I saw this show the night they weren't filming. I made a poor bootleg - but this was my favorite song from the show. I remember Pete came out to the lobby and everyone, who wanted to, got a turn to say hello and thanks.
Though Pete's voice flags a little and the overall effect of the arrangment is rather ethereal (miss Keith's thundering drums!), I still like this rendition on many levels.
Townsend wrote a song that he intended the public to hear and as a member of the music listening audience I have every fucking right to post or express what I think about his fucked up song to a hairy, non producing, non laboring bum like M Baba.
Ethereal song but it should be about love for someone else, I don't care what Pete Townsend says, it can not be about 'finding yourself' as per an Eastern mystic navel gazing unwashed doosh.Cannot be.
@hillbby I think what you want to hear is "you're right". Unfortunately, the evidence has me thinking that it is absolutely a tribute to finding oneself. Pete talks at length about this song. Additionally, the cover of his FIRST solo album was a photo of Mehar Baba's face.
@bapyou Pete is the lead guitarist. Before he started this song at the show he explained that he would play along with his original lead recording, he then switched on the recording (taken from the original album track) and counted himself in.
@bapyou Take your point about bad direction. they should have left Pete's explanation in the film especially as it is key to the feel and historical importance of this track.
hey dude, awesome video.. but can you post the video from that concert of The Song is Over, please.. it's my favorite song of all time, and i've never seen it being performed..
Townsend kinda reminds me of Robbie Robertson. They're both the guitarist and main songwriter for their respective bands, but because they don't sing they go somewhat unnoticed.
Pete could never be considered as the quite guy in the corner who plays guitar and writes the songs - The Who Is Pete Townshend and The Who was the viehicle that drove his music.
bit of sarcasm there ... if you look at his Teenage Wasteland video it was full of comments like mine :P I was just having a leg pull with Tranchera, my nephew.
I was reading a review of this DVD, and it says that Love Ain't For Keeping is on it. Do you think you could upload that one please? It is my favourite song.
PT is great...from the gentle thoughtful ballads, to fingernail removing windmills! If you have it, please post the version of Pure and Easy he talks about after playing Bargain. The Who forever!
I'd love if Lifehouse came out and had sucess.. it had everything to be

It's pretty hard NOT to like a song when the music and lyrics are so strongly, equally matched.
"Can I be matched with you again?"
Sorry, write artist, wrong song.
Peace.

@kentuckywhip I hate Mehar Baba. What good did he do Pete anyway, he remained such an egomaniac that he ended up downloading child porn?

LOL, the guitarist is shown. Pete was playing along to his original guitar track from the album.
>>>Whoever edited this show needs to be kicked. The lead guitarist is playing his ass off and never once is he shown!

No ... the lead guitarist is not on camera while he is playing his solos. It's annoying, bad direction.

I'm sorry folks, but this is all a bit sad and pointless without Daltrey and co. An amazingly powerful song is neutered by its creator.

i agree. pete isn't a bad singer, but this song is one of the ones that really soared because of daltrey's power.

hey buddy.....if you didnt know....the real name to "Teenage Wasteland" is "Baba O'Riley" this song is called "Bargain"

Don't be silly, this is Magic Bus.
PS. See Tranchera's upload of "Teenage Wasteland" (the long, Pete Townshend version of Baba O'Riley) for why I made my original comment.
He gets a lot of idiots telling him he's misnamed it!
BarryDennen12 2 years ago
The video I've put up as Teenage Wasteland is not Baba O'Riley.
