Kermit says it best to all you people who don't like Steve Whitmire " We'll be seing you soon with more Muppet stuff, because that's the way the boss would want it"
I didn't grow up with the muppets. I fell in love with them when I was fifteen years old, which wasn't too long ago, so I can't really understand what it was like to lose Jim Henson; however, the world definitely lost a very talented man the day he passed away. Even now his work inspires people.
what makes me not cry as hard as i should is seeing all the comments from "kids" who were not alive when Jim passed and you like I grew up with him you kept him alive so from a Gen Xer to you Gen Yers and what ever the one's after that are called thank you for keeping his dream his art alive
Jim Henson was and still is my hero from when I was a infant (well when I was 2 Big Bird was my hero but it's the same thing). He was the very best of humanity and I'm very glad his creations have continued as I would have never been able to see them. Thanks also to Jason Segel for bringing the Muppets back to another generation with the new film =]. RIP Jim, though you died a year before I was born but you have always been a part of my life <3
I was born 2 years after Jim Henson died. Me and my dad watched The muppets as I grew up and even though I wasn't around this video chokes me up because Jim Henson as a person did so many wonderful things and its tragic when they can't be around to continue but its so moving that what they leave behind can impact us even to this day. I can't watch this without crying needless to say
Scooter's line says it best: "Perhaps the substance of Jim Henson's genius was the ability to see wonder far off in crazy directions and get people to follow him there."
Sad note: this was Richard Hunt's last performance as Scooter. He followed Jim just two short years later.
What really added gravity to an already sorrowful moment: for once, Statler and Waldorf were speechless. There was no wisecrack or one liner from them. They just nodded at the letter Piggy was reading.
When Kermit walked in at the end and you can see Jim Henson's picture behind him...OH man. I completely lost it. I am 22 years old. I grew up with the Muppets, and will love them always. :)
@Lovebeinghappy Oh, why didn't I noticed these photos before. Maybe I was too focused on Kermit entering just when they were almost finished with their number. The fact that Kermit was still being operated, still there, and still a character after our original Kermit performer passed, it represents Jim Henson and the muppets living on in the essence of another and how he would be so pleased to see his creations moving on and honoring him.
@teraX5013 except you literally had no idea who Jim henson was because you were born 7 years after. How in te hell would you remember that. You wouldn't
@Raphockey You don't need to actually know someone to know them. Just because he died before she was born doesn't mean that he can't impact her after the fact. Sure she can't have the full effect of it as if he was alive when she was born, but she can still feel the passion throughout the movies.
I am sorry, I have to say this to be colourful: Robin says "Maybe this Jim Henson is inside all of us..." You don't know, Robin, how much inside of you he was, mainly his hand.
@rdfox76 I know that. I meant how much inside all the muppets. He was the main person behind the muppets, so as Kermit once said "he had his hand in a lot of things."
7 years after he died a little girl was born she grew up and just fell in love with the muppets well im 14 now and i still miss jim even with the new movie coming out in a couple of days im rminded of how jim would have wanted to go on no matter what
For some reason I thought he died in the mid 90s cause I can still remember when he died. When I found out it was in 1990 that he passed its hard to believe I remember it as I was 3 at the time. He had that big of an impact...
I feel better in thinking that one day someone like Jim Henson will turn up and make the world a better place. I intend to be that person, I hope you do to....
Happy birthday Jim. Even though you made such an amazing impact you were taken well before your time. If there is a heaven I'm sure you walked straight in with your head held high and whatever deity is running that place shook your hand for a full ten minutes before handing the keys to the place over.
I remember watching this as a child in my grandmothers room. I was so hurt to watch the muppets being so sad. This is one of those child hood memories burnt into my mind
@andrysb24 Absolutely can't watch without crying... also because it's Steve Whitmire's first performance as Kermit, the beginning of the huge imitation.
@ZNKChannel Haha! Definitely not. That's how he sounded on this appearance... which I'm guessing was the first time anyone other than Jim performed his voice. Might have been tricky for them to get it just right...
@DidymusBrush Well, on other versions of this vid, Steve is performing Kermit and it sounds just like the Kermit today. Listen to Just One Person uploaded by someone else & compare that to this.
@ZNKChannel No idea then. This was recorded from its UK broadcast on Channel 4, around the same time as Monster Maker, which is on the same tape. The audio hasn't been doctored in any way and I've had this vhs tape for over 20 years so this is DEFINITELY how it was broadcast. It may just be because its a different part of the show, and this was the big tribute at the end which was a very emotional moment for them all?
It's just that I finally sound a high-quality version of Just One Person but when I got to Kermit's scene, I thought you were fan-dubbing. Hope you aren't upset.
@ZNKChannel Not at all.. no worries! I looked at another version on here and to me it does sound the same, but the other one is really low quality so its distorting. I'd guess it probably was due to the emotional nature of the scene... either that or my video's gone funny with age. Could even be a PAL speed-up causing the issue... ;-)
@ZNKChannel If there's a difference, it might be that I seem to recall it was Brian who voiced Kermit in this one show only. I might be wrong, but that's how I remember it--Brian voiced Kermit in this, then Steve took over.
@ZNKChannel Ahh, OK. I do recall Brian once saying in an introduction for a Muppet Show episode broadcast on Nickelodeon that it took him a long time to figure out how to do Kermit's voice, and he had to finally watch footage of Jim doing it to figure out the trick (pull back the corners of your mouth and frown at the same time). Maybe Steve was still having that issue, too?
man this is such a beautiful song...i love that they kept the muppets innocent like children, not realizing that he'd died...hard to believe it's been 20 years without him...we miss you every day jim
Sorry - I was always led to believe he was taking over from his dad for this. Urban legend, or something... it was reiterated to me last week by someone else entirely!
