grill first with the fire below and pouring the LOX over it?
Still awesome video. =D
