Am I right in thinking this was used as the theme for a kids adventure series with the same title starring Pamela Franklin, who later starred in The Prime OF Miss Jean Brodie with Dame Maggie Smith ?
YES!!. The BEST!!.. My FAVORITE DC5 song EVER!!.. VERY- VERY Beatle-ish!!.. Here they come again, mmmm, Catch us if U can mmmm. Time to get a move on, mmmm, We will yell with all of our might... CATCH US IF U CAN... Now we gotta run, mmmm, No more time for fun mmmm, When we're getting angry mmmm, We will yell with all of our might... CATCH US IF U CAN... Dave Clark was NOT gay!! (Not that there's anything wrong with it.).. If he WAS gay then the song would have been sung... "Catch us in the can."
Beatles' heavy competition at that time but... they had all Beatles' hairstyle !... Like the Monkees, the Turtles and so many ! We can realize how important was the Fab Four influence, even in competition ! (I'm wondering if even the Stones weren't having the Beatles' hairstyle at a moment... Anybody knows ?) GREAT SONG ! TOO SHORT !
The year was 1965 friend & I were cruising the streets of Buffalo N.Y. we were in a hopped up 65 Chevelle 327 350 h.p. that night & we out ran the cops with this song playing when they tried to pull us over for speeding.
I saw the DC5 at the Steel Pier in Atlantic city . I was 10 my parents took me and my sister. At that time they were bigger than the Beatles....for a month or so.
What a great feeling to once again experience the 60's and DCF. My record collection has been stolen. Thank God for Youtube. Dave Clark Five was one of my big idols in the mid 60's. At that time It was also cool to have a totally unknown favorite. My great unknown heroes were THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Amazingly good!
Thanks, Troy Davis, and all the other Trojan Horse Soldiers. I never lost faith in my homies behind the big walls. My daddy raised me right -- just how many times did he sit me down to watch our favorite bonding movie The Bird Man of Alcatraz? Feed the Birds, sings Mary Poppins. Build the bird nest and they will come, says the movie Field of Dreams. Catch us if you can, Love, The Manson Family.
I talked to a Marine vietnam veteran a while back who used to work with recon (said he had the grey hairs to prove it) said they used to fly out listening to this song while being shot at.. original bad ass music lol
I have read that at one time people in the UK used to debate whether it would be the Beatles or the Dave Clark Five who would be come most popular. The DC5 had a very powerful and polished sound. Well, we all know how it turned out - the creativity of the Beatles trumped everything else. But the DC5 still have a cool sound...
Funny how many bands were erupting then, many with decent voices and cute front men. I followed them all. You can see often that the result was okay, but the tune-writing, the arrangements and the instrumental riffs were generally not up to those of the Beatles and the Stones... so it was likely that they would rise to the top and last longer.
My friends and I went to see the DC5's movie "Catch Us If You Can" at the RKO Kenmore Theater, on Church Ave. in Brooklyn, NY. When the house lights came up, the DC5 ran out onto the stage! We had no idea they'd be there. I was in the front row, end seat on the right. So close I could almost have reached out and touch them as they ran past. What a night!
Thanks for bringing this memory to the surface. I haven't thought of it in years.
as far as dc5 being an influence bruce & E street wouldnt have happened or at least would not have had the same feel to them . bruce even borrowed some riffs from them s.a. paradise by the sea . Dave was beside the leader of the band the business manager and such . Just wish he'd license his music to touchtunes and the like cause basically 'cept for tube and the undergroundgarage dc5 isnt out there . Hell of alot more bands should be in " rock and roll " hall including purple and rush ,
DC5 were another group who did better in the states than the UK, their music was good but it never really progressed, the late Mike Smith was the person whose voice lead the group, from what I have read Dave Clark's input to the recordings was very little.
The Dave Clark 5 was as big a band for a few years as anybody back then, lots of bands were trying to capture that British Invasion sound at the time. The DC5 was pretty succesful for a few years and worth recognition. I'm NOT a Rush fan but do believe Rush and Deep Purple should be considered as well.
It doesn't make sense that bands like Rush and Deep Purple still aren't in the R&R hall of fame yet the Dave Clark 5 are. The DC5 simply followed in the footsteps of the Beatles and had some hits but that's it but they weren't innovators or original in any way. By 1967 rock matured and most British bands like them bit the dust because they couldn't keep up. So how does a mediocre band like them get into the Hall of Fame? Hell Linda ronstadt still isn't in the Hall of Fame.
@dsfddsgh nothing makes sense about this organization. they appear to be nothing more than a homeowners association, and you know how they are. stupid nobodies suddenly with a little power, and no idea what they are doing with it....
Back in the day, the DC5 were often compared to the Beatles as their chief competitor (along with the Stones) -- and each had their followers. DC5's music has actually held up pretty well, though you don't hear it too often on the radio, Good harmonies and crisp instruments will always be a winning combo!
@TubeNumber1USA ~ IMHO, The Byrds (Clark, McGuinn, Hillman, Crosby & Parsons) were not just from L.A. ~ they were the biggest 60's band to EVER originate from Southern California.
Well, I don't know about all the chat here but I do, well, remember the DC5 being every big as the Stones & Beatles when they all hit the beaches of America in late late 63 or early 64. I started my senior year of H.S. in Septebmer 1964 and was listening and watching every song, every scream every everything! I've read that the DC5 might have tried, by 1966-67, to move into a more "mature" musical genre ~ I don't really know but I do remember that they practically disappeared by 1967.
@oldfogie1000 I'm pretty sure they had promoters egging them one, plus flashing signs saying "scream you bitches!"
I agree, it is very annoying. Went to a RS concert sometime in the last century and you couldn't hear the band for the screaming. Plus it took place in an outdoor stadium in July, and all the kids passing out and vomiting from the heat didn't make for a memorable concert.
Honestly, along with surf music, the "British Invasion" sound was completely played out by 1966. Luckily, Hendrix showed up and stuck a fork in it for good!!
@iiRAZZERii I know what yer saying. Bunch a noisy teenyboppers. I remember when I saw the first Beatle movie at the walk-in and that's all I heard the whole time, screaming! All I wanted was to watch them sing, play their guitars and try to emulate them. The girls could care less. All they could think of was who is the cutest and that kinda crap!
@eyejuzhurled The only thing I really remember about going to see "HELP" were all of the screaming girls. You couldn't hear the dialogue or the music.
This song was on an ablbum Having a Wild Weekend. Therwas also a movie of the same name. I don't remember who was with me when I saw the movie. It was so long ago. I have long since lost the album, There was a song I still hum sometimes called I think .....
Don't Be Taken In..................... I sure wish I could find the whole album. Those were some great times back when I was young as a teen, not a care in the world...
Mike Smith looks like Hugh Grant! I always thought he was the cutest. I also thought it was funny they called themselves the "Dave Clark Five" when Mike was the lead singer.
@kangadillo yes but remember Dave founded the group , managed them, produced them and financed them - he paid them all £50.00 a week in the early days
@kangadillo -- Manfred Mann were a British beat, rhythm and blues and pop band of the 1960s, named after their South African keyboardist, Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band.[1] Manfred Mann were chart regulars in the 1960s, and the first south-of-England-based group to top the US Billboard Hot 100 during the British invasion.[2]

