  • I really love Japan, but honestly never knew about this!!

  • Comment removed

  • pedobear

  • In America the kids wouldn't even get cold with all those layers of fat hahahaha.

  • *Hrm I wonder what this is about*

*10 seconds in half naked children go running out of a school*

    JAPAN!

  • Japan.. what a great place to live LOL

  • dead girl at the desk - 2:12 hahaha

  • @f3rnand0e3

    lmao

  • Ya REALLY guys, no subtitles? Get it together.

  • So does this mean that Japanese social workers are judo black belts.

  • Wow, in the states, you would have the police come in and take these idiots down. and put them in prison.

  • @Bander1 And look where your education system led.

But yeah this is a bit overboard...

  • What it this a Japanese Uyoku Far Right wing school for Kids..

    VERY FUNNY.

  • I kind of feel bad for that girl at 8:20, she is afraid of the world and leaving what she knows :( It has to be done of course, but she obviously loathes herself in some way also.

  • Awesome... Enlgish video with Japanese dialogue. Makes complete fucking sense, right?

  • I need darn subtitles!!!

  • I found the transcript on Journeyman's website and made it into a subtitle file. If you have a program like VLC Player, you can set a custom subtitle track. Enjoy.

  • what the fuck is it with Journeyman and not having subtitles?

  • 怖いですよ。

  • @AliceDeMalice I wish the Japanese could feel the fear in the streets of the US,Europe, and most other places in the world. We all fear the future, all over the globe, and most of us feel lucky just to have a place to sleep and something to eat. Japan....you are not alone !

  • People everywhere (especially the Japanese) fail to c when a mayor problem is coming and thing it falls apart in a day

  • 4 fuck sake how hard is it to translate from Japanese!

  • i pity those children having to study wholeeee dayyyy

  • Oh, that's ok, Journeyman Pictures, I didn't want to know what the Japanese people said anyway.

  • I can't understand something the narrator says right in the beginning. "...a uniform is no uniform. Those who are ______ are allowed to wear shirts,..."

The hell does he say in that blank?

  • @eatcrayons1 I hear ill

  • I accidentally played several of this video simultaneously and totally freaked out. It made me want to SCREAM with all those kids' voices and japanese speaking in the interviews at the same time!

  • Hey guys this is a pretty terrible solutionn but you can actually hit CC on the bottom right of the video and there is a transcribe audio option.

  • @halocekicksass You can transcribe the audio, but it doesn't translate; it just translates phonetically and chooses English words they might sound like. That's not a solution at all XD

  • There is a need for English subtitles for the conversations in Japanese.

  • So many of the realities of Japan are heartbreaking.

In anime we always see Japanese life as an interesting, fun, and happy-go-lucky society, and the hikikomori's seem to be always portrayed for comic relief....but seeing this video I realize that much of it is glamour to provide a sweet release from the truth for Japanese society. I still love Japan, but I'm happy that this video has been able to help me better understand Japanese society better, being a North-American.

  • stay years in room?

    doing wt?!?!?!

    wanking?

  • LOL...at 1:05, the instructor is wearing a winter jacket. this is not toughen up, its cruelty. no wonder japs are suiciding at a higher rate in comparison to the other countries.

  • in the beginning, the lady was saying, "in japan, we don't have pneumonia." lol

  • --------> /watch?v=_rIPe5akN48

  • @hojoleon- lol they dont have breasts so no need for sexual thoughts or boners xD

  • Duuude, this is soooo not ichiban!

Remember that China has been killing their girls. There will soon be a 70 million strong angry, sexually frustrated male Chinese army that China will have to export if they don't want their country destroyed from within.

Japanese birth rates are very low. Either they'd better snap out of it or tell Honda to redesign ASIMO so he can shoot rockets out of his ass.

  • 先生も上半身裸になってお手本を見せて頂きたいものです。

  • put some clothes on the little girl

  • DAMN!!!

  • nice subtitles

  • substitle plz

  • Oh my God!

  • journeymanpictures really needs to fucking provide subtitles for foreign languages

  • I've seen "thanks for the subtitles", but it seems there are no subtitles, or am I wrong? Huh?

