  • Who's your music from?

  • @bazz991 that's 'Jazz Ministry' - Mike Landau, Greg Mathieson, Vinnie Coaiuta and Abe Laborial I believe it's off the live album from the Baked Potato.

  • @doctordirtbag Ah, here I am, a bit of an eccentric musician, looking for ideas to secretly solo build some kind of nice dwelling in the bush round Sydneys lovely northern beaches, I laughed when I was quite surprised to find such decent music! I thought it was around that calibre, knew it wasn't Dave Weckle, but couldn't place it, I haven't listened to much Colaiuta(haven't heard of the others).

    Cheers!

  • how does the earth plaster holds on plastic ???…

How often do you have to "re-earthplaster" the house ?…∞

  • @vincent7520 it sticks right to the bags. The crevices between the bags help key the plaster to the wall also. Don't know how long the plaster will last - I haven't had the house long enough to find out. I expect the base coat of plaster to last a lifetime or longer however. The plaster you see right now is just the base coat. The final plaster will go on when the structure is finished.

  • I too thought... aliens when I first saw your cloud.:-) anything is possible. Heck, if you can make a house out of a bag. LOL

  • cloud looks like a hat

  • why the fcuk do these bags need to be protected from UV light?

  • @Flayprime just like most things plastic, they break down over time from u.v. exposure. I've got a pile of worthless plastic buckets to attest to that statement. Once they're covered, they'll stay in whatever state they were in forever. It's just a good idea to cover them while they're still strong enough to contain the earth inside them for extra protection from the elements. Maybe I don't understand your question?

  • Don't listen to the negative comments about the music. It kicks ass!!!

Love the house, please keep the updates comming. Thanks!!!

  • HAARP cloud

  • Good Job Dirt bag!!! Liked the video

  • Is not a cloud ,is a UFO!!!! Ha,ha,ha.Muy interesante este proyecto, some day I will build mine.

  • Well that music certainly undid any ecological good you would achieve with such a house.

  • @Voxnulla Ahhh, yet another music lover. Make a suggestion, and if I can get it past the yt music nazis that censor the audio on my vids, I'll put it up. That's the hardest thing about posting on youtube for me - do you know how to get around it?

  • @doctordirtbag Firstly, do not give in to copywrong dinosaurs to easily. Secondly, some labels agree to let you use music, but they place a buy button on the side. That is even true with this... sound. But seriously, A recording of a pack of hyenas is better then the elevator noise you use here.

  • @Voxnulla Got it. Pack of hyenas coming up. Elevator noise? Now that's just plain rude. BTW, the guys on this recording are some of the finest musicians in the world. I know it's not for everybody, but I'm truly curious as to what music you would suggest (barring a pack of hyenas), and, are you positive that everybody would agree with you?

  • @doctordirtbag Surely I can not be the first one to point this out. Truly the background music to you excellent material has casio-demo-song written all over it. If you want to change the tune I suggest you look at the classical composers. A lot of great works is available for the public domain. But I have a better idea. Why not push the music back to 10db and do some voice commentary. Otherwise some Debussy, Prokofiev or Camille Saint Saens perhaps.

  • @Voxnulla I think that's a fine suggestion. I'll keep it mind for the next vid.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • @doctordirtbag I thought the music was rather nice. Better than some of that loud bubble gum pop people use for their vids. Nice work on your owner built house. Wondering what state allows such alternative building. Any problems appeasing the code enforcing revenuers?

  • @doctordirtbag Genius and I bet even up here in Canada that concept of house would be nice and cozy even when it get's down to -45c in the winter. I admire you.

  • did you have your new friend over for dinner? ;)

  • @krononomikon not yet, but there are a few 3 legged cows roamin' around the property lately...

  • @doctordirtbag extra drumsticks ;)

  • The cloud was watching you

  • btw...chem clouds...not. They're lenticulars, you see them all the time downwind of mountains on a windy day. You'll even see them when it's not windy on theground, but blowing hard at altitude.

  • ...keep up all the great work, thanks again for such a detailed building log.

  • ...moisture in the uplifted air that condenses at higher, cooler altitudes.

Sailplane pilots soar in front of "lennies", it's called wave soaring. I've soared waves in the California desert where ther weren't any lennies formed...but the lifting wave front was there nonetheless...it's a lot like surfing a wave, except you don't slide down the front, you can actuyally "park" in the leading edge of it for the smoothest sustained altitude glide you can imagine.

Sorry for reverse order of posts..

  • Re the lenticular cloud, several folks threw definitions out but I did't see any real working explanation so here goes: that's a double decked wave (lenticular, as mentioned by others) cloud. They're caused when the winds are strong and strike a vertical land formation, typically mountains, deflecting the wind upwards in a uniform way so that they set up an undulation pattern. Whenever you see lenticulars, you'll mostly likely find a mountain range upwind. The cloud itself is formed by...

  • Doc, thanks for taking the time with all the work you're doing to post so many really helpful detailed shots of your work. Really great for folks like me and my wife who plan to earthbag build ourselves...once our house sells.

Right on re the comment on your music. Jeez, some people are never satisfied with anything.

  • Copied straight from Wikipedia - "Lenticular clouds (Altocumulus lenticularis) are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned perpendicular to the wind direction. Lenticular clouds can be separated into altocumulus standing lenticularis (ACSL), stratocumulus standing lenticular (SCSL), and cirrocumulus standing lenticular (CCSL). Due to their shape, they are often mistaken for Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs)."

  • yea im sure its lots of work.....but with the way our society is headed...im ready for it and feel i need to start now! this might sound crazy but if you needed help for a few days I would be willing to come down there and help with some labor so I could get a little hands on experience and ideas before I start on my own. If you have any welding projects you needed done I could help with that as well free of charge in exchange for some insight.

