I remember a cheat by passing through the top left of the screen and coming out the bottom right so you only have to 1 or 2 levels before your at the final dungeon. Finished it on hard only by luring the bosses out and then running back and taking the crown piece when he wasn't there. Kinda a cheap way to win I guess but still satisfying. One of the first games I ever finished since back in the day most games didn't end.
I loved this game so much when I was a kid, it was my fav!!! Thank you for posting this!! I remember the sounds so well... I have the intellivision at my mothers... have to get it back and play.
Great game. I still love the dramatic bass tone that plays when you reassemble the throne. As video game endings go, it's terse, but holy hell, does it feel good.
If you guys like D&D then you will definitely looove this webseries called Walking In Cirlces! Its an epic adventure about dragons n stuff! Check it out if you get some time! youtube/wictheseries
Does anyone remember an intellivision game where there was a dragon at the center of a dungeon, it was two player and you had to shoot arrows/spells at the dragon from a distance to defeat it. I KNOW this was an intellivision game but can't figure out what the name was anywhere!
@judebarnes Swords and Serpents, I think it was called. Arthur and Merlin were the characters...Overhead style game, Arthur just had a sword stuck out in front of him you poked enemies with, Merlin cast fireballs and "destroy walls" and such. I think it was an Activision title for the Intellivision, but I don't remember for sure. Saw the dragon at the end but never beat it.
@judebarnes ROFL and I just found out why I never beat it. No one did, the designer admitted there was no way to win the game because he ran out of room on the cartridge. The reward was just finding the dragon and his initials were in the dragon's lair.
I used to remember this as the best game ever made. I dont anymore. Thanks a lot you bastard!!! JK - it actually brings back a lot of memories of my childhood.
Not sure if it works in all versions, but you can sometimes go to the top left part of the screen, and hit diagonal up+left and warp to the bottom right. Not sure if they meant for that to be there but yeah... fun way to beat the game in minutes. *lol*
You can actually see how this game influenced later games. The randomly generated dungeons that reveal themselves as you walk forward is basically Diablo.
I rember playing this game for hours. I found a hack, I am not sure if others know about. If I remember right.... if you go into the upper corner and use the diagonal key a couple times it brings you into the middle of the map and you can bypass a few mountains.
@AegisKleais It's hard for new gamers to believe but the scare factor of the dragon after all the quietness was the thing that did it.I always though of it as a bear.
Awesome game. I wore many an Intellivsion pad out in the day on that game! (And that was way before I even knew what D&D really was.) Anyone else ever discover the corner "warp trick"? Ah... back in those innocent days when I'd gladly use a cheat code, and not feel that it spoiled the game....
Hello. I am going around posting comments on Youtube in reference to Kaillera Client. Haha well I'm not out to prove to the world that I'm some sort of bad ass or anything. But I have been planing a review of the game that I've never got around to. And if I ever get to it, then it will of course have some footage of me beating the purple mountain.
I used to play Treasure of Tarmin all the time when i was little, i still pick it up and play. ANYWAY, I just got this one and i really want to be able to play it but I dont have the manual or overlays... so if anyone could help, that'd be great :P
I remember this as a kid. The neighbors had it, used to watch them play all the time. I couldn't remember the title to save my life. Funny that it turned out to Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Anyway, wasn't there supposed to a dragon in the last mountain? Or were you supposed to avoid it?
I wish they would make this game for wii... I freakin' LOVED IT as a kid. My friend had it and I would go over his house all the time and ask to play it as soon as I got there.
This was one of my favorite intellivision games, I don't think I ever beat it though. I still have all my intellivision games and the intellivision console but you can't even press the buttons on the cheap controllers they had, my thumbs always got red and the those cards you put over the numbers either got lost or ripped apart.
After I beat this game on all skills, I started playing it in "thief mode" where I didn't allow myself to fire any arrows, and just had to outrun all the monsters. It took me about 200 attempts, but I finally beat it that way on the hardest level. Took tons of luck, and sacrificing one life to pick up a boat and another to pick up the first half of the crown. (And getting the second half of the crown before being vaporized.) (You needed to get a lucky board where you didn't need an axe or key.)
@sinistermoon INTELLIVISION DEFINITELY LIVES! Thanks for your funny reply, but it is I who must bow to your superior technical wisdom. While I can whip the purple mountain I have no idea how to record myself playing a video game and post it to YouTube. So, I think you rule.
Hey, fun to see this posted here, but you're playing the easier level. My bet is that you are as scared of the fast-moving hydra as most people are. I've got my original cartridge and Intellivision from when it was first released, but it took becoming an adult to beat the hardest level of this. Couldn't do it as a little kid. Definitely one of the top 10 video games of all times.
Your assumptions are incorrect. I have beat it in every mode several times. My bet, is that you get scared of the slow moving BLOBS! Haha no I'm just kidding. But you should totally make a video of you taking on the purple mountain! I believe in you oh great tulipthehobbit!
Well, if you can look at a game and think it looks gay while admitting that's it hard, then you just might be gay :)
Nah I'm just kidding. You're of course allowed to have an opinion. Doesn't mean you're correct though lol. I think it's an amazing game that you should try.
@wackyluke444 lol yes obviously i know its an old system, and yes i do play call of duty, but i dont know what i said before this comment so i cant really say anything else. haha

