The Dreamcast did everything right in the gaming market in my oppinion. :). Ignore the fact it didn't have a DVD player. I don't buy consoles to watch movies or use it as some sort of Media Player. I buy consoles to play games. Long live the Dreamcast! A pure retro classic. :D

Dont get me wrong, but there probably is little to no point them releasing a Sega console. I mean think about it. All the games that WOULD (possibly) have been exclusive on a Sega console has been ported over to the likes of Wii and XBOX.

Sega are making more money than they ever did on the console market.

You have to think about it logically. Why would Sega go back to console making party when there making even MORE money by selling out to 3rd party developers?

Not me. I truly believe that SEGA thinks that it's time for them to get back into the console market. Considering that the PS3 has been a dismal failure, there's now an open spot for SEGA to take down the company that defeated them a decade ago.

I suppose we are entitled to our own opinions, but to my mind it will just be a market failure, releasing it now.

Sega will just find itself sandwiched in the console market between THREE sucessful rivals. No matter how hard they try, SEGA will not dethrone these rivals.

It might be better to try and throne the handheld market instead, giving the failure that was the PSP (Pricey, not enough choice) and shoddy graphics on the DS.

Think about it. Would consumers be racing to get a new Sega console when people have just got comfortable with their X360, PS3 and Wii's, and Sega games are on 3rd party developers anyway?

If it was released in the next-gen market, I would probably jump on a Sega console.

Even if SEGA decided to rejoin the console market, They would have a difficult battle at the start. 1) What on-line feature would they have that would be better than current features that the other consoles do? 2) What killer app would they produce (Shenmue III, maybe)? 3) Would it be backwards compatible to Dreamcast #1? In other words, a new SEGA system would have to do LEAPS and BOUNDS above everyone else. The way technology advances, that may be difficult to do.

I have a feeling that Sega will be pressured from the market once again, because whatever SEGA comes out with, (like a "Dashboard" for thiers), other companies will try and copy it and try to keep themselves ontop. Look at the Wii and X360. And it would probably BETTER online (we know SEGA is KING at ONLINE )

Backwards compatable? Interesting feat to keep Dreamcast #1 games alive. But might be avoided to keep development prices down = cheaper to customer.