  • wow just watched all the vids.....amazing work your doing. I just bought 5 acres near ft garland colorado and am working on getting a design together for my castle made of dirt. Im off grid but believe I will have to get permits? how did you come up with the design and how did you like the earthship course? im debating on if i should do the course or use that time and money to get started right away?

  • @ryansanden Thanks for the comment. I didn't take an earthship course, just did a bunch of research on the web. I would highly recommend building a small structure to get an idea of what's possible, then use the gained info on your castle. Design-wise, I wanted curved walls for strength, and didn't want to go over 18 feet for roof span, but wanted high ceilings, and an open floor space. This is what I eventually came up with. I really believe smaller is better - after doing this awhile (whew!)

  • i come here for the tasty fusion licks. whats all this talk of houses being built?

  • @ggalexhutchings Now THAT"S a funny comment. THUMBS UP!

  • Great videos, I really appreciate you posting them. Any chance of some better music? lol

  • @chriswest1973 And what would "better music" be? Music is in the ear of the beholder. I'm a musician. I'm building the house. This is what I listen to while I'm building the house. I post the vids. So, given that, why would I use your choice of music for my videos? I guess the answer to your question, by logic, is "no". Sorry to be an ass, but I haven't had my coffee quota yet. Or, maybe you're not being serious? Thanks for watching.

  • how does the code process work, is this insurable, did you eventually pour concrete for your floor? so many questions!

  • @erikhardy1077 I've been pouring floors for the last month or so. They'll be a combo of concrete and adobe. Insurance may be necessary for a bank-financed tinderbox, but it's not a requirement for a self-financed fireproof home. Insurance=Banks. Banks=Evil. My opinion anyway. Permits and inspections are required if hooking up to the grid in this area, otherwise, not required. I choose to be off the grid. I do use code as a guideline for electric and plumbing, however.

  • Nice, but it cannot stand rain.

  • @SultanOfSwords Let me help you understand. Those bags look soft and fluffy, huh? They're not. They're 100 lb bricks, and they're hard as rock. Cover them with plaster and they stand forever. Thanks for your comment, but it doesn't hold water. : )

  • Very nice!!! Big thanks for sharing! I'll be waiting for the next vid...

  • Hey, so a couple of years of building by yourself and a helper. Are you building part time and working or is this your full time job? Also, have you posted about any posts about keeping within local codes? The work looks great. Good Luck.

  • i love what i saw so far. is the house finished?

  • @religiondestroys Still in progress. I've been installing all water lines and finishing any interior concrete work before I put up the next wall to enclose the house. Anything I can use the tractor for (sub floor fill and concrete) needs to be done before I put up that wall. Thanks for the comment.

  • @doctordirtbag well i cant wait to see the finished product! I am very excited for you! Me and my fiance want to build a eco-dome house too

  • For the paranoid... you could say it was a "chem cloud" except that would be a long trail left by an aircraft. For the rest of us its a Lenticular cloud often seen on the lee side of the Sierra Nevada mtns.

  • hey doc, i just watched/read through all of your videos and comments.

forgive me if I missed the answer to this, but: how long have you been working on the house (from beginning to end?)

    thanks!

  • @duececaboose I started the house in October of '09. So, so far about 20 months. Sounds like a long time to say it out loud, but it's gone by deceivingly fast. Thanks for watching and posting.

  • @doctordirtbag thanks for the response! you're doing a great job, buddy! please keep posting because we all want to see the finished product

  • The name of your cloud is Altocumulus lenticularis. Google it. :)

  • doc- the funny cloud is a chemcloud. and while a revious post made light of it- they are used for cloaking at time, or weahter modification and or scalar weather warfare.. if you haven't heard of chemtrails then you might want to watch what in the world are they spraying... it's avil in youtube.. great videos..

  • @brainnoise1 I've been taking pictures of chemtrails for quite awhile now. This particular formation just blew my mind. Like a chem-mushroom cloud. Could be shenanigans going on with NM Tech (they blow things up) but I'm pretty sure this thing came from an aircraft. Never seen anything like it before or since. But yeah, I've been trying to wake people up to chemtrails every chance I get. It's ridiculous. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • @doctordirtbag Thank you for responding. We're building our first earthbag emergency 'shack" in the fall... to be followed by something much less glorious than what you are doing... thak you for sharing... We think you're just doing wonderful work.

  • !!!! just lovely!!

  • Doctor Dirtbag, I do not see a foundation of any type in this video......

  • @TheDudeRulez09 I had pointed out the "rubble trench foundation" in my first version of this vid, then things got discombobulated and I had to start over again - sorry I forgot to put that tidbit in again. Frank Lloyd Wright was big on rubble trenches, and they're perfect for this type of building. There's lots of info on the web if you want to learn more about them.

  • @doctordirtbag I actually am a natural builder and have built several cob and strawbale homes, I just didnt see it in the video is all..

  • @TheDudeRulez09 OK - gotcha. Yeah, the first few shots show the start of the trench but doesn't show the gravel within the trench I guess. Just doing that section was a heart attack waiting to happen getting down 6 inches with a pick axe. Ground is extremely hard out there. I'll check out your vids... looks like good stuff

  • This is so awesome Doc, thanks for the update!

  • sooo cool!

  • well done!

  • Doc, that funky cloud is just a cloak for the interdimensional aliens who are also interested in the progress on your house. The whole multiverse is interested in natural, sustainable housing!

  • @Ahntara123 Planet PopTart! I KNEW it!!!

  • Awesome! Keep em' comin!
