ok im not complaining or anything i like this but this made me so sad to see something so cute and sweet ,hurt like that [even though i know it wasnt in pain!] i started crying and had to pause it and pull my self togeather. poor baby i hope hes/shes not in pain and she/he is so cute when it peeps! hope no one hates on me for this.
can you tell me how you trained that chicken? I could tell it was semi juevenile by the fact of size, feathering progress, and it still chirps. I have 2 new Silkie bantams and a Auracana, and I'd like to raise them to be human friendly, to the point of being picked up without complaint, or at least eating out of my hand :P
@Zeuqe400 we handle our chickens every day - show up with food - be calm around them - they come running when they see us - and love to be picked up. Chickens are very smart and can even be trained to do tricks!
@alidansma You said it. I have a hen who fell behide the brooderbox when she was little and was stuck there for hours before I noticed her. She has a kink in her neck now, but she is doing great. Is this silkie of yours still around?
I am very sorry for this Chicken! It is so cute. Poor thing, its head is dragging on the floor. Did it survive? I feel really bad for it. My mom wants one of them.
thank you for this video.. shortly after watching, i noticed one of my silkies doing the exact same thing. i only had Furosemide / lasex, but worked like a charm.. this is definately Swelling related. after about 0.3ml mixed with chick feed, once a day for 3 days, and the bird was fine. THANK YOU!
HELP my new chick has a wierd lump forming on its chest. im not sure if its normal development or it might be meraks disease. i need advice. PLZ DONT REMOVE THIS COMMENT!
@them34 I know this comment was a long time ago - but for future readers - chicks get lumps on their chest after eating - they are stroign the food in their crop befor eit is digested - after a few hours it will go away.
I had a little guinea pig with a neurological disorder, who could only run in circles and shook her head if you touched her there. Our guinea pigs led short, unhappy lives.
I just don't think rodents make good pets. How are your chickens? Do they show affection to you?
i am planning to buy one of those too but i dont know where to buy them. Do you think they sell here in the Philippines? how much do one of those cost? thanks :)
I had a little 1 week old develop this type of synrome. I gave him poly-vi-sol (baby liquid vitamins) and vitamin E capsule to get him better. He's perfectly fine now, and he was just as bad or worse than that little guy.
Our Silky Chicken had the exact same problem, and we fixed it with nutralife vitamins "Selenium A,C,E Plus" its a high potency antioxidant, Just dissolve it in water, and give to the chicken in a teaspoon, morning and night, in 1 week our chicken was back to normal. Just pick it up at the local health food shop, its for humans.
Lol, I got a grey one myself, they get to the size of a normal chicken, and appear bigger because of their 'fur'
And do they small bad, If you leave them in the garden (mines in the front garden, no fence, just likes it so much inside) they sorta pick up the smell of flowers, well, Bac (my chicken) eats the flowers, especially daisies.
no they dont smell bad. unless they get a bunch of chicken goop on thier feet feathers.. which is common in non-clean keeping areas.. but if well kept, they are a fantasticly clean bird. i have 4 which free range in my subberbs backyard. great pets for young children as well. but NOT good if you have a dog. the birds are to teritorial and they will challenge the dog, contenually.. "oddly, my dog got lost. so i guess the birds won."
@smileforJB 2 things, one they don't, and two, they will get somewhat bigger, but they won't be above 3-4 pounds (1-1.8kilos). the one in the video is a juevenile, I'd say 2-3 months in age
@smileforJB The poop might get on your nerves depending what kind of yard you have. I live in a regular house and pressure wash the patio every other day, the smell doesn't bother me at all. As far as the way they themselves smell, I personally sniff their heads and backs while nuzzling them, I love the way they smell, just thinking about it warms me.
It seems that the three (out of 50 birds and a few years of breeding) that have come down with this have all been about 2-3 months old.
I am treating the current case with vitamin B complex, and children's motrin until I can get some prednisone, but I have read that Prednisone is the best thing for traumatic brain injury.
Maybe even after the swelling has subsided there could be brain damage from where the blood was cut off from a section of the brain for a period of time - I don't know this but it is just an idea.
I have another bird with this condition now and I am pretty sure it is due to a brain injury. Silkies have vaulted skulls which means there are places where their brains are not coverd by their skull. If the chicks are eating and one chick pecks a silkie in the wrong spot it causes the brain to swell and puts pressure on the brain at the edges of the skull.
It's really rather sad considering the bird is in such good condition and so well cared and fed. I hope my htachling doesn't get this :'[ Very sweet little creature, though.
I had one of mine do that , I called her crazy daisy she would take off running and turn round and round but she was so sweet . her head did not do as bad as yours but it did lean to the side.
