It's sad to see people fighting over two beautiful child stars. Both Shirley Temple and Margaret O'brien were adorable and talented. Neither existed to spite the other, they are their own people. So please, stop comparing them.
hey if you like shirley temple, make sure to visit a fantastic tumblr; it's called miss-shirley-temple.tumblr.com. it's fantastic, i love the tumblr!!
I always loved James Dunn and Shirley's friendship together. It always looked like there was a real father-daughter relationship between them :) it's amazing how different and innocent things were back then.
For everyone who's saying the dress is too short, you obviously have never been to a recital for a little kid. You put them in a leotard to cover them up and build on from there. Some people just leave them in the leotard and tights and that's ok because THEY'RE DANCERS. Especially little girls because their legs are so short, if you put them in anything longer, you can't see what their legs are doing and if that's the case, why have them move their legs at all? Shirley was a tapper, it's all a
Her dress is really short because yes it's a tutu and also it was the style back then...during the great depression people were really poor, so the style for little girls was to make dresses with material that was left over from their mother's dresses....hence why they were short....there was not a lot of material.
can someone tell me the name of this song these are some words> "london bridge is falling down my fair lady iiii wanna make mud pie yes i would like to make a mess"
Where to even start with how much I love Shirley Temple. Her dresses are amazing! You could never even dream of such workmanship ever in a modern store. What I wouldn't give to own just one, to display. Then the is Shirley herself as an actress. At 6 years old I would expect a child to play with silly-putty and dolls. She dances like a doll with legs that move with grace with the chubby child body of silly putty. She is amazing and her movies are a national treasure. I Love her so much.
@mica24play I just love her dresses too! And did you know that many of them were made by her mother? There was so much more home sewing back then too, and it was done so well!
@DCFunBud ye gods, are you serious? No harm to the child who died so tragically but Shirley had more talent in her little finger than any of these painted little mini adults. Shirley could act, sing and dance and oh yes, made scores of films. :)
Anyone know the link to Shirley Temple's "BABY TAKE A BOW" in which she shares the stage with Bert Lahr? Her lyrics begin with "Everybody's asking me, Who's that bunch of personality? I'm presenting you right now, Baby, Take A Bow!...Hear them whispering, Hasn't she got everything? You're a standout! Listen to the compliments they hand out..."
Hi Sarah, Certainly this song is entitled "On Account of I Love You" . I have been looking for another Shirley Temple bit entitled "Baby Take A Bow" which begins with the lyrics: "Everybody's asking me: Who's that bunch of personality? I'm presenting you right now, Baby, Take a Bow!" Does anyone know the link to this? Anyway, thanks for such a good set of videos!
"Baby, Take a Bow" - This is part of the Birthday scene. Great early Shirley Temple vehicle that cemented her stardom. Mixture of good and evil with gangster storyline aginst Shirley's innocent cuteness. Actually banned in some countries because of Shirley's abduction by gangsters. Must see. Thanks for uploading.
I grew up in the Great Depression, two years younger than Shirley. I saw all her movies, starting at the age of five. It cost a dime for children to go to the local theater on Saturdays. By the time I was six, Shirley Temple had stolen my heart away, and I wanted to marry her. Finally, in fifth grade, the girls told me I can't marry her because she was older than me!
I love his voice, it's so unique and Pure :) I was Shirley Temple for a school project, where we had to dress as the person we did the report on, i sadly didn't get to wear a cute dress, i was Shirley Temple as an adult :)
I Completely Agree, it's so touching to see a daughter and her dad dancing, even if it's staged, everything back in the 30's seemed so simply and innocent ;)
little girls dresses usually are because underneath them they have the ruffled panties. Its for very little girls, like 7 and under. Plus that was the style then. But ruffled panties are for showing, thats why the dresses are short, i wore them when i was a little kid, Very cute and innocent. something only little kids can get away with.
She was oustanding in 1934...love you Shirley Temple
