I've done the rewire thing and used synths from reason in a demo ive done... ive then mixed all the tracks (ive recorded guitars and bass by the way) the synths from reason are going through an aux channel and into logic.
when i tried to bounce them, logic wouldnt bounce the aux channels... what do i do?
i open up logic pro 9 first wait for it to finish loading, create an audio track and then open reason. but reason isnt entering slave mode. what am i doing wrong?
I don't know which may cause this, but after I load up logic 8 and then reason 6, the output device does not register as "Reason slave mode." This option is not available on my audio settings either. I have lost my ignition key for reason so I have to open it with internet access, and logic 8 is torrented. What is causing it?
i get how to use a reason instrument in logic by making a aux track of 3/4 from reason then creating a external midi instrument and i write a loop and play it all fine but then when i close logic its gone. how to i permantly keep the audio i record there
@adrher1 Save each projects separately to where ever you want, even in different folders i.e. Logic & Reason. Then when you bounce from 'Logic' you will have your complete song from both projects!
I NEED YOUR HELP WHENI TRY AND RECORD IT IT RECORDS THE INSTRUMENT I WANNA USE BUT STILL NO SOUNDS IN SEND THROUGH 3-4 IN AN AUX JUST WHEN I PLAY BACK NO SOUND DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG
hi...! im woking on logic 5.5 for pc yet,and im searching forlong time now to find any help on how to rewire it with reason, actually im doing a what u do for logic on mack but it dont work for pc :( any idea pease?
thanks i have problem. when i open up my kong and i want to put a different sound on a pad, the previewer doesnt play the sound automaticcally, i have to choose sthe sound and go back to kong and play it.. help
Wohoo perfect tutorial only thing was that i nearly went mental trying to figure out why slave mode never came up untill i figured out that i was in 64 bit mode in logic ....back to 32 bit mode and it came up hopefully 64 bit rewire soon other then that thanks again ;-)
Logic seems to not think Reason exists. I've done it exactly as shown here, to the letter. Ive opened logic then reason, its in rewire slave mode, etc etc etc, but when I create the aux channel strip there is no Reason selection in 'inputs'. It just gives me input or bus. I also see that Reason has appeared in the library on the right hand side of Logic for you, but it is nowhere to be seen for me.
thanks bro...but one thing i have noted that if we don't select the external midi track option then in the aux track input option will show rewire not reason.
How would you go about getting each part of the reason drum kit to have its separate track in Logic? like having the kick on one channel, snare on another, and so on? recording that signal into audio? Sorry if im being confusing!
@JamesBranstonMusic I've been using Logic for a long time and know it inside out, although using it with rewire it makes me feel like a completely new program. Oh and how did you record your screen? I've got Ishow u but ive no idea how to use it right. Great stuff by the way :)
This is truly amazing. Have looked for hours trying to get a tutorial that simply explains how to use Rewire. This was all I needed thet whole time. Amazing job.
@powdermonkeydan - you shouldn't need to move the cables to 3/4 you can just leave them at default 1/2 on Reason Mixer and route the aux in logic to pull a stereo track from Reason L/R, can't you ????
@powdermonkeydan it's not really confusing, because you can use 3/4 5/6 7/8 etc for other instruments you add to reason... Its just how the audio routes OUT of reason .. really... so using LR is not going to confuse anyone. Just a tip :) - also, you can hit that + sign on the mixer to add an AUX channel, save you all the clicking around....
hi does anyone know why it wont record on logic? also every time i highlihgt the transpot every track still plays, i dunno how to stop them just to use logic or how to record whats in reason onto my logic track, its not working, any help much appreciated thx
Correct me if I'm wrong :s would it not be easier to link the output 3-4 to a mixer and have your individual instrument running through there? Awesome video though it helped a lot couldn't get any signal whatsoever before this :D
Great Video! you explain rewire and logic very well! But, some reason I am unable to make it work. I first open Logic and then I open Reason. I opened an aux strip but then I don't see Reason on the drop down. When I look at Reason in the Midi in device it says no Midi input. Do I need to change something so it will say midi input?
when using my keyboard, i still have the sound coming from reason when on other tracks so i have 2 sounds playing together. Why is this? The only way i can get it to shut up is if i mute the aux but that's just a pain.
Hi. This has been covered in other posts. Basically it's because you have a track selected in Reason as well as Logic. Best thing to do is create an instrument with NO sounds in Reason, click on it in the Sequencer to assign it to the keyboard, then play your sounds in Logic. Problem solved!
This video won't work for me - could someone tell me whether this is a problem with the video or with my connection? (I suspect the latter, but if someone could check that'd be ace).
great tutorial...very straight forward and very decent video quality and sound...I can actually see and hear what you're talking about (compared to 90% of other vids) Good job.
Great tutorial. I knew how to rewire Reason 4 into Cubase 4.5 but as I'm still new to Logic 9 was in need of help - and this video was just the trick! Cheers!
@powdermonkeydan How do you put the reason audio output into slave mode. Ive opened it after logic, deleted the mixer, and done evrything you have said, but it just says "audio out"
Hi. I'm having problems with getting any sound from reason at all. I have uninstalled and re-installed it, still no sound. Whatsmore, at the top in the Reason hardware device, it simply says "no sound" in the green box, without letting me change it to ReWire slave mode.