@bassage13 same here. You'd hear that dragon breathing and stomping around and it was only a matter of time until he jumped out and ate your ass. Those things were fast and nasty. lol. I'd practically piss myself trying to get away from it. lol
@bassage13 HAHAHA me too :D I didn't even remember this but seeing this video brought it all back. Amazing. It was so damn scary when you couldn't know what you were going to stumble upon.
Intellivision rules! just got my new one off ebay after my dad threw the old system out with over 45 games 10 years back! tut tut it was a crime against humaninty! anyway cant wait to get my hands on this gem. credit for posting, id just like to add i now have all working the intellivision a master system, NES, super NES, N64, PS2, xbox and a broken xbox 360 anybody see the pattern??? they just dont make 'em like they used too!!
GAWD I love this game! Hell Intellevision is the system I still play the most lol (I have Wii that explains that) This game though is so exciting! The anticipation of what's in the dark! Not sure why they'd stamp the D&D label on it, all you get is a bow and arrow. Too simple to be D&D but whatever.
Loved this game! Had an Intellivision -2 with the voice module foe B-17 Bomber, Space Spartans and Bomb-Squad!
You got to admit us gamers of the 80's (not you little goofy pukes that play online for 30 hours) started this movement! If I still had mine intact, I'd hook this up before I'd add a Playstation!!
awesome game, i used to make my dad play it when i was 5 so i could watch. i was too freaked out to play it myself :) how can such a simple game instill so much suspence? when i hear the soft growl of the dragon, somewhere in the blank green of unexplored maze i still feel that same fear of 25 years ago! bravo for uploading!
What an awesome game! I remember playing this as a kid. It would take me ages to finish. It's kinda funny but back then it felt so atmospheric, so scary. First the eerie sounds then creature kinda jumps out at you from around the next corner! Exciting stuff (back in the day) and good memories! Thanks for the vid!
you're so right. The suspense that was built from the animal tracks and sound effects and how the beasts just pop up when you open another pod was kinda scary.
I'm sure those are watching this who didn't grow up in the 80's are laughing at how we were entertained by this but damn, this was about as much action you can pull off on a console back then.
It's easy to mock now, but I remember seeing this running on a c64 in WhSmiths (UK store) circa 1984 and being completely blown away by the graphics and sound. Actually, even now I think the sound design is pretty good. Also I think this was about £35 when this came out. In the 1980s! And people bitch about games prices now..
@DroidLife Actually it doesn't; this was a game on the Intellivision and it utilized the game to the best of its ability. It's one of the first games to use hit points, random dungeons, inventory, specialized monsters and to actually have an ending. It's the first one that did it all in one game to my knowledge.
Holy blast from the past. We had nearly every game as kids (over 50). My little brother really liked this one. It's hard to believe that 1982 was almost 28 years ago.
use to rock the hell out of this game..my dad actually had the intelivision with a bunch of games, but i would hijack it at night..there is a end to this game, with a dragon" i think " when you beat himyou get a crown, when you touch it theirs a long "DOOOONNNN" and the game freezes...RAD
Ah, OK. I knew there was some sort of trade-off. I like the design of this game a lot, I just sorta wish it had a visual arrow indicator :) Even if you had to go into the quiver to count the arrows.
wooooow!! did this bring back memories. I used to come home late at night in high school, then play this till 2am. I used to love the sound of getting the crown.
I still love the sound effects in this . . . the big "whoosh" as you enter each stage, the snake hiss, the dragon growling, the terrible noise when your man gets hit, and the commanding tone when you pick up the last part of the crown and beat the game.
Man, I swear I used to play this on my old Commodore Vic 20 computer in the 80's. It was this game, but it did not come on a floppy disk or cartridge. It was loaded from a cassette tape player!! It must have been a pirated version or something cause I had tons of games on that 1 cassette tape. Weird!
I tried the bliss thing and looked up roms,I tried to download them and my computer says it doesn't recognize the file and has to find something to open it with.I literally don't know how to make this game run.I need someone to hold my hand and guide me through or something.
what do i need to hook my intellivision up? I have the original console and i have a radio shack game RF thing with the 75 ohm input that i got for it. I just ne

