From 2:53 when nasa operator says "Much wider strand" there is an object that starts crossing ther screen in a straight line across the bottom 1/4 of the screen from left to right. As it reaches the right it slows down and curves toward the bottom of the screen. Space dust does not do that!!

in every video with the sts-75 footage there are always complete fools saying that its either a microscopic view or its dust. well the footage came from the nasa sts-75 mission which there is a full length video of, so we can rule out that its microscopic... and dust by definition cant be 2 miles in diameter. do a tiny bit of research on the topic before you comment, thinking youre smart.

Google the phrase "Orbital-Debris-Quarterly-News­' and click on the first link. It's a very informative site which illustrates that it IS dangerous to travel in space. It also explains the measures NASA have taken to minimise that danger. To give you an idea, they put a bus sized object in orbit for 5.7 years (LDEF) and when they brought it back to earth, it had taken over 20,000 impacts.

The most obvious one I refer to travels mostly in a line across the field of view, then takes an abrupt turn nearly straight downward in the field of view. Perhaps you can at least offer an idea of what these objects are. We can at least assume they are approximately 100KM away being that at least one traveled in front of the tether, while most behind it. What do you think they are??

Well firstly, it is not safe to assume that all these objects are approximately 100km away. In fact the video demonstrates quite clearly that the disc-like objects are much closer to the camera, by virtue of the fact that they only become disc-like when the camera zooms in on the tether. At this point they are way out of focus, and take on an appearance which is determined by the design of the zoom lens.

The notch positions follow a precise pattern in relation to the position of the objects within the field of view. Also, the barrel distortion of the disc-like objects is clearly a function of their distance from the optical centre. So basically, they are small out of focus particles of ice/debris floating around close to the camera. There is much more to be said, but tbh i've grown tired of it.

All you have there is debris in the foreground that goes out of focus when the telephoto zoomed lens is focused on that tether that is miles away? Looking at it in a negative image doesn't reveal anything new.

Yeah. The tether goes out of focus when the debris in the near foreground goes in focus, and vice versa. THey zoom in and that narrows the depth of field. Focusing on the tether throws the debris out of focus, and the brightness of the sunlit tether overpowers the imaging chip of the camera and makes those fringing "shadow-like" video artifacts, creating the illusion that the fuzzed-out debris is behind the tether.

When an object is optimally focussed, the photon density for a given point on the photocathode is at a maximum. Any given point on the photocathode can only handle so many photons before they start to spill over into the surrounding area. So as an object becomes better focussed, there's an increasing tendency for it to saturate the photocathode, causing it to bloom and appear larger than when it was out of focus.

IMO the 'behind/in front of the tether' issue is more to do with focus than intensity. In focus objects can be seen passing in front of the tether, but can we say the same for out of focus objects? If the answer is no, then the fact that in focus objects do pass in front of the tether cannot be used to validate the theory that out of focus objects actually go behind it. It merely implies that out of focus objects 'appear' to go behind the tether.
