  • i love your vids :)

  • Being that I'm striving to be the change that I wish to see in the world I find drinking fruit and vegetable smoothies inappropriate at times when you consider that people who are looking from a distance may not know what it is that I am drinking so they may mistake my health drink for a soda or juice and that is not what I promote.I have nothing to hide so I -from time to time-would prefere to eat my fruits and veggies as is in public.Let kids see the actual fruit, not some concoction in a cup.

  • I love your hair color here. It looks so natural!

  • Oh wow! I LOVE this smoothie. Funny thing is that I deliberately put your video in the 'watch later' playlist because I was afraid to try this- I hate beets. Anyways, this morning I decided I WILL do this whether I liked it or not and liked it I did! This is going in my staple rotation!! It is just delicious. This is just what I have been looking for. Something more foody with just the right hint of sweetness! Thank you so much for sharing this!

And yes, I absolutely LOVE the hot pink color!

  • You need your own show on the cooking channel. America needs more of this and less of Paula Deen's butter-loaded concoctions

  • your frig is awesome

  • I want to go live at her house.

  • I'm in Utah. Where do you get the coconuts?

  • Where can I find your recipes with the full measurements? I went on your site and couldn't find them. I was looking for this one in particular. Thanks so much!

  • Can I use just a ordinary coconut?

  • Hi! I've just come across your videos and I have a question I haven't found the answer to yet. I'm allergic to the strawberry family - so strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries - so I wouldn't be able to add them. Is there something, some other fruit or green that could replace the benefits I will lose????

  • Is cocnut oil an okay replacement?

  • it drives me crazy how she blinks so slowly

  • I am sure this tastes great, but it is really high in sugar. Beets, carrots and other fruit together are all high in sugar. I would be careful with this if I had blood sugar problems.

  • Wow,I just made one and it's really delicious!! My beets were yellow, and I changed a few items based on what I had, but I added raspberries so it's still slightly pink.

I made mine with 1/3 c. light coconut milk (no thai coconut on hand), 1/2 large yellow beet, 2 small carrots, handful of spinach, vanilla extract, 2 large pitted dates, 1/4 c. raw almonds, about 1/2 c. raspberries, and a little bit of extra water.

It's really good, I could have one of these every day!!

  • @U2girl

that sounds good! i plan on making this when i get my Vitamix. i'd have to go far out of my way to find a Thai coconut, so i'll probably end up using light coconut milk and water in mine. i plan on throwing a few greens in there too.

  • did you say cashews? I thought those are bad for you, especially if you're trying to lose weight?

  • That does sound good

  • THAT DOES SOUND GOOD. I live in Thailand and what i like to do with the coconuts is with a large heavy knife wake the coconut a couple time in a small 2 inch circle at the top and drain in to zip lock bag and scope out the inner skin and freeze.. great for smoothies and saves space..

  • Hello, I have the blendtec. I've followed the recipe exactly. I can't believe how much I enjoy it. I HATE Beets. Always have. But now I'm drinking it. My wife loves it too. My question is this. I sometimes get frustrated when I find that I'm out of coconut, or one of the ingredients. So do you have substitutions for each one? Let's be honest, your fridge is amazing, wish I could fit it in this house, but we can't haha, so I don't have tons of rooms for coconut. Your thoughts?

  • I made this smoothie but i did not peel the beet and threw it in with the greens still on it,I don't know what I did but it was horrible,I may try again when I can forget that taste.....YUK!

  • looks really good! i'll have to try that thanks! : )

  • is todd your teenage son?

  • Sorry, meant to say it started as numbness, then progressed to pain. Now it's not hurting so much, but my thigh is tight and sometimes sore. Eliminating processed junk immediately improved the pain. The doc told me I was flirting with diabetes, and I made drastic changes. I think the nerve pain might have been the beginning of diabetic neuropathy. I think I found you just in time before I could have really screwed up my health.

  • OMG, a personal message to me from GSG!!!

You have quickly become a hero of mine! I watch your videos all the time for inspiration. You are a GREAT host. I love your delivery--you should get your own raw/vegetarian show on Food TV or something. I am feeling so great except I can't get rid of this pain and soreness in my thigh. It started numbness, but it is slowly getting better. I think it might be something called Meralgia (a pinched nerve). Losing weight is supposed to alleviate it.

  • This made my day!

Be patient with those cleansing reactions. They're evidence of your body "cleaning house" and those reactions usually don't last longer than 2 wks. My research indicates that gas is one of the top 3 most common cleansing reactions. Hang in there--your body, mind, and spirit will love you!

  • GSG, you have changed my life! I feel SO MUCH BETTER and have lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks from having a green smoothie for breakfast and dinner every night in place of a regular "meat" meal. I have cut out coke completely. This is even making the neuropathy in my thigh disappear. My BlendTec has been ordered and should arrive in 2 days. I am so excited!!!!! I am cramming so many greens into my smoothies! I just wish I could get past the bloated feeling they sometimes give me.

  • IT IS HOT PINK! I really enjoy the flavor of coconut in the back ground of this smoothie. I used a vitamix. I found that the fiber from the carrot got in the way of SMOOTH in smoothie, so I will use carrot juice next time. Also, I used coconut butter, but I think your coconut water lightens this up. Lastly, I only had an 8 ounce glass and I am full. This means something, because I am a GREEDY girl. LOL!!!

    Thank you for sharing this.

  • You're welcome. If you don't use coconut liquid--and use something like coconut milk or butter instead--you're making a MUCH higher-fat breakfast, just FYI. That'll be fine for some people but not for those wanting to lose weight.

