  • i thought it was a pretty decent film. how she finds herself on the other side for once, asking other people to believe in something she cannot prove. that joke stewie made in fg was pretty true though lol.

  • ...Ok, everyone is arguing science vs religion and being all smart and stuff. I was just bored and watched this movie, end of story. So either you just waste time bitching about whateverthefuck to prove who is the smartest (not really an achievement though since this is youtube) or you can watch a pretty good film and be happy. MASTERCHIEF11754 OUT

  • The contact was disappointing, and the supposed "message" that the "aliens" sent was meant only for the main character which is meaningless to the rest of the world.

  • @KingRobbStark The message was for anyone who listened.. and it was custom made for whoever traveled through the machine. It was sent to other civilizations as well.. some replied many did not.

  • family guy brought me here!

  • We need more Carl Sagans in this planet..

  • All Hollywood movies are propaganda meant to do something to your brain and make limiting imprints on the way you see the universe. This actors are sold manipulators who participate in the BIG LIE. This propaganda has been proven over the years to be hostile to humanity, its freedoms, its development. Hollywood creates smog screen covering the truth and real science. Do not get excited. This movie gad its hidden agenda as well. Your excitement results from your stupidity.

  • Aaawesommme

  • I hope this movie is dedicated to those like Nikolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei and Giordano Bruno as well...

  • @suopiskelija Some people are truth seekers as you mentioned, this is true. Then let's seek Truth like Paul of Tarsus. In this movie, contacts=demons.

  • @1Notblack i hope, i haven't misunderstood your way of meaning... however why do you compare this kind of contacts with some demons...?

  • @suopiskelija In The Bible, there's a mention of a "Great Lie or Deception" coming. I don't expect you to take my word for this but rather I would suggest reading or listening to the following: "The Vengeful Djinn" by Guiley & Imbrogno, any of Jacque Vallee's books. None of these are Christians but they are on to something. Checkout Chuck Missler's, he's a Christian, stuff on YOUTUBE. There's more but the list is too long. Good luck.

  • @suopiskelija who r they

  • @lagreify hi, if you mean those three men - i have mentioned - with your question they were pretty famous europen astronomers all from the beginning of the modern times; especially bruno considered plenty of worlds like that one we live on and plenty of civilizations like us in the waste universe as well... however he was burned at the stake by the church for his other faith; galileo galilei was forced to deny his doctrine and sentenced to spend the rest of his life under house arrest...

  • @suopiskelija The Catholic Church doesn't = G.O.D. Christians at the BEGINNING were stoned by the unbelieving faction of Judaism, burned by the Romans, driven out of Greek towns not to mention the great movements of the The French Revolution and Communism did their part as well. You may get off your high horse now.

  • Pravý science fiction film, který mě dokázal uchvátit tou krásnou propracovaností příběhu, takhle nějak by mělo vypadat pravé sci-fi.Jodie Foster si zde zahrála krásnou roli a příběh je natolik dlouhý a zajímavý, že mě dotáhl do konce ;)

  • I'm here because of south park

  • @tajagunn I just saw it now when Mr. GArrison mentioned it.

  • Underrated by who? The Oscar? For sure. When choosing between Forrest Gump and Contact, I guess they thought Forrest is safe. The Oscar is never liberal type.

  • I love this movie so much

  • I'm here because Roger Ebert put this on his Great Movies list.. so I bought it...

  • @hornick18 ME TOO!!!

  • Family guy brought me here :)

  • finished watching this in science, now this is my favourite movie :)

  • @VaiNoGaming same here but its not my favorite movie

  • This was one of the most underappreciated movies of the 1990s. Science versus religion, critical reasoning versus blind faith, and a yearning in the human race to find meaning in it's existence. It's a sad commentary on our society that this movie didn't get the accolades it deserved.

  • @Contakum Science, TRUE religion and faith = TRUTH. One day you WILL see it for yourself. A narrow view of God is YOUR flaw.

  • @1Notblack Believe what you want to believe. I am not saying your wrong for believing in god and I would like the same respect back believing what I believe. Look back at other religions and see that christianity isn't original. They all came from the same source and was a way to control people thousands of years ago. Its stops you from thinking for yourself, always worried, am I doing the right thing. We need to break free from religion, it causes far more problems than it solves. We are one!!

  • @Savtr1 For some it is still a good safety net :/. I just hope people will manage once that net falls apart.

