If you pour the sea foam in a cup then suck it out of the cup you wont have to spill the shit everywhere. Nice "how to" though, very helpful. People dont know it, but it will help your car pass ca smog if it is reading high in carbon emissions. I was wondering the best way to use it on my wifes 99 exploder and thank you very much, nice vid.
@ErikGMC Thanks a ton! This explorer had enough suction to were it didnt spill but ive had that problem before with other vehicles. Thanks for the tip!
@djclue1987 I have done this to several vehicles and not had that problem. I believe the trick is to keep the RPMs up a bit when running the vehicle afterwords.
Some people have reported fouled plugs. I just usually seafoam my vehicle before I change my plugs so I dont have to worry about it.
hey man thanks for the video it was very helpful. i doing the 1/3 in oil, vac and gas technique on my 99 eddie bauer w/ 192,000 miles. ive waited until i needed to change my oil to use seafoam because i didnt really want it to remain in there. it may not be bad but since it also may not be good... better safe then sorry. i dont want it to get rid of too much good carbon buildup and possibly cause any leaks. im subscibing good info and great vids!!
I personally wouldnt use this in my oil especially not as long as the video quotes! 75 miles tops & change the oil IMO. Far too strong and could rot already worn gaskets and seals in high mileage vehicles and it thins and pollutes your oil as it cleans, Id rather put a half quart or so of ATF fluid in the oil 100-200mi prior to oil change is sufficient.
@wigsplittin26 It made a believer outta' me... I just used it on a $ 750.00 Beater that I wouldnt take no-less than $2,500 for now . Yes, it made a WORLD of a change in Performance and Fuel Consumption too .
@tcc187620 I'm a believer too! love this stuff and recommend it to friends often. I clean out the throttlebody also at my seafoaming intervals, makes a big difference.
@jlsparky7 Thanks for one of the better seafoam vids. My comment was rather biased as I have used mobil 1 since new and change it every 4-5k miles so sludge build-up is almost non-existant in my case. I do get a lil queasy at the thought of running seafoam in oil for long as it thins viscosity above all. I also run seafoam thru my pcv hose as in my case it's right behind my throttle body and atomizes better to all cylinders instead of the cylinders closest to the booster line.
@wigsplittin26 There probably minimal if any reason for you to run seafoam in your oil if you've been using mobil 1. Great oil without a doubt. This vehicle however had "Store brand" oil used in it multiple times. Clearing out all the waxy buildup definitely helped.
The PCV valve on this vehicle is pretty difficult to get to but if I seafoam it again ill definitely use it instead. Brake booster definitely makes for an easier video because the brake booster line is universal for vehicles.
@jlsparky7 Speaking of cheap oils, Search around for vids of oil filter cut out comparisons. I will never touch a Fram, STP, or God forbid a Wal-Mart brand oil filter and I hope anyone reading this wont either! (Motorcraft scored well) But as for the booster line, I agree it's best for demo purposes. People with limited underhood knowledge can be easily confused. As for my rubber PCV hose, I disconnect it at the intake instead of the valve cover, so adding seafoam is done right at the top :)
@wigsplittin26 Ive seen those filter chops before and the results are pretty astonishing. I stick with wix or amsoil. If not then I go with Motorcraft. I may do a vid with the seafoam spray in the intake to simplify it for people a little more.
@RicerEater1978 When I seafoam, I use 2 cans. One full can in the fuel tank with a full tank of gasoline to clean the injectors. then half in the oil to clean oil deposits in the lifters, valve stems, and oil galleys, and the other half in the brake booster line to clean the upper intake runners and combustion chambers.
@specialross77 i did the exact some thing, mines got a carb though. opened it up and poured it down. noticed a pretty good difference. for some reason it clogged up my jets though. we had to clean out the secondary circuit after
@RicerEater1978 Huh, wonder if the seafoam disloged something upstream in your fuel system? Could be.
When I seafoamed my 96 f150, it seamed to idle smoother and my check engine light that has been on for 5 years went off, but only for about a week.
I seafoamed one of my customers cars for a rough idle at startup with cold engine concern. GM had a TSB about low tear gas causing valve stems to stick momentarily on startup. Seems to be working so far but we wiil see.
@specialross77 For a Block "Sludged" Yep...good idea there : ) Just remember to drop the Pan n clean it,replace pick up filter and pan gasket and youre all set to d@mn-near Factory Specs. ImO of course... Tokie
