well its much better than a stock pickup... Sounds great for clean stuff but a bit muddy with gain. It seems "dark" to my ear but that balances out the extremely bright JB bridge pickup when I put it in the middle position. It's a very warm pickup but can be articulate when you need it to (like this song). I would say I am happier with this than the JB in the bridge.
what about jb in the bridge is it too bright? What is your experience. I'm thinking about something between jb and "custom custom".
I rather exclude jb because se custom is not so dark guitar like les pauls, it's rather well balanced. I thought about sh-11 "custom custom" too but it could be to warm.
Well I don't have too much experience with pickups other than PAF style pickups like the ones in Gibson LPs or SD 59s. I kind of wish I had bought something lower output like the SD 59s. It seems like the JB is basically a hot PAF and its just a bit too bright for my tastes. But then again, I just got a new amp yesterday and maybe my opinion will change.
Well now that I have my Egnater Rebel 20, I can tell you I'm much happier with both pickups. Before I was using a crappy crate v18 tube amp I picked up for $149. The pickups are VERY responsive to the volume knob on your guitar. I can get a really great jimmy page tone with the middle position. The neck pickup is great for RHCP and funky stuff. The bridge still is a bit too bright for me but if you dial down the tone and mess with the amp its still great. Both pickups clean up very very well
thanks, I have finally bought sh-14 custom 5 and i am extremely happy.
Trebles are not emphesised to much, it has great, clear mids. I found it to be hotter and overdrived is just perfect, clean channel is a bit compressed, but i only use neck for clean sound. i will post a video soon.