  • @tht707 its called sarcasm

  • @323AuTo323: Ah, I see. But in this case it’s irony (very appropriate), not sarcasm.

Sarcasm in most cases is something very despisable.

  • The only "disorder" we have, is being severely neglected, ostracized, and misled by a dying society and even our own families because we refuse to or can not fit their bullshit mold of perfection.

We feel so confused about how to proceed towards living a more rewarding life, because we have been systematically taught to hate ourselves for our failure at becoming another unimaginative, xenophobic, dehumanizing, collectivist drone.

Our greatest adversary, is no farther than the closest mirror

  • Thanks again for subtitling this Journeyman. Much appreciated.

  • japan has a very unique society in that it is a mix of western capitalism, materialism, pop culture and the old traditions of a very disciplined state. In many ways the country is very modern or even ahead of time but in others it's still stuck in the middle ages. So it really begs the question what is more important, social and collective stability or personal wellbeing. I think they are going in the right direction but still have a long way to go.

  • this japanese problem is coming to america just u wait.....

  • You faggots... it seems you've been prevented from providing any sensible subtitles for the Japanese spoken here.

    great journalism I must here.

  • this is sparta?

  • Fucking gooks

  • Very interesting. But where are the subtitles for the Japanese dialogs??? I would like to know what they are saying. Thanks.

  • @Bilonda Maybe journeymanpictures were expecting a neural linguistic device to automatically attach to our head so that we may understand?. I would be nice if they were intelligent enough to realize that this is a documentary for the non Japanese so as we understand the issues they face, but alas they are not!.

@Journeymanpictures -: So where are the subtitles?

  • @Bilonda the director was too lazy

  • sorry, but this is just horrendous. god, i wish i could go there and talk to all these kids. somehow tell them that their worth is not in their grades and achievements. =(

  • once Islam conqueres Japan, it will be hell

  • @Plautus123 you gotta search " Islam in japan " you tube video ...

  • they could become perfect murderers, what a pity they never played the game hitman

  • Oh my.....

  • I don't think it's meant to raise "corporate warriors". I was raised like seen on this video but I enjoyed and missed the time.

I learned how good this education is on some and how bad on the other.

I remember what I was told.

"Don't fxxk our friends, Respect the old, Honor our enemy, Love your spouse, Die for our kids"

Every generation grows incompletely and quickly have to start directing next generation.

I ask people who only criticize as if they don't have youth issues in their country.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but this video just makes me laugh.

  • Why are the Japanese people not translated? The speaker is in English and then the people on the video talking are speaking Japanese. Do they expect everyone watching to be bilingual? lol

  • This video would be great if there were captions or some shit, why are there long segments of people speaking Japanese without any sort of translation?

  • "churning out corporate samurai" ... "the cram school is a japanese institution"

    Holy mother....what a caricatural view.

Look in the mirror, look hard at yourself.

All countries of the "good old" Europe are like that, US is like that. Also how about translating what people say themselves ?

  • Kids freezing while doing outdoor aerobics is very shocking. Leave them alone, kids need to play, not to study from 8:30 to 23:00...

If Japan makes so few children that because their society is going the wrong way, this is the same for Korea too.

  • also, this is a bunch of stuck-up conservative crap. these problems are all around the industrialized world. you could make an exact same documentary about britain or usa.

  • please someone respost this with subtitles.

  • they already changed the system.

  • haha why are they teaching them shirtless? the japanese are fascists

  • this is disgusting..what do they try to do there ? turning children into working robots - such bullshit

  • Just finish watching the documentary...interesting what is taking place in Japan, I wasn't aware of "Hikkimori" , also I didn't know that Japan had abolished Saturday school, Japan needs to be very careful I'm sure they don't want to turn into the USA, where the population is full of ignorant people.

  • Just finish watching the documentary...interesting what is taking place in Japan, I wasn't aware of "Hikkimori" , also I didn't know that Japan had abolished Saturday school, Japan needs to be very carefulI'm sure they don't want to turn into the USA, where the population is full of ignorant people.

  • I have only watched the first few minutes of this documentary , if young children were made to go outside in cold weather without shirts in the USA, that school would face charges of child abuse. O.k. I'm going to continue to watch the remaining, so it looks very interesting.