@youdragon Yep, and all Varnish Deposits if you Spray the stuff into the Throttle Body / Carb. it's amazing what it does for "heavy Sludge" if a whole can is used in the Oil. The used Oil(after 100 miles) was as thin as my Mom's Coffee, all viscosity seemed gone, wasnt even "thick feeling"to the touch...and ALL the SlUdGe was totally gone from inside the Valve covers. I dropped the Oil pan, cleaned it,replaced the Filter Pick-up,pan gasket, and it runs like new !
BTW you want to wait at least 15 minutes or it won't work right. 20 minutes is a good number. Earlier than 15mins and it won't smoke out the gunk. I would also recommend not putting it in the oil for more than 5-10 miles. People will start chucking it into their oil and forget, and rear main seal, etc, can wear as result
Thank you, I saw seafoam one day in a gas station and decided to try this. I drive a F-150 and the brake booster line and the oil cap is on the same sides as yours!
Havnt really driven it since I did the seafoam. Been modding it non stop since then. In my other vehicles it has helped with inconsistent idles and eliminates hesitation in accelration.
i have a 96 explorer with 216k miles. do you think seafoam will help? i have changed the plugs plug wires and used engine restore in it before but i think it could run better than it does
There is no doubt in my mind that seafoam will help your engine last longer and perform better. Definitely worth a shot. Come back and let me know how it goes for you.
i just did this today in my jeep i put 1/2 in the gas tank and 1/2 directily in the intake i allready noticed better throttle responce. Im thinking of doing it again in a week or so just to make sure i got all the carbon out.
mystery oil, engine restore, Lucas oil stablelizer. techron for gas.
my car runs good, I drove it from Utah , Idaho, montana, wyoming, nebraska, colorado, california, then to NC and back to CA and back to NC, and still running good.
Marvel is carried by Wal Mart. and tons of auto parts stores. google it! My older brother subed a gallon of it for engine oil in an old Peterbuilt once. After 500miles the oil pressure was low. he checked the oil filter.. it was packed with carbon!!! 5k later he tore down the engine to put in bearings pistons slid right out - no carbon ring in the cylinder! almost none in the crank! That old Cummins had many many miles on it too!
This is cool. for cleaning out the goo and gunk..but............... I just run Marvel Mystery oil in my crank (sub 1 quart of reg oil) and a few ounces in the gas tank every now and then.. and I never get carbon build up! :)
Just curious, how many miles were on that vehicle when you ran the seafoam through? I heard that although seafoam does do wonders, sometimes if you have an excessive amount of buildup it can free up gunk in your engine and clog important oil passageways. What's your thought on this? My truck has like 86,000, seafoam or no?
I have heard of a stories of people having seafoam clog oil passages but that was because they were using dino oil and hardly ever changed it. There passages would have been clogged eventually just from the oil, the seafoam just knocked the carbon loose sooner.
I have done seafoam on a number of vehicles anywhere from 20,000 miles to 200,000 miles and NEVER had a bad experience.
Doing seafoam on a regular basis will be very beneficial to your vehicle.
i have a 96 with 215,000 miles it runs good but i think it could run better. do you think i should try seafoam or do you recomend anything else for my truck since it has so many miles
All depends on the vehicle. The neon that I worked on in my other videos I used seafoam on. It had a long enough brake booster hose that I could stand upright outside the vehicle and pour the seafoam in. It was nice, lol.
there is no benifit to using this in the oil.

Best way to do this I found is to keep the engine rpms at 2000 while adding seafoam or any other upper induction cleaner.

Do you have to worry about fouling up fuel filters, oil/fuel pumps or spark plugs with the debris that it might stir up when it "cleans everything"?

I do think seafoam will help heres a few other things you may want to try.
Spark plugs
Sparky plug wires
Cleaning the IAC and MAF (see my other vids)
Those things should make it feel like a new vehicle.
do the seafoam 2 or 3 times before you put the new plugs in to make sure you have all the carbon buildup out.
jlsparky7 2 years ago
I would do sea foam just to see what people say when I drive down the street smoking.
MooseBaker 2 years ago
That would be funny. You would have to pick a busy area or main street around you to do it too.

Yeah, I have one that has a whole lot of carbon build up so I should use that. It also has a burnt valve...
That's my 73 Chevy.

jlsparky7 2 years ago
The stupid thing is is that I don't have a break booster. do you know if you can do it threw the pcv valve line.
