@rheale there is a gap for snow to melt under the panels. When you do not want to see the solar panels this is the solution. you can also put a ice melting wire at the bottom of the panels on the roof to remove ice or snow faster. Its not ideal but its a way to get off of oil. Plus with global warming, he did not get any snow yet.
