Check the history... you'll find that it IS possible that it was written by a young prostitute. I have this song on an album that's buried somewhere in my collection of 1960's music. This is the Ventures covering House of the Rising Sun. Besides many original instrumental songs of their own creation, they also covered many other groups' songs in instrumental versions and even did covers of theme songs of TV shows - all instrumentals. Unfortunately, their music didn't get much airplay back in the days of AM radio - mostly fillers until news time. They did guitar instruction LP's, too.
