How would we deal with all the wars between the defense agencies. I'm really curious about your opinion on that, because I felt you beat around the bush while answering that question. You aren't giving a definite answer.
Xomniverse, I would suggest a book called "How Capitalism Saved America" by Thomas J. DiLorenzo if you haven't read it already. It's has a very interesting historical perspective of the US' economy. It shows examples in US history of laws and regulations and how they have effected the economy.
What is your take on history? What I mean by this is the current distribution of wealth is obviously not just, by your standards? So, if tommorrow we were to convert to Market Anarchy how would we deal with the issue of previous injustices creating the reality. Do you propose and sort of Nozickian measure of a one time redistribution in order to deal with the violation of rights throughout history?
The natives didn't have a state - they're not doing so well these day's. Each tribe did have their private police force - and they warred with each other. When a forign force attacked - there was no coordinated strategy to deal with them. It is the same all around the world - tribes conquered by bigger tribes called states. Same idea.
I didn't say tribal societies are anarchies. I was making that point that when you have many small units (individuals or tribes or private police companies) they tend to war with each other and are pretty much sitting targets for those bigger and better organized forces. Denial and rationalization does not lead to freedom. Government is what we invented when market anarchy didn't work. Moving on.
Nonsense. Market anarchy has not been tried yet. You are using false definitions. Government is what happens when a band of thugs, over years of repeated offenses and syndicate-baiting, convinces their victims that they're necessary. Furthermore, your thesis is proven wrong with competition in food and others servicces all the time. Alchohol companies do not wage war with eachother, they try to come up with a better product then eachother.
Congrats bud; another test. This time I was testing your "true knowledge" - if a theory works in your head, on paper, and in iceland; then it is a fact. People who argue are ignorant heathen trolls. Reason wins again. Halleluiah.
I know where you are coming from with "If people are not fit to rule themselves, then they are certainly not fit to rule each other". My question is, do you think it is a possible that a gradual change to anarchism in America could lead to a transitional period where more peoples' liberties are more infringed upon, then they are with the current statist system of America?
This is probably a really stupid question (I just woke up), so I don't really expect it to be answered. Anyway, what's to stop the top companies in a certain business, gaining control of a resource, from coming together to form a monopoly, weeding out competition; or if other companies want to grow, they simply merge with them, kind of analogous to the formation of unions? I apologize if this makes no sense.
With no government, a monopoly will always be undercut, even if it happens from within or "internationally" (relation of anarchy to the nation concept notwithstanding).
If you don't want monopolies because they are bad... You certainly don't want a monopoly of law enforcement and specially if they are legally granted by themself to use violence upon the people.
Only one thing can control greedy people and that is competition by equally greedy people. Competing over customers are the best control over greed that exist in humanity.
Right, but I'm saying that this greed you speak of might incite them to merge together for the utilitarian purpose of making more money for all. What's to stop that from happening? I mean I guess I could come up with some ways to tackle that, but what you said didn't address my question. (Btw, the more I read into anarchism, the more I agree; I'm just trying to learn more about it). ty
If you put an artificial high price as part of a cartel because everyone is greedy there will be someone who will undercut his partners. Or someone else not in the cartel will see his chance to take a huge chunk of the customers available and satisfy his greed and than the competition is on again. Greed always makes the customer happier as he gets what he wants as choice after choice of service is presented to be selected from.
great points, I agree

The more disgusted I get the more I wanna agree with you... If only it didn't smell so much like idealism

Is there some reason not to try to get as close to the ideal scenario as possible?

Not that I can imagine.
Course, if Anarchy IS one's ideal scenario...well. You'll find me there.

Arbitration is cheaper, and a business is out to make money.
It really is that simple.

Well, for dead people it's easy; since they are dead, restitution is impossible anyway.
For living people, if they can prove that the property is rightly their property, it should be returned.

No, not same idea. Tribal societies are not anarchies. Tribes are localized monarchies. Using tribal societies as examples of anarchy is a fallacy.

Congrats bud; I'm a fellow market anarchist - I was just testing your faith. Good work man.

Nobody should have faith in market anarchy, or anything else. Reason is the only means for acquiring real knowledge.