  • @Savtr1 I see you're point. I know where you're coming from too. All I can say is seek the truth. We SHOULD ask ourselves "am I doing the right thing". It's call a conscience.

  • Carl Sagan, JE T AIME! Jodie aussi

  • For Carl

  • Best movie ive ever seen.

  • The frequent cut to black scenes are annoying.

  • Watched this last night. It was a Contact kind of night. Just as good now as 14 years ago. We are just a small speck in the universe.

  • I love this movie. I also loved the book. The movie is better than the book, and the book is better than the movie. I'm not really sure what that means, but it's true.

  • Why haven't i watched this movie?!

  • wow i guess i dont have to watch the movie now.

  • @2138red Trust me, it is worth watching anyways, Contact is that good of a movie. This doesn't even show a fifth of the movie, and what happens after she goes in the pod is amazing...

  • @KellAnderson well then i guess ill take your advice and watch it.

  • In a way, I love the political cynicism, conspiracies, and the ludicrous amount of American jingoism in this heavily flawed movie! It's all about how this first alien contact will affect JUST the United States! The fact that THE REST OF THE WORLD is hearing THE EXACT SAME SIGNAL is barely mentioned at all!

And forget about the possibility that MORE CREDIBLE NATIONS may be building THEIR OWN DEVICES to establish further contact, and CONFIRM the firsthand observations of Dr. Arroway! LOL!

  • @TheCanadianPublic You have overpoliticised a brilliant movie.

Who cares if it revolved around the United States, the core questions this movie explores in spirituality, science, religion and politics make this movie a real underrated gem.

  • @heaintloveu.....i never saw this yet...so, fuck yourself

  • There was a book like the film ! anyone knows what book ?

  • @CroGalla19 The book is called, surprising enough "Contact" and is by my idol Carl Sagan. Just started to read it.

Oh btw, one of the best movies ever.

  • How sucky is it that the alien turns out to be an image of her dead father

  • @heaintloveu yo when you give spoilers write "Spoiler Alert" before you say it so you do not ruin the movie for people who have not seen it. I agree with you their, they should have shown what it is then it changes its perception to her for it to look human.

  • For Carl

  • Is this an alien film?

  • @Gojiraguy95

Maybe yes maybe no, its hard to say much without giving away the plot, its deals with so much more than what the trailer shows. There are some great twists in the movie, if you enjoy sci fi you will enjoy this movie.

  • @Gojiraguy95 there's one alien in the movie but in human body

  • What if God in Himself managed to drive mankind to a real contact with Him (Ellie was a non-believer) and He send a message with instructions to go where He is, but for us He passed for an alien entity, in the firts attempt we would have send a dummy, and for that reason God had a man of faith (The blond religious guy) who was an instrument to allow a real human being to take the trip, so that's why when Ellie comes back she pleads for a big deal of Faith to know what happened in her Experience

  • @noisedownloader in Quran God talks about a possible contact between us and other biengs in other planets

  • @brahim121985brahim

Quran?I seems hard for the so proud arabic culture to see that they are going down, that the significant scientific discoverys are made in the western (christian jewish atheistic)or east asian(buddist-hinduistic-atheistic)cultures.Only by elevating the arab culture by religion will not work it will only make it more hollow.Science is hard work and can not be done by reading always the same old books. The Quran explains nothing else the arabs would be much further.

  • I also agree

  • This trailer gives away too much about this story.

  • @sunnchilde I agree

  • great book, great movie!

  • I want to have sexual contact with jodie foster

  • @folladordeprostis For that you need to be a girl.

  • @spanier24 SHE IS A HOT MILF

  • and then christian blows it up

  • this is good movie but i didn't watch it before

  • Ctfxcinema?

  • Great movie, but its actually different from the book. Thanks for the post.

  • @Tuigwaachan Almost every Novel taken to a Movie undergoes a relative difference in that switching, I haven't read it Contact book for instance, only know that in the novel, they take longer to decript the message. 2010: the year we make contact is pretty rich in the novel than the movie is.

  • I would say the movie (which is based on a book) gives a fairly good representation of what would probably happen if and when we make contact with an alien race; with who would sponsor the project and what conflicts would arise.

  • I kinda off didn't understand the movie. Could someone tell me please?

Was it all fake. Like they say.. a hoax. Or was it real. And was it aliens. .. i mean i got totally lost in some of the parts. Especailly when her dad appears in that alienish planet.

