come on guys OHC and DOHC = NO LIFTERS.....it has rocker assemblies...and yes they could be dirty, worn out, or need adjustment...but no lifters...might even be the balance shaft...there are kits to eliminate them completely in turn adding 15-25 hp...good luck
I know this is an old video...but if I'm remembering correctly these motors don't have the cams directly over the valves right? The cams kick some rockers over I thought.
naw it doesnt sound like lifters to me sound like a bent or crack valve to me try to do a compression test i have the same noise on my 4g63 but it only comes every now and then tho
Thats lifter tick and/or a valve that might be sticking. Before your next oil change add a quart of ATF +4 to the oil. It is highly detergent. Run it for about 30 minutes then proceed with the oil change. Its amazing as to how much better it will be after the "cleaning". Post up a comparison video so everyone can see. =) Goodluck!
hey bubba1887 you are trying to tell are dsm'er that are cars dont have lifters well ok then... what are the 16 things in the head that every one calls lifters? i just had 3g lifters put in my eclipse so if you dont know what you are talking about plz dont talk
bubba it was really the lifters. After I had it replaced with the new ones. Ahhh... sweet silence. I thought it was a valve hitting a piston but it wasn't. Most likely though, if it sounds like this, you had a spun bearing or bent pistons or worst luckily mine wasn't and up till now, I still don't hear anything with my 4g63 (t28,650cc,fmic,bov,mbc,safc2)
@bubba1887 hehe it bugs me too when people call them lifters, but that's what the companys that sell them call them, what can you do? They are called lash adjusters. Lifters (tappets) are the part that does the same thing in a push rod non OHC engine. They go between the push rod and the cam, lash adjusters sit between the rocker arm and the valve.
Did you have a major loss in compression when this was occurring?

I get some of the ticking sound on a cold start sometimes, but thankfully mine goes away after a minute though.

@nunezhit Just get some new revised lifters pretty much anywhere. Its pretty much pluck and chuck replacement. just be sure to bleed your new ones.

It's lifter tick. comes and goes. It's on my 4G64 and boy, it's bothering me since the last 4 years...grin

stupid question, does lifter tick indicate/foreshadow any signs of crankwalk occurring?

I have the same problem you did how much would it cost to fix it
donnelld79 2 years ago
that's not a rod bearing. It's lifters or what some call valve lash adjusters. lol
I had a rod bearing go on my Talon tsi awd and that was not the noise.
