  • can you help me i want to catch cylinders instead of the balls dimension of cylinder is h=100 mm and base=60mm and there are 3 different types of cylinder(i.e blue,red and white). My objective is to catch the nearest cylinder if it catches the red or blue cylinder then it will carry it to a different place but if it would find the white cylinder then leave it to a different place,so is it possible to sense 3 colours at a time and the ultrasonic sensor should be at a >5cm and <10cm

  • i'll make this robot and modify the sounds so when it catches the blue ball it plays the error sound from zelda oot and when it catches the red ball it plays the fanfare sound also from zelda oot :3

  • @bailywojtek: Light sensor. The standard light sensor gets very different readings from red vs. blue because the illumination LED is red.

    ...i have just building this model "ball hunter" and...when i save the program and try to open in my LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT v1.1, this cannot open it...other projects like "mini golf" does work perfectly...any tip?...Thanks and wavings from Spain!!

  • Thank you,you made me laugh as i did not for a long time ago :D I built it,got the balls (no pun intended) and let it run.For some weird reason it took more time,it just spinned all over and over (maybe messed up sonic sensor) and then my cat got in the way of it.You know what happened,it started to chase her and tried to get it :D

  • It does a 360 turn looking for the closest object with the ultrasonic sensor, then turns back to point at and drive straight in that direction.

  • It will try to approach and grab the closest object it sees, but of course the mechanical grabber will only succeed in actually grabbing something of about the right size.

  • can u show me your NXT-g program? I once tried to ues US to detect a ball(it was a golf ball so much smaller than the one shown here) but failed.

    My thread was like this : turn around and stop when the US detects something within a certain distance then go straight ahead... however, the US seemed couldn't see it and missed the ball every time I tested it.

    Your US also missed the ball but later turned back. How did you make that?

  • The program is available for free download on the nxtprograms web site. Balls are hard for the US sensor to see because they are round and don't reflect sound well. You have to get the height and distance just right.

    My program didn't actually miss the ball, it always does a full 360 degree turn looking for the closest object, then turns back to head for that. Your idea is simpler to start with, so try that, and with something bigger (like a box) and get that working first.