  • Comment removed

  • @gMemo92 she went through wormhole many times and then kind of virtual reality. the person who was talking to her in her dad's form was actually alien but remember she was unconscious too. so they talked in some virtually real place that she drawn drawn in her childhood. conclusively she went to vega to talk to alien in virtual reality.

  • Matthew Mcconaughey , one of the most unlikely scientist movie characters along with Denise Richards as "dr Christmas Jones" in The World is Not Enough.

  • I wish this story become truth.

  • the best movie with Jodie

  • In my opinion, still the BEST "alien/ET" type of movies I've ever watched, even after all these almost 15 years!

Reasons: because it's pretty 'realistic', not exaggerated, or seems like a ridiculous nonsense. and with some very DEEP philosophical & moral 'teachings' and meaningful messages as well, to those who watch!

  • @nikiwonoto you can thank carl sagan for that

  • I got to see this movie, so I know why south park creators hate it. Now I understand.

  • This movie is quite epic and interesting. The first "shocking" signal (Hitler), the aliens were not presented as humans with distorted faces or as green tentacle monsters, and the personal experience of Ellie. It's not about aliens and space-stuff, it is metaphysically, trying to connect little humans' faith with science. Creationism is stupid and pure science isn't answer enough as well. The meeting was real to her, but there is no evidence outside of her mind (except 18hrs door-opening record)

  • Her name is 'Ellie' short for Eleonore...E.L.E......nin????Just thinking...

who knows what's coming our way; it'll most certainly be totally different

from what we're expecting...like in this movie, they think it's a spaceship,

instead, space is a matter of definition. Our three-dimensional idea is

a dead end. It's time for us to make the next step...

  • I love trailers that pretty much spoil the entire film :p

  • I didn't get the overcooked ham' joke could someone elaborate?

  • I love this movie. It makes me dream and wonder...

  • @ficheironegro YESSSS same here

  • @UnbornChild Cool. :D

  • very good movie.Possibly the best sci-fi movie i have ever seen.

  • followed by Stargate & Event Horizon, clearly one of the best sci-fi of all time. unparalleled ever since.

  • my absolute favorite movie ever

  • Well I just started reading the book 2 days ago and I'm blown away. Carl Sagan has set up the main Character so perfectly, I can see why the chose Jodi Foster for this role, she is perfect. The book is fantastic if anyone wants a great read go get it!

    Camelot said he!

  • Best movie Eva!!!

  • Wspaniały film

  • Aaaaaaaawesome movie, they make me believe!

  • i laugh at people that wanted to see aliens in this movie, they totally miss the point, perhaps if you read the book and the demon haunted world you could understand, this movie is about science, accepting the truth.

  • @charliebell01 ugh i know , they are soo uninteligent , its not even worth explaing to them.

  • INCREDIBLE FILM GUYS!!.I recommend it!

  • just when it started to get good, it ended...ahhh guess ill never know

  • the book was amazing

  • @umijenny absolutely! not to mention the awesome parts left out

  • they could have made it awesome only if they showed aliens and their planet and their technology.

  • why watch an hour and a half movie when all you need to know is summed up in 2:28?

  • I dislike trailers. I'd rather not know anything about the movie it ruins it for me. I rarely can watch a movie more than once also unless it's been a long time, it just isn't interesting if I know what's going to happen.

This is one of the worst spoiler trailers I've ever seen btw. Terrible.

    Great Great Movie though. Awesome.

  • This movie resonated with me as teenager because even then I could tell it was based on real possibilities; from the legacy of the great Carl Sagan.

  • I just love jodie she is my favorite actress... Well jodie foster and hillary swank, they tie on number one in my list....{— ~ —}

  • god.....damn....i.....hate......james woods

  • @kruxy404 ooh! piece o' candy! ooh! piece o' candy! ooh! piece o' candy!

  • judy foster she so beautiful !!!

  • When the pulses first come in, it never fails to give me goosebumps.

  • james woods, ooo a piece of candy

  • this movie taught me that religion and science both have a strong foundation in faith, and should be equally respected.

  • me watching this in 2011, i think that, this movie has a better looking trailer than all these shitty new ugly hollywood repetitive stories of new teenagers who can't act...

i'm so down...i can't find a good new hollywood movie to watch GEEz

  • Y dont they just speak english hahaahahha stupid americans :P

  • the movie has a great story, a good performance from jodie. this is one of sci-fi films i really liked. it generates a lot of debate, and movies that do that are worth time and money.

i think they should make its sequel, it would be worth more than the sequels they usually make of films for only commercial purposes, this would be good story-wise too, where they actually find substance to what jodie's character experienced in space.

