Nicely put. When you consider strongman as a whole i think the #1 question is and always will be. "Who is the strongest that ever lived". And I think in truth the athletes themselves have by far the best perspective. They know what supplements/steroids whatever have had the greatest effect on themselves and can project those gains on men of the past to a degree. When Savickas, who is arguably the strongest man alive says Kaz tops that list. U have to ask, why would he say that." Just a thought.
Good interview. As a hardcore fan of the sport, its nice to hear the athletes talk about the actually sport from their POV. Some times its frustrating hearing the same old interviews given by ppl who are unfamiliar with the sport.
Good for you not taking my opinion as a personal attack. I give ya props for responding and your explanation is completely plausible. It just seemed like you were trying to get to your next question and were not following up his answers well but your reply explained that. Again props for replying and props for the honesty in your reply.
And I just grabbed them and asked them if they had a minute and if i could ask a few questions. I just ended up throwing questions after question(most i knew the answer to) that I had written down for different athletes. Blah blah blah. Really caught off guard. Questions about damn near everything. A complete and utter meltdown. Trust me it was embarrassing(sorry Derek!)
Lesson learned. I posted this because Derek still gives a wealth of info despite my stupidity and lack of preparation.
I'm in 100% agreement. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I'm the dumbass interviewing. lol! I freaking cringed when i did this and after and nearly didn't post it. I know Derek was probably thinking WTF!
This was shot after dinner in the Grand Hotel in Malta the night before the finals in 2009. I had a notebook with all the questions I wanted to ask Derek and the follow ups and left it in my room. I was headed back to my hotel and saw Derek and Kristin walking through the eating area.
Derek is a great spokesman for his sport BUT the dude giving the interview sucks! Could he start a question and maybe stick with it and ask the right follow up questions even ONCE. When Derek talks about strongman with no interviewer he is better than with this guy asking the questions. Just a horrible interviewer.