  • My Father who was a Prisoner in Japan for 3yrs in WW2 always told me that the Janpanese have a natural cruel streak and are cruel to each other, so they were cruel to all prisoners beatings starvation and torture or worked to death

  • all robots mind u know no self thinking

  • The children must be freezing. I'm also confused why the young girls aren't wearing shirts.

  • The teaching class looks like dog-training to create uniform & standardized robots rather than healthy, independent thinking individuals. The Japanese are very conformed to social codes & conducts at the surface, but are very sick deep down inside because of emotional self-oppression. No wonder they killed and raped so many people in Korea, China and South East Asia during WW 2 cuz you couldn't expect compassion from these human-skinned animals who have no compassion to oneselves.

  • I think Japan is too much mature, and changing thing. I thought Japan respect people in a kind way. I was wrong. Teachers treating kids bad isn't the right way for them to learn. I'm glad I was born in USA. I didn't learn much in school, but I keep trying to do my best to finish high school. I'm Asian no one force me to do anything. Beside not all Asian are smart.

  • Why are there no subtitles on any of these videos? Just because I learn about Japan doesnt mean that I KNOW Japanese. I want to hear what THEY have to say.

  • battle royale looks interesting. is that the same one as the movie with remote controlled dog tags shown earlier?

  • battle royale looks interesting

  • Erhus are Chinese

  • subtitles please.

  • naked children must study animal thinking.

  • forcing the kids to get naked in public and telling them it's ok to do so...that's how you create a generation of porn actresses and actors

  • i wish people would be more gentle when trying to communicate with 'hikikomori' people...

  • @MerulaMondlicht Not to mention that Australian kid who tried to light his school on fire because he thought the teachers treated them like "sub-humans". Basically, his teachers said he could not go through life as a spoiled pompous emo kid, and in response he tried to light the school on fire.

Too much individualism, not just in America.

There is also the atomisation of other things like parenting, which I think (as a sociology major) will make a generation of whimps, kids with no autonomy.

  • @Tatsumi67 I agree with you.

  • why no shirts

  • do all these kids get jobs when they graduate at college?

  • @CaptCamping Actually, in Japan, your considered fucked if you haven't lined up your job BEFORE you finish college (and if you don't go to college, before you finish highschool). Obviously that puts mad pressure on certain times of the year, where people end their degrees, and literally all the uni students ending that year are out for a mass-job hunt.

  • subtitles would've been nice....

  • No subtitles for the Japanese dialogs??

  • The Tokyo kindergarten and the Nagoya school...a bit on the extreme side

But like the video said these are pretty rare examples.

However with Japan's seemingly endless recession, I can understand why parents are freaking out about their child's level of education...That being said, something needs to be done when you have students decapitating each other for revenge on the school system.

(On a side note...I think that boy they interviewed from the Nagoya school need a hug ): )

  • Because people are human beings, not robot. or machine.

The idea is very simple, but I can't fathom why Japanese (or Asian 'rigid' education culture, for the most part) can't understand such simple thing.

It's so funny sometimes to see how these 'older' folks can be so damn 'smart' in doing & dealing with business, politics, economics, yet so foolish and clueless when it come to simple common-sense PSYCHOLOGY!

  • @nikiwonoto i dont think so.nothing really changes.studying at school is still very stressful.i have one year left.im happy that im going to put an end to the fucked-up education next year.

  • @nikiwonoto My Opinion to the Question you asked is that its less these kids are being educated than being trained. Trained to be financially successful and nothing else. If you want to be successful Forget family, forget a real social life, don't even think about being in love, and forget finding real long term happiness in something other than material objects and money. That is what the system of japan is saying to they're people.

  • wtf

  • why doesn't journeymanpictures ever add subtitles to interviews of non-english speaking people? I want to know what people are saying!

  • @decamerondix I agree, they should put some subtitle when the japanese are talking. it would definitely add value to the content they're delivering.

  • Why would kids stay indoor never wanting to come outside? I hope someone help Japanese education to change its way for the better. I think kids need freedom, learn what's right and wrong, and have less study. Japanese would come better person if they work on their weak point.

