@NinjaMaximum it's actually fictional as far as the Precious character, but the author Sapphire based all the experiences on real people she had come across in her life as a family mediator and teacher. For example, She had a 32 yr old female student who was learning literacy and wanted to be a poet, and one day said she had to find a sitter for her mentally disabled child who turns out was 20 yrs old, which turns out was the product of incest from the girl's father, so that's that part of it.
