Been there, done that - USCGC Rush (WHEC 723) - Bering Sea - Pre-FRAM (1976-1978). RM3. And aeroman - try doing fisheries patrols in the Bering Sea in January on a weenie little patrol boat or buoy tender. I did a tour at a small boat station (Port Aransas) and a bouy tender (CGC Salvia) - different missions - equally important.
@aeroaman - Hate to burst your bubble, but 'black hulls' are USCG cutters, too. And if you've never made a meaningful deployment (and I mean PCS) on a WHEC, you are perhaps not in the best position to throw out a value judgement like that. All missions are equally important.
@aeroaman uscg got new cutters and are being built, uscg's role is not only to be in small boats and airstations but they need bigger boats just in case they get attacked by a different nations navy boat. USCG Semper Paratus oorah
served on her as an mst in 1972-1973 boston and 1973-1974 seattle the panama canal experience i will never forget. great to see her continuing to serve our country well. great video thanks for sharing and thanks to all the coast guardsmen and coast guardswomen serving on her and around the globe. t.scanlon bradenton fla
Boutwell was and is the finest 378 of them all. I served in her pre-FRAM and we did everything you see here and then some. 49 boardings in 46 days in the Bering, then turned around in Unimak Pass to rescue a burning crab boat at St. Paul Island...we worked hard, ran out of 'freshies,' drank 'space milk' and accomplished a lot. Glad to see you're carrying on the proud tradition. Semper Paratus!
I'm SO glad to see something being done but I wonder what happens to these Sh*theads once they get busted? All their sake gets re-posesed and mail in a $30.00 fine or what? Ought to do like the Russian C.G. used to and just open up on them with the big stuff, then send the ammunition bill to the owners. Obvious they don't take us seriously enough. I mean, how many are we not getting out there and do the ones we get just come back; new name, new paint?(well maybe not paint but..)
The boats get taken back to China, and they literally cut the boats in half. China is onboard with us about fisheries protection and they're pretty serious about it.
question to all USCG: do the 378 ft whecs have like a CIC similar to those seen in other navy ships?

USCG Cutters...old, slow, inefficient, and largely without purpose. Small boat stations, black hulls, and air stations make sense.

Nice shot of the water rushing over the fantail. That is the fantail right? I only know 210's, not 378's.

Yeah that was the fantail... the decks were secured but my buddy snuck out