  • japanese think they are special, so they hide their weak and failures like they dont exist... its called denial, actually japanese are just fucking slaves

  • I used to spend a lot of time in my room, it's called puberty.

Now that I'm in my 20's I spend more time outside.

  • @timetraveler3797

maybe its for you but not for everyone

  • @tazuna01

You miss the the point. People need to be encouraged to go out in the world, and to have social responsibility. Being part of something working for a higher goal is essential for psychological health, otherwise decay and depression will occur. When I finally learned this, I felt better, and didn't feel like hiding from the world anymore. Please spread peace and love throughout the world, so it will be a nicer place to live in. Good wishes for you.

  • @timetraveler3797 great reply. thanks for writing & sharing it.

  • @timetraveler3797

omg you have no idea how right you are..

now after i joined the army it makes so much sense!

    thanks

  • Is ABC Australia to fucking cheap to make a documentary with translation???seriously What The Fuck...this could have been informative but it really was not !

  • its the most ashamed video that i ever saw

  • @imeiness

Okinawa is a part of USA. Our army are still park there for surpervise them !

  • Man do these hard headed old fashioned Japanese families really think this type of education is good for youngsters their education ideas along with China's and Korea's all emphasize rote learning, no room for much creative learning and individual development

  • @havik206 They don't want a person with a personality they want a robot.

  • @MrZLeroy92 I guess that's why in contrary, America have many rap artists, boyband singers, and movie stars.

  • @ryanc519 Which comment are you referring to seeing that i have 3.

  • @MrZLeroy92 the one below mine...of course...

  • although sum kids jus need to man up or get a fuckin smack

  • i feel sorry for those Asian kids.it also happens in china and korea .the kids are facing too much pressure.can those parents just let them go

  • @240kankan I say WE, as the young generation (Gen X, Y) change things around!

Spread the change, BE the change.

"Be the Change you want to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi

  • @nikiwonoto change?there's nothing we can change.we chinese are in a much worse situation than japanese.we were pushed to work on our study by our parents.we get up at at 5:30 or 6:00 a.m in cold winter and go to bed around 10:00 p.m,totals 12-13classes,inculding self-study classes.its more like miltary training.we have classes in the weekends and summer vocation in some junior high schools ,some primary schools and all the senior high schools.its not getting better, its getting worse.

  • @240kankan we also have phycical training.we have 3 times military trainning.each of them lasts around 15 days.we have to stand in the sun and practise march for around 8 -10hours a day.thats not finished yet.some schools also arrange activities in the night.there is also some phyical test in junior high school.to parepare this test,we have to parectise for two semisters.we practise running and jumping in the morning.every student runs a few cycles at their full speed .fucked-up education

  • @240kankan seriously? you mean now in China??

shit..i thought the young generation (Gen Y & below) now can already somewhat 'rebel' against that, and have more freedom of expression? no?..

  • @240kankan They really don't care about you guys personality, mental strength, or emotional strength do they? its all about the Education which honestly is more like training (trained to be a robot and make more money for the system). Get ready because you're countries divorce rate, suicide rate, and depression is about to go up while mental and emotional health goes down. Have faith and try to your own person (an individual) with your own real personality and thoughts and you will be fine.

  • @240kankan

I don't know about china. Korean kids for sure, they do go through a lot of pressure and stress just like typical Japanese kids.

  • I guess nobody teach him how to write

  • I dont think this is a normal school, it seems to be different.

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, so it's rather strange for a school to educate children on toughing it up with the cold, but what I find most bizarre is the parents' attitude. Clearly, some of the kids are wearing shirts and going without shirt is optional...so, why don't most parents just say, fuck this my kid's health is more important than a higher grade, and send their kids to school properly dressed? I'm not trying to be judgemental but it kinda breaks my heart to see kids shivering during recess without need.

  • For some reasons, journeyman pictures likes to report negatively on Japan, without bothering to translate all that the japanese have to say. I've yet to see positive coverage of japanese society. I wonder why?

  • @whatsinthatbox journeymanpictures is just a distributor, they dont produce the shows they distribute. The clip was probably from the Australian Broadcasting Network's, Four Corners program but I could be wrong.

