I was too young to remember this, but I love the 60's and this has a nice 60's feel to it. I am a huge Vera Miles fan and would be very interested in seeing the episode "Matakitas Is Coming". I will email you! Thanks for posting this!
This and Episode eight are the only ones that I can remember from the 60's. I only ever saw David Hedison in The Fly and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and he is still with us at the age of 84:
This is one of the better episodes in my opinion, although regarded as "cult" classic 60's television, there are a number of episodes which I found to be too slow and plodding where the plot wanders and which could have been shortened into 30 minutes:
I have waited for years for this to come out on DVD and have never understood why it hasn't done so. I still get goosebumps when i hear that theme tune. It hasn't even been on UK tv for getting on 30 years as far as I can remember. My wait continues.......
@allanscot1 Yes, hard to fathom, isn't it? The uneven HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR and the woeful HAMMER HOUSE OF MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE (the other Hammer-Fox collaboration) have been released so why not JOURNEY TO THE UNKNOWN? Rights/actor issues? Perceived lack of consumer interest? I've no idea.
I've all the episodes (in similar quality) if your looking...
@StatesEdgeFilms Thanks, yeah strange. Other shows like Man In A Suitcase, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), The Champions etc are all shown regularly on UK tv to this day and are easily available on DVD, but not this classic. If you have copies of this show I would certainly be interested, although would they be in a format able to be viewed in the UK?
@allanscot1 Tell you what, I'm much better with old tapes and film reels than I am with these computer-y things. Why would allanscot1 be under the impression I lived in the States? I wondered. Er, because my profile said I was, perhaps? I managed to correct that but somehow removed your channel comment, sorry about that.
I code all my discs region-zero and I've yet to see a UK player that won't handle NTSC discs too so there should be no problem. Are you a collector of old TV/film yourself?
@StatesEdgeFilms Ha ha. Don't worry, I struggle with new technology too! I was impressed someone who seemed to be American had so many old British shows in his collection! I have some old shows, some on VHS and some on DVD, including stuff like Cathy Come Home, The War Game, The Untouchables, Boys From The Blacktuff, and a lot of comedy box sets. Nothing like yours I'm sure, which appears to be huge. I would certainly be interested in Journey to the Unknown if it's available?
Hi!!,I would like to watch the episode titled ''Poor Butterfly''...I remember to have watched it by the 70's when I was a Junior High School student...it really shocked me a lots!!
The very first time I watched that episode, made me feel chills, and would like to watch it again, after almost 35 years!!
I could get to read on a website, that this T.V. series was never broadcasted again, but that the complete series was supposed to come out on sale.
I was born in the late fifties so my comments are pretty much the same as 'beachcomberbob'
As well as this one, an episode that has always stuck in my mind (because it scared the hell out of me) was one where a guy kept seeing a group of people on the far side of a lake... which all became very creepy.
Great to see this again so thanks for posting it up.
BTW, it was great, too to discover here that it was a British series, as I'd always assumed it was American
I've been looking for this series for years - is there anywhere we can get copies? (Especially this episode) Great memories of being allowed to stay up late, to have the pants scared off us, with these 'twist in the tale' stories, Remember the earlier black & white 'Mystery and Imagination' programmes?

@1cineguy No, it hasn't come out on DVD. Probably it will sooner or later, more unlikely shows have made it.
