The point of going green isn't to unfuck ourselves. It's an effort of trying change the Earth's natural cycles closer to back to where they would be without of the harm we caused. Just because some people are trying to make money off it doesn't make it a bad idea.

In no way if we are fucked that makes an excuse for us to fuck ourselves more. It's like a cancer patient drinking himself away because he has cancer. That's apathetic and pathetic.

@DanLightning I don't think he means that we should rape the earth because we have dominion over it. I'd like to think that we have a mutualistic relationship with the Earth.. I believe he's saying that it's too late to reverse the effects, so there's no need to fuss and fume about what we have done to speed up the process.

@nostradamusdude I just don't get that at all from what he's saying. "Do whatever you want" is definitely not someone whose life embodies any concept of a 'mutualistic relationship' with the earth. Most people have reservations with certain actions for reasons of personal preservation. Part of 'going green' is protecting things like natural resources and food, but if people did whatever they wanted, those things would be raped in no time at all. We need to fuss and fume; it's important.

There is evidence of a greenhouse effect caused by certain gases, including carbon dioxide and water, and there is evidence that human activity has caused greater concentrations of these gases, therefore there is evidence that we are causing some warming. Whether it is all due to us of it is up for debate. However, in science the term theory doesn't mean hypothesis, a theory is backed by tons of evidence. There's nothing more sure than a theory in terms of proof. So it's not "just" a theory.

@johnbat that makes it a theory, not a myth. santa clause is a myth, a theory is something that has supportive evidence but hasn't been proven yet. just because the earth goes through cycles doesn't mean that we aren't speeding the cycle up, and even if we aren't speeding it up that doesn't mean we aren't destroying our planet. we are polluting our air and water and killing off many species including 1/3 of the species of frog, an indicator species. people think global warming is the only issue.

The planets go through cycles in the solar system depending on distance from the sun, these include what's happening now and the ICE AGES. We can't stop it... Global warming is a huge business, contrived, dreamt up, fabricated. Another way to take your money and sell you back your garbage you personally sorted through for them. Every scientific consensus regarding climate phases, period and duration are only estimates and even then they're anywhere in the region of 5000 or more years either side. We haven't even begun to have an accurate picture about the correct history of our planet, past civilizations or dates that aren't still being corrected so what 'schedule' are you looking at?

@Waxthumper would you not agree that history tends to repeat itself? well it has been for the past 13 billion years and we are looking at a time right now of cooling, it would be a shock to scientists to learn that the planet will go through two warming patterns in a row without seeing a cooling era in between. its so easy to say that its just the government making money, but if you look at the actual data, it is proven that there is an erratic amount of carbon in the atmosphere.

Current academic consensus regarding the origins of human civilization as well as the earths history are wildly inaccurate and still debated. The Piri Reis map shows northern coast of Antarctica perfectly detailed 300 years before it was discovered.Last time it could have been charted in an ice free state was 4000BC.. climate scientists say it's 1 million years old.

There are still doubts about the beginning of this ice-free period, which has been put forward by different researchers as everything between year 13000 and 9000 BC. The Piri Reis map shows that the northern part of that continent has been mapped before the ice covered it... So if you go by climate scientists, some civilistaion mapped it 1 million years ago???

@dagnut Well, you are correct. We have no PROOF that global warming is caused by humans. It is, after all just a theory. You make a valid point, who are we to predict the cycles of the Earth? This could very well just be natural. However, I think about how humans are affecting other animals on the Earth, and how much oil and coal we burn up, and I just come to the conclusion that climate change is caused by man. We both have our thought-out opinions. So I guess we can just agree to disagree.