  • @whatsinthatbox its not negative its an in depth look at certain cultural aspects, not Japan as a whole

  • @whatsinthatbox

    because that not interresting.

  • @whatsinthatbox Perhaps because Japan is not the sugar coated lollipop society you thought it was?

  • @whatsinthatbox Why done't you make a video on a positive Japan yourself, nevertheless the Journeyman material is the truth, I must admit it would be nice to have subtitles

  • @whatsinthatbox Mayby because westerners are negative to solutions and methods that are not western.

  • @whatsinthatbox i know what you mean but actually its not thaaat negative, sicne they show that there is some public awareness and solutions for this problem. still i wonder why they haven translated that one female social worker.

  • @whatsinthatbox because japan's good points are widely coveraged by everybody else

this is factual criticism, deal with it

  • @whatsinthatbox Americans are ignorant and only see one view, their view.

  • @OhhThatsNice Like you, stereotyping 311 million Americans with your single ignorant point of view?

  • @ddbonner Why yes, yes I am!

  • @OhhThatsNice Well then I apologize, you're absolutely right. You're ignorant, you're an American, and you're only interested in your point of view. Congratulations shithead!

  • @ddbonner Thanks a bundle!

  • @ddbonner And BTW I am American...

  • @whatsinthatbox Because life in Japan kind of sucks right now. Their economy has been awful for over a decade and they have lots of ongoing problems.

  • @whatsinthatbox

In an otherwise onesided appraisal of japanese society everywhere else i believe this is needed.

  • @whatsinthatbox try because theyre sick fucks. case and point. the most fucked up people on planet earth. they make the nazis and soviets look like choir boys. not to mention they make osama bin laden look almost humane.

  • @whatsinthatbox because not everything in the world is rainbows and smiles. that's the way that the media portrays Japan and they are just showing what is real life...i think that these documentaries are thoroughly informative...

  • this is not an acurate depiction of japan its trying too hard to make it seem like japan is some awful place or something

  • didnt there used to be subs?

  • wtf this is horrible!

    btw subtitles please

  • One of those little kids could take on a highschooler in America.

  • Why, oh why do you put up a documentary narrated in English with no subtitles?

  • this is nuts!!!

  • this is a news to me, thanks for the vid

  • wtf, put shirts on the girls.

  • @BABBALOZA

They're pre pubescent...their upper biddies are no different then the upper bodies of lil boys.....so uh, it's fine.

  • @midnull i dont know where you come from?? and the values you were taut!! that makes no sense at all, so flat chested women should walk the streets tops less because their upper bodies resemble a mans??? look i have respect for japan, but when it comes to girls and women they are fuckin pig sumbags!!! so yeah they need to put fuckin shirts on the little girls!!!

  • @BABBALOZA

Um, I'm talking about lil 3 year old GIRLS not women...there's a HUGE anatomical difference...

Besides, if women wanna walk topless, let them...there are nude beaches after all right?

And the women/girls of Japan are no different then the men/boys...of any country. There will always be hoes and sluts in any country you visit. So stop generalizing.

And my lil 3 year old niece runs around w/out a shirt on when it's really really hot at a lake. Who cares.

  • @midnull yeah, that's nice. Anatomical...lol, u don't know your ass from your elbow.

  • @BABBALOZA

Yes anatomical. Prepubescent girls and boys are the same except for their genitalia. That's it. It's when the hormones start to kick in is when the changes take place. But you should already know that.....I hope.

  • @midnull WOW, Thanks man your smart!!! Whats 2 plus 2???....lol.

  • @midnull your probably trying to talk sense to a senseless feminist from the US ... no point

  • @BABBALOZA they don't mind, because you know... most of us normal people don't actually find anything sexually disturbing or weird in little kids. People are so scared of paedophilia these days, that they overreact to the smallest things :S

What I would find more disturbing, is out of the whole documentary, that's the stuff you thought was so bad you had to make a comment about.

  • @TokyoZeplin oh yeah...it was just a tad too cold for them as well. I guess were your from looking like a homo is also normal...lmao!!

  • @BABBALOZA Where I'm from fashion doesn't dictate your sexuality, and being gay isn't considered an insult :) So apart from sexualizing little girls, I guess you're also homophobic. Nice!
