Do they have a place to get out of the water? cause they need one, also they really need be in brackish water if you want to keep them alive for longer than about 3 months. Also seal all exits to your tank otherwise as you have already discovered they will find escape.

you have to buy marine salt and measure out a certain ration of salt per gallon of water. Also get a hydrometer to measure the salinity.
