I think the hook kind of makes the meaning of the track apparant. Whether she is a really strong christian or not i do not know but even if she wasn't, art doesn't always have to be the complete truth. The song seems to be about faith, the fear of losing it, the desire to keep it. A plea to God to let her know which way to go. Only so much can come from the soul and the amount of songs artists put out these days if it ALL did then they must be leading some very very crazy lives : )