The whole recipe makes almost a quart and is 400 calories, with an ideal protein/carb/fat ratio of about 10/80/10.

  • @GreenSmoothieGirl

Good for those on Doug Graham's 80/10/10 diet then too.

  • @shestudios I love the carrot fibre texture. It makes it feel more foody, like you are eating something more sustaining.

  • See they removed the husks for your protection! We should be lucky if all they treat the Young coconuts with is Formaldehyde! Americans don't like browning coconut husks bleached white everything at our peril us searching raw foods and healthy choices read, research and more questions! To many preservatives let food rot when it's supposed to shop less and use less. And why do Americans need a tropical food that leaves a nasty carbon footprint. Don't be a sheeple crowd even in the raw food realm!

  • I think your intentions are good, but your should be more clear! It took me forever to decipher what you were saying, and it was good information.

I'm just starting on the Raw food path, and I had no idea that Thai coconuts were that bad! Thanks for the heads up.

  • Oh, sorry yes this is one thing that makes me crazy. Because I used to love these things. I made a comment around seven months ago and one of these posts was meant as a reply. Anyway if you look on the seconde page of comments that's where I origionally started rant/freaking out over coconuts.

  • Be aware of the shelved or refrigerated plastic lined boxes of milk and fruit juices (even coconut) anything grease proof wrapping (butter, pizza boxes) processed foods (coconut water) included come in does contains BPA even the Sigg bottles BUSTED! go to Organic Consumers dot organization and search BPA in plastic liners. You can buy organic young coconuts from The Raw Guru website Rawsome!

  • Young coconut water is also available in cans and boxes au natural...no preservatives.

  • are you vegetarian?^^

  • I love your videos! If I could afford a bendtec, I would make that every day!

  • Is that blender available in the UK?

  • I drink beet and carrot juice for breakfast. I might try this!

  • Young Thai Coconuts are treated/dipped w/formaldehyde and wrapped in plastic to keep husks from browning on their over four week trip to the states by container. You should wash hands and not let the water come in contact with outer shell and plastic. YUK!

  • Smart! :D

  • Is this true?? OMG!!!

  • what do u have for lunch? smoothie?

  • Mmmm, sounds awesome!

  • For people with lots of experience with drinking green (or pink, or what have you) smoothies, how does it help - or not - your cognitive skills and psychological state?

  • Eating plant foods has been linked to improved cognitive function. You've probably noticed that your thinking processes slow with lots of meat and processed food, right? You have clarity of thought, the more raw plant food you eat.

  • Not only does this look and sound tasty and nutrtious but also it seems to be a fairly fun and creative process, like making a magic potion.

  • hah, i thought you said beef not beet and i was like wtf?! you get raw beef out of your garden...hahaah lol

  • do you need ice cream to make smoothies?

    please respond

  • Nope ;)

  • oh that is for milkshakes. unless your having some weird half milkshake have smoothie thing. good idea!! ill have vanilla ice cream, strawberries, a banana and milk. a strawberry banana dairy type thing!

  • definitely not!

  • what?

    are you kidding?

  • @ANDREWRecipesNo ice cream is needed to make smoothies, ice cream is just needed to make milk shakes. :):)

  • how did you freeze the beet? i tried freezing veggies before but they got freezer burn and were inedible.

  • If you leave veggies too long in the freezer and then steam them, yes, freezer burn. But this is just a frozen, PEELED chunk of beet that I grab out of the freezer every morning and throw into the smoothie. It tastes just fine.

  • thanks for the tip! i'm learning how to cook this year and smoothies have been an amazing nutritious and yummy find. i will try out your recipes in the future :)

  • I know it's been a while since you posted this, but the saturated fat found in raw veggies is not the same as the saturated fat found in cooked items. Our bodies process it better and they might even lower cholesterol. At least, that's what I've read from several sources.

  • I just had an idea for you GSG ( not that you need my advice or help).

What if you had a list of foods but dedicate them to

    -HOW LONG THEY SHOULD LAST

    and

    -HOW TO STORE THEM

I just thought about this because, well, as you know things re best kept fresh, but how fresh is fresh 3 days later and how would I know to store my greens and things.

I say this because when I buy salad stuff it goese bad on me in like a day or two. Is this normal?

  • how is the name hot pink coming in this recipi?

  • Not sure I understand the question, but it's hot pink because of beets and strawberries.

  • oh i get it!nice videos by the way

  • I just tried this and its really good! Thanks!

  • WOW... this is good! I was surprised, especially when my 4 year old son liked it! Can you make this with traditional coconut juice? I bought both kinds and was surprised how different they are.

  • Regular coconuts are just OLDER--so they're likely to have less liquid in them (hardly any, usually). But yes, you can use it. Or you can buy "coconut liquid" or "water" in a can. If you use coconut MILK from a can, it's high in fat. It's GOOD fat, and I'd make that for a 4-yr. old. But I wouldn't make it for myself like that, though I've had people tell me it tastes like "Jello and Cool Whip" made with coconut milk.

  • i bet it tastes good, but too much sugar and not enough protein for me

  • If you want more protein, you can add 1-2 Tbsp. hemp protein powder to this smoothie. Read my Myth 1, Part 1 and 2, on my site. People think they need more protein than they really do. Also, there's no sugar but the natural ones, with LOTS of fiber to slow down absorption into the bloodstream. I'm hypoglycemic and this causes me no problems.

  • I loved this and your other video. With what I see most people (myself included) feeding themselves and their kids, it's good to see someone who cares so much about nutrition. I can't wait to see that chocolate pudding! :-)

  • Love the name of that smoothie, looks delish! THX for sharing!