Ah yes the pinnacle of DC5's first wave 60's run. Loved it. Any vinyl collectors site will explain the mathematics behind some artists being more in demand than others. Actually saw Weekend recently on TV. Interesting but somewhat - forced(try too hard feel)
In the world of vinyl collecting, DC5 is more in demand than most Beatles releases. Does anyone remember their movie "Having A Wild Weekend"? At least I think that was the title.
Talent is only a minds bend away! Remember to never forget that which brought you to here in the first place. DC5 was real and you could feel their music in your soul.
THIS IS MUSIC -- THE DECADE OF THE 60'S IS IRREPLCAEABLE. THE TIMES , THE DRAG RACING , AND YES THE WAR. THE WAR WHERE 58000 DIDNT COME BACK -I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO THEIR MEMORY.

I just spent two hours searching around for this song, trying different combination's and permutations of the title, no luck. Then suddenly there swam into my aged, feeble, drug addled mind, hey it's the dave clark five, BINGO. Thanks.
I remember this song played in an advert from 1995 for new Walker's Crinkle Cut crisps - Cream Cheese & Chives, Cheese & Ham and Roast Beef & Mustard. You'd think this song was by *'The Beach Boys'*.
This is what music was all about! A true classic! Mike Smith voice is greatly missed!!! At least they were finally honored and inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame! Too little, too late! :-(
the dave clark five to my mind- just seem to be a Beatles ripp off.. only they are souless... kind like '' 60's jock pop'...the druming sucks big time
Music died in the nineties. There is nothing out there now I would even care to listen to. Its all screaming yelling, cussing crap hip hop, crap rap, guitar blaring NOISE! Oh yes the hear for miles the thumping on the retarded heads of the fools who listen to it. Sadly(tehe) those idiots who listen to all that head beating crap, will lose their hearing.
This music will be as fun 50 years from now!! I play all decades for the voices and/or the beats (go drummer!); all the DC5 stompers have both - thank you for posting the festive jam and video!! The original mono 7" singles still pack the dancefloor!! Happy New Year!! DAVEDJ
@fgonzalezcuba2008 Dave Clark consciously retreated to the business side of music,he is listed as co writer on every DC5 song,& wisely waited until all other claims expired to start re releasing their material He is still in pretty good health~ He also distributes material from old British TV shows that featured a wide range of
@Nuerth dave was a smart businessman. he never shared record royalties with his band either. he paid them salaries. bruce does the same thing with the e street band. but i'm sure bruce is pretty generous.
@TubeNumber1USA -- Not at all! Early Beatles big influence was Buddy Holly. DC5 was influenced by American Top 40 R&B/R&R. Rolling Stones, however, were influenced by American blues artists putting them in a most unique class by themselves.
@Strawberry7Lynn = Maybe you should have told them before they had all those #1 Hits? LOL! Different strokes for different folks. Drummers are an individualistic breed. Base drum is cocked sideways too?
dc5 hendrix experience mitch ryder and the detroit wheels pr and the raiders the new beat and little strevie wonder fingertips my first albums given to me by my aunt after she had worn them out hated those scratches and pops back then god how i miss them now music was real then it was an age of discovery and change when things were moved with man power not with the touch of a button mabey im just romanticising but things seemed more real then the music (was) new not caned!
Well, i think Justin Beiber is bringing back the style of haircut. His hair is very similar done up like the Dave Clark Five guy's hairdos. These guys were rockin' back then, and it still does rock now days!
Living in this era in New York was something that you will never forget. Take a walk in the park and you would be surprised who you would meet just walking. It was a time to get your guitar and play till your fingers bled. It was great.
3321,3567 views. uncontested proof that this genre is still alive and contributing to our musical enjoyment regardless of what other sh*t they try to force feed us and call music.
@Steve915 I LOVE the DC 5, and my mother actually went to see them. But the Supremes, Herman's Hermits, and the Beach Boys all had more top 40 hits than the DC 5 from 1964-1967, and the Supremes had 10 #1 hits in the US in that time period.
Am I right in thinking this was used as the theme for a kids adventure series with the same title starring Pamela Franklin, who later starred in The Prime OF Miss Jean Brodie with Dame Maggie Smith ?