Graphics may be terrible, but you'll never experience the era of video games with no boundaries.
Now you've gave jump 'n run, and first person shooter and that's about it. You live in a boring age for video games.

I grew up during this era, I'm 34. If by no boundaries you mean... no plot or compelling storyline... then I guess you are right.
"You live in a boring age for video games. "
You obviously haven't played any of the newer video games, if you can marginalize them like that.

Holy shit! This takes me back!
Loved this game! Had an Intellivision -2 with the voice module foe B-17 Bomber, Space Spartans and Bomb-Squad!
You got to admit us gamers of the 80's (not you little goofy pukes that play online for 30 hours) started this movement! If I still had mine intact, I'd hook this up before I'd add a Playstation!!

awesome game, i used to make my dad play it when i was 5 so i could watch. i was too freaked out to play it myself :) how can such a simple game instill so much suspence? when i hear the soft growl of the dragon, somewhere in the blank green of unexplored maze i still feel that same fear of 25 years ago! bravo for uploading!
bagpoos 2 years ago 3
What an awesome game! I remember playing this as a kid. It would take me ages to finish. It's kinda funny but back then it felt so atmospheric, so scary. First the eerie sounds then creature kinda jumps out at you from around the next corner! Exciting stuff (back in the day) and good memories! Thanks for the vid!
draconis627 2 years ago
you're so right. The suspense that was built from the animal tracks and sound effects and how the beasts just pop up when you open another pod was kinda scary.
I'm sure those are watching this who didn't grow up in the 80's are laughing at how we were entertained by this but damn, this was about as much action you can pull off on a console back then.

Kinda funny this game has more freedom than FFXIII
NoBullet 2 years ago
It's easy to mock now, but I remember seeing this running on a c64 in WhSmiths (UK store) circa 1984 and being completely blown away by the graphics and sound. Actually, even now I think the sound design is pretty good. Also I think this was about £35 when this came out. In the 1980s! And people bitch about games prices now..

Oh, I used to love this game!!! Brings back great memories. Anyone know of anything similar to it nowadays for PS3 or the Wii?
cynthiamonroe 2 years ago

This kinda contradicts the idea that gameplay was better back in the days.
DroidLife 2 years ago
@DroidLife Actually it doesn't; this was a game on the Intellivision and it utilized the game to the best of its ability. It's one of the first games to use hit points, random dungeons, inventory, specialized monsters and to actually have an ending. It's the first one that did it all in one game to my knowledge.

Holy blast from the past. We had nearly every game as kids (over 50). My little brother really liked this one. It's hard to believe that 1982 was almost 28 years ago.

This looks like fun too bad we never owned it. We have most of the other good ones though.

Do the bats not harm you at all?
nutherefurlong 2 years ago
No they do not harm you. But they make noise and that can prevent you from hearing anything that maybe nearby.
sinistermoon 2 years ago
Ah, OK. I knew there was some sort of trade-off. I like the design of this game a lot, I just sorta wish it had a visual arrow indicator :) Even if you had to go into the quiver to count the arrows.

I've always been curious about this game but never got to see it played. Thanks for posting!

I still love the sound effects in this . . . the big "whoosh" as you enter each stage, the snake hiss, the dragon growling, the terrible noise when your man gets hit, and the commanding tone when you pick up the last part of the crown and beat the game.
Loved this as a kid and it's still really cool.

Weird!
