I lived here for 16 years. I love the country and the culture but not necessarily the majority of people. It will take 100 years, to Thailand found the connection to the world. Who does not believe, is a dreamer... Sorry, BUT SO IT IS.

I visited Thailand recently in March of this year. I will say if you want traditional and great culture Chiang Mai in the North is a great place. The people are kind and I had some great experiences. If you want crazy party then head South.

I've been 5 times over the past 3 years. I say go if you haven't gone. Do the south islands, Khao Sok national park, and go to Chiang Mai as well as north hill tribe country. Thailand is beautiful. Just be aware that scams run rampant and do keep track how many beers or food you consumed as it's common to get over charge bills. I find the Thai to be a bit overly aggressive towards tourists at walking ATM's in the 2 big cities, but really cool in rural areas. Just go.

Today the illegal government ordered the military to open fire on the red shirts. Many people were injured ,killed,but the media covered up everything & reported only that some red shirts got just minor injuries from the confrontation.This is an outrageous and blatant lie! Even my friends in HK saw video clips of how the soldiers dragged some elderly women by the hair into a military compound to lock them up. Some clearly shot, badly injured dragged away, but none of this being reported on TV!
