  • OK...so you perform the Wai...and you don't SAY the word "wai." This is where I was confused.

  • This iss soo cool, these videos are awesomee !! I really want to learn thai for personal reasons and this is making it really easy AND fun to do ! :)

  • @thaipod101 no i do not live in thailand just have a thai girlfriend, fan puying kon thai. yes yes, she has taught me alot however she never taught me anything about the different kinds of "wai" thats why i was confused when i saw this video =)

  • Is that your real mustache?

  • @exoxe Hahaha...no no no, that's not her real mustache:) Thank you for your comment anyway!

  • This is actually interesting

  • wow i did not know there were 3 types of "wai". how can this be? i have been doing the wai the same way for monks, elders and same level thai people for 2 years now and i hae never gotten any complaints am i doing it the right way?

  • @nocturnalserpent

Thai people usually won't point that out to you unless you're doing something atrociously wrong because they're too polite to make you "lose face." She doesn't say in the video, but if you want to show even more respect to a monk or if you're performing the wai as part of Buddhist ritual, you could do it from a sitting position, bow all the way forward, and then separate your hands and put your palms on the floor.

  • @dopplerthesexybeast Thank you very much for your the thorough explanation! Please let me add something here, if you are in sitting position, bow forward and put your palms on the floor, that's not a "ไหว้ wâi", it's called "กราบ gràap".

PS. May I ask, have you ever lived in Thailand? You seem to know a lot about Thai:)

  • @ThaiPod101

It's just easier to call it a wai for farang to understand, lol. I actually do live in Thailand. I'm a teacher in Chiayaphum.

  • @ThaiPod101My mother is Thai and she told me what you call "graap" she calls "wai paak" is your way correct?

  • @nocturnalserpent Please don't worry! it doesn't matter as long as you have good intention! And like khun @dopplerthesexybeast said, we will not make any complaints unless you do something very wrong like trying to grasp the yellow robe the monk wearing:)

PS. Do you live in Thailand?

  • Comment removed

  • @nocturnalserpent It is because Thais are polite. And if after two years you have not noticed when, where or especially how, those who have known you for that time, whilst respecting your good intentions, have already forgiven you for your lower intellect. And I am not joking. To complain, criticise your manners, or lack of them, or correct you, especially in front of anyone else, would be beneath their own manners. By the way, the readiness to complain is predominantly Western phenomenon.

  • how can i dl the music at the end, even tho it is not thai at all

  • These vids are vital cause I travel to south east asia once a year

  • @MrSportsFanatic1 So what about this year? Have you traveled to Thailand yet?
