These type of stoves are great. They fit perfectly inside the GSI Soloist pot or the Primus EtaExpress pot. The EtaExpress has a reactor attached and can boil 1L of water in just over 2 mins with a stove like this one.
@jntroisi I have always loved these kinds of stoves myself. I have not had a chance to use the Primus Eta pot but for experimental reasons I would love to try one. I did however use a Jet Boil mug and had a 2 min 39 sec boil time and other times which are about the same. Have you got a stove such as this and if so do you use it on hikes?
@NCHiker1970 I made a bunch of these stoves for myself and my friends out of a 1 quart paint can and soup can. They seem to work as well as the Bushbuddy's and such, but don't last that long due to the soup can used. I use them on day hikes and even used it as the coffee water boiler on a four day camping trip this summer. With the Primus EtaExpress, it's such a nice compact effective 1 person kit.
Sorry about that i was entranced by the music and forgot to comment on the stove before hitting post comment... lol...:)
Noticed you didnt put holes around the inner bottom can wall similar to the ones at the top of the inner can wall and just put holes on the flat bottom of the inner can, did you find they werent needed? was there any ash build up that affected the intake of air at the bottom of the inner can? few holes on the bottom of the inner can wall helps :)
I have made stoves like this with the holes in the bottom side of the stove, but this was an experiment and it seemed to have worked fairly well. Since this stove I have built another which I used 3/16 expanded metal as a grate in the bottom of the burn chamber and it has turned out to work even better then this stove shown here. I also increased the top holes on the burn chamber to 3/8 of an inch. For me this design works, it is all in how you want the stove to work, everyone has a preference.
Great stove. The one thing I really like about your designs, is that they always look professionally made, like I could buy it in a store. Excellent work.
You should see the protos, they are a mess. After I figure out what Im doing thats when I make the one to be used. And the ones that do not make it to the trail still get recycled so they can be put to use somewhere else.
Very Interesting Stove Design. I'm going to try the holes in the bottom of my stove and see what results I get from that, Also I am thinking of adding maybe a couple more holes in the burn chamber. In Fact Your Video and your insight has given me another idea I need to work on when I wake up in a few hours. Oh Wait the coffee Brewer Is Making me more coffee, Looks Like I won't be sleeping in this morning.
the can has the top cut out, I flanged out the burn chamber, put another can lid over the top with a smaller hole cut in it to hold the burn chamber in place. I riveted it into place.

great stove
how much does it weigh?

Thanks, and it weighs 4.125 oz. sounds heavy but consider how much weight fuel adds to a pack. Plus fuel is free.... Bonus! LOL

This music makes me think of Canoeing or Kayaking along a calm desolate lake at 6am, Kind of mentally takes you there. :)