  • one of the most inspirational movies that i ever seen, no words when i was 9 years old...

  • Gotta love this movie!!!!!

  • one of the very few coherent science fiction films. Loved it!

  • Just Saw this movie... and I really am pumped up so much that I will give up mah career as a software engineer, and go pursue my childhood dream which is Astronomy!!

  • @charlieking100 omg charlie, you are my soul mate lol. exact same life story here.... :) found some summer volunteer programs in nasa , search for it =)

  • trumbs up !

  • This film made me go and stare at my mirror reflection for about 2 hours

  • The part when the first machine was bombed I literally dropped my jaw. I did not see it coming!

  • @chubbypuppyrox

    Me too!

  • because the origins of our creation comes from the heavens, we are their children and they are our parents and our guardians. so we, being their children will not be the ones to find them but they will be the ones to find us and they day is fast approaching. its going to be unreal and amazing...

  • two words. AWESOME MOVIE!

  • Thumbs up if you looked this film up because of Family Guy

  • South Park brought me here... Mr Garrison pukes after hearing the title and says the movie is terrible when he gets a nose reconstruction. :)

  • If you build an involved technology without knowing what it is then that constitutes a scientific folly.

  • BEST FILM I EVER SEE

  • at the end is that her dad or is it one of the people from Vega in the form of her dad? Because at one part he says he missed her but then he says its too make things easier for her

  • @WildlifeRehaber It was an alien. But it was a dream, or she really lost her mind. I mean, they send you schematics to build a space travel machine that costs a fortune, only to tell her she can't have any answers and send her back to earth 1 minute later with no proof whatsoever of their existence?

  • @WildlifeRehaber its the vegans. they say that to make her feel better, then being a scientist she realizes that its all fake and that the vegans are using a familiar enviroment to make her more comfortable.

  • Great movie. Lousy preview though. I bought the DVD at a bargain price. I had never heard of it. But I do love it. The guy that played Hadden was a great actor.

  • Movie a complete classic. Tralier complete tragedy

  • Carl Sagan♥♥

  • @Lepardfang every time a read a book by him or watch cosmos I am in secret agony because he is dead

  • @loosekarrott Yeah me too. That man was a Genius.♥

  • WAY too many black flashes!

  • Was old but Nice graphics

  • 2:11 Looks llike my book!

  • Love this movie !!.. I just watched it again yesterday, and i would never get boredt watching it again.. (Y)

  • I totally bought into this trailer when it originally came out. And I'm glad I did.

  • The trailer starts off well, but the signal playing over everything gives the whole thing a disjointed feel.

  • darfazx

I agree 100%, thanks God I watched the movie before I saw the trailer, the ending is totally wonderful, I'm a Muslim and there's a story of the prophet Mohamed traveling to heaven by night with the company of the angel Gabriel and coming back while he's bed was still warm, the ending of this movie highly resembles this story

  • @TheeYazan100 The problem with this film that they were looking for evidence-let me be directory as its perception-photography 18 hours why the Council did not speak to this manual-something amazing?

  • @RANAS40

    lol wat?

  • @RANAS40 your opinion is pretty interesting but it confuses me its like the play of the words? can you explain me please whats that mean?

  • @RANAS40 What the fuck did that even mean? Did you just think of a bunch of random words and string them together in way that sounded OK to you?

  • @RANAS40 i didn't understand what you said :S idk how you got so many likes xD i doubt anyone understood

  • @RANAS40 wtf?

  • @RANAS40 what the heck are u talking about u nutjob?

  • @RANAS40 what the fuck did you say? i dont understand a shit

  • @Shketri

    YOOO chlll brooo

  • @Shketri same here... grammar fail. His grammar is as bad as my grandfather's - and my grandpa can barely string a sentence together in English without uttering a few bits of Mandarin in there.

  • Amazing movie, but hands down one of the worst trailers ever.

Not only is it extremely poorly edited, but it spoils 99% of the movie, while simultaneously completely missing all of its main points.

  • best scene was when she got in the pod. the long waiting as well as the characters emotions made it very intense. And its a great climax as you are about to find out what the machine does

  • Joe Rogan.

  • Did anyone else find the &#