Ah yes the pinnacle of DC5's first wave 60's run. Loved it. Any vinyl collectors site will explain the mathematics behind some artists being more in demand than others. Actually saw Weekend recently on TV. Interesting but somewhat - forced(try too hard feel)
MrByrdbath 10 months ago
In the world of vinyl collecting, DC5 is more in demand than most Beatles releases. Does anyone remember their movie "Having A Wild Weekend"? At least I think that was the title.

I remember this song played in an advert from 1995 for new Walker's Crinkle Cut crisps - Cream Cheese & Chives, Cheese & Ham and Roast Beef & Mustard. You'd think this song was by *'The Beach Boys'*.

I know they make a lot of fun about their teeth back in the 60's but I think it gave them charm. Now a days, everybody looks like Ken dolls.

able to see them in ABS CBN Aduana because there were so many

DAVEDJ

I BELIEVE DAVE CLARK DIED , AM I RIGHT? OR WRONG?
fgonzalezcuba2008 1 year ago
@fgonzalezcuba2008 Dave Clark consciously retreated to the business side of music,he is listed as co writer on every DC5 song,& wisely waited until all other claims expired to start re releasing their material He is still in pretty good health~ He also distributes material from old British TV shows that featured a wide range of
early 60's rock
Nuerth 1 year ago
@Nuerth dave was a smart businessman. he never shared record royalties with his band either. he paid them salaries. bruce does the same thing with the e street band. but i'm sure bruce is pretty generous.

DC5 may've been like "Shemp" to the Beatles' "Curly" but still they're better than any band on the pop scene today!
WytZox1 1 year ago
@WytZox1: RE: DC5 may've been like "Shemp" to the Beatles' "Curly" .
That must make The Stones "Joe DeRita".
TubeNumber1USA 7 months ago
@TubeNumber1USA -- Not at all! Early Beatles big influence was Buddy Holly. DC5 was influenced by American Top 40 R&B/R&R. Rolling Stones, however, were influenced by American blues artists putting them in a most unique class by themselves.

No, there was no wireless technology in 1965, they are singing live to a pre-recorded music track, so their guitars aren't plugged in.
ericsandmark 1 year ago
@ericsandmark
I don't think they are singing live - much too close to the original brilliant harmonies ...
Berniewahlbrinck 10 months ago

To BrokenCamProductions, no they didn't have
wireless technology in 1965, they are simply
lip-synching, like so many bands did back then.
I think the only show that you were GUARANTEED
to get live vocals and music was Ed Sullivan.
Some shows had them sing live to a pre-recorded
back track, and some had them lip-synch the whole thing.

Living in this era in New York was something that you will never forget. Take a walk in the park and you would be surprised who you would meet just walking. It was a time to get your guitar and play till your fingers bled. It was great.

The Dave Clark 5 are largely forgotten now, but it should be pointed out that only the Beatles had more top 40 hits from 1964 to 1967 than they did.
The DC5 made some damn good music.
Steve915 1 year ago 44
@Steve915 I LOVE the DC 5, and my mother actually went to see them. But the Supremes, Herman's Hermits, and the Beach Boys all had more top 40 hits than the DC 5 from 1964-1967, and the Supremes had 10 #1 hits in the US in that time period.
