Finds things other people have discarded, and creates.. art - teenage/20's.. Hunter represents dangers along the way (he could have just as easily been shot). The fire is continued aging.. "do not go gently into this goodnight - rage against the dying of the light". Returns home, and everyone is old. Goes to sleep (dies), black and white, and naked. As he started this life.

He wakes up, naked (born)... black and white. Sees a cold world outside his window (outside the womb) he sits as the world passes by in fast motion, & he doesn't understand, all he wants is milk (ie: Mother's breast milk).
Colour- playing (youth), running with sheep (following the mases, peer pressure, teens).
An amazing song, accompanied by a great video. Whilst the others seem to be trying too hard to be artsy, this one is simple - it tells a story that's sweet, meloncholy.
everytime i hear this i think of my best friend who died on February 3rd in a fatal car accident which killed 2 other friends of mine. R.E.M was a band me and my best friend always listened too and i kno if he were here he would be loving this new album. RIP
I love the song and the video complements it so well. It's quite unusual and isn't what you expect which I think is part of what makes it so beautiful.
Although I simply loved Accelerate for its energy, Collapse into now is, in my opinion, their most significant and complete album since either Automatic for the People or Fables of the Reconstruction. Prior to Accelerate, I had started to lose faith in REM, but they have come back, and strong at that!!!! When the inevitable end does flow into currency, I believe that this album will not only justify itself, but once again show that REM is one of the most significant bands of the modern era!
@stephenzevon Knowing that he contributed, I can tell. Even if I didn't know, I would have suspected. If you listen to Eddie's solo album for the movie "Into the Wild", you'll hear parts that echo the guitar arrangement in this R.E.M. song. Particularly in the first track called "Setting Forth". Also, Eddie lets out grunty noises around 3:25 , 3:50 and onward.

as far as a tour, i'd hoped to skip it if there was one this time. R.E.M. is amazing live. even now. even still. but tickets were just getting way too expensive. i've been w/them since the clubs. (i still prefer bands in clubs.) i know they can command any size venue, but paying 100-ish bucks for a decent seat sucks.
Thumbs up if you think REM should go on tour, they said they don't need to go on tour to help album sales, okay you don't go on tour for album sales?? I know you guys have been around for a long time and you dont need to tour to sell albums, but you go on tour for US the fans.
This video reminds me of the sad fact that in the USA, many parents teach their children that that the "natural outdoors" is a scary place, to be avoided. The end result is children who are completely disconnected from nature. In the video, this boy managed to play outdoors, unsupervised, without being hauled away by pedophiles. (grin)
So basically the kid's a pyro? haha I love the song but the video doesn't make a whole lot of sense (and it's too long and needs to stretch the song even more).
I love the new album, one of R.E.M.s best IMO. I can't say the same for these videos... i'm not at all impressed. They seem to be an afterthought out of necessity rather than a work of art derived from the song.
rem defies gravity. Everything that goes up must come down. How the hell can rem stay in the air for so long? Amazing that they can stay relevant for ONE MILLION YEARS. Well I am losing count anyway.

I truly believe Collapse into Now was the huge comeback!!! This video reminds me of good old REM times!!! Well done to REM! Every song on this album gives me the goosebumps!!!

fantastic video. beautiful, beautiful. this song might be album's saving grace. especially the silence in the middle. most of what i've heard is just so much re-hash.
as far as a tour, i'd hoped to skip it if there was one this time. R.E.M. is amazing live. even now. even still. but tickets were just getting way too expensive. i've been w/them since the clubs. (i still prefer bands in clubs.) i know they can command any size venue, but paying 100-ish bucks for a decent seat sucks.

Thumbs up if you think REM should go on tour, they said they don't need to go on tour to help album sales, okay you don't go on tour for album sales?? I know you guys have been around for a long time and you dont need to tour to sell albums, but you go on tour for US the fans.

This video reminds me of the sad fact that in the USA, many parents teach their children that that the "natural outdoors" is a scary place, to be avoided. The end result is children who are completely disconnected from nature. In the video, this boy managed to play outdoors, unsupervised, without being hauled away by pedophiles. (grin)

I love the new album, one of R.E.M.s best IMO. I can't say the same for these videos... i'm not at all impressed. They seem to be an afterthought out of necessity rather than a work of art derived from the song.