@12345l6789 Make sure you have the latest rewire client from the Propellerheads website. Load Logic first, then Reason. You'll know Rewire's working as it will say "Rewire Slave Mode" on the Reason hardware device. Hope that helps :)
I am using logic express 8 and the reason demo i downloaded off the website. I followed all the steps in the video, but when I am choosing the input on logic, reason does not show up as an option.
Is this simply because I am using the demo? Or logic express?
Route the output of the Aux rewire Channel to another Bus and this should allow you to record straight to an audio channel. You will need to also setup an audio channel where the input is the same number as the Bus you have routed to.
Well, the whole point of Rewiring is to use Logics mixer. The only way would be to route one entire mixer to a Rewire channel, but that kind of defeats the object.
thank u SO MUCH! I've had Logic 8 in a new iMac l bought last year and Reason 3 from 3 years ago, and I'm so lazy I never learned how to do this. I want to learn, and this is the quickest way.
5 stars, a sub for ya and the check is in the mail! LOL!
What if reason doesn't automatically become the slave? I can't get them to work together, I can't find reason in the input list for my aux input in logic. I'm using logic express, not pro, but I thought this should work as well. Also, my reason is a bit older 2.0 or something.
Yeah I am starting it first. I'm following all the rules in the manual, all the rules in the tutorials, it just simply doesn't work. This is a new mac, with logic express 8, but the reason is old. Reason used to rewire with my cubase on my old PC. Now, however, cubase won't even install on this mac at all. I'm kinda frustrated with mac - let down.
This awesome but just two Qs. 1. Will this work on vista? 2. So Logic Pro is the one which one can add voice or like sing on top of the beats? Sort of creating an actual song...
Logic is discontinued on PC platforms for like 6 years now... The latest version that was for PCs, 5.5, wouldn't even run normally on XP - it was for Windows 98.
Though you can get Ableton Live which is much easier to use than Logic and rewire is just a matter of launching the 2 programs in the right order... :) I do that when i need to add audio.
This is the basic, but how do I get a midi track to trigger the reason sound of choice, and more importantly how do I get an internal midi track to not trigger reason along with it's internal sound
a bus, at least of what i know from mixing boards is where you can send individual channels or inputs, say 1-5 to bus 4, etc, this is when you can control multiple channels on one bus channel to save time, and the reason you don't use 1-2 is that is your main outs, at least this is what i think so far, im just going off of mixing board knowledge right now, and partly logic 8 new2it if this is wrong please correct or i will in the future, i know how inaccurate information is very displeasing
MInes different, everytime I load a new track it goes to reason's mixer and not the hardware device. I'm a noob so I don't know much but I can't really follow your steps verbatim.
I worked it out, but my racks never load like his does n the video. You can either 1. rewire the tracks to the hardware device or 2. rewire the mixer to the lines.
Great video, one question. you mentioned that you were going to explain why not to use channels 1/2 in reason audio router, but you never actually explained it. Please do, or perhaps I missed it.
I guess I would 'advise' to avoid 1 and 2 because they're labelled L-R in Logic (I think) rather than 1-2, and it may cause some confusion. I personally go from 3-4 onwards just to avoid this, but hey - there's no rules!
no dont think it would be. to be honest, I've used Reaosn for years but there's no way its sequencer is better than Logics. Just consider that in Reason a) you can't change note lengths from the start of the note, b) when you click on a note you don't hear it c) huge amount of quantizing options aren't available as they are in Logic. I know change can be scary but I strongly encourage you to play more with Logic's sequencer.
well to me the note length change thing isn't too much of a hassle and i actually prefer it when i don't hear every single note i select/highlight lol.
But i will try to use Logic more so hopefully it'll become easier to me, i'm sure your other tutorials will help a lot too!
Great Video! Just wanted to add (sry if someone else has already mentioned this) that Reason previews through ch 1/2 and that previews can be heard by adding another aux in Logic with the input set to ch 1/2.
oh and btw people, same thing apply if you want to rewire with ableton live: you just need to assign either individual tracks or master track to rewire out to whatever rewire channel you wish to use in logic
One thing - I noticed that in order to hear your options of loops (the preview play option that wasn't working for you towards the end of the video), you must have the PREVIEW button pressed, and then you can listen to your various choices of loops, etc.
please help!! Reason by delay it reproduces [midi] information I do not know that to make separately there is neither into Logic Pro 8 nor into Reason of problems similar! pleaaaseee helpp! Sorry for my english:)
I've done the rewire thing and used synths from reason in a demo ive done... ive then mixed all the tracks (ive recorded guitars and bass by the way) the synths from reason are going through an aux channel and into logic.

a bus, at least of what i know from mixing boards is where you can send individual channels or inputs, say 1-5 to bus 4, etc, this is when you can control multiple channels on one bus channel to save time, and the reason you don't use 1-2 is that is your main outs, at least this is what i think so far, im just going off of mixing board knowledge right now, and partly logic 8 new2it if this is wrong please correct or i will in the future, i know how inaccurate information is very displeasing

MInes different, everytime I load a new track it goes to reason's mixer and not the hardware device. I'm a noob so I don't know much but I can't really follow your steps verbatim.
blacklite911 3 years ago
same here did you work it out?
brom16 2 years ago
I worked it out, but my racks never load like his does n the video. You can either 1. rewire the tracks to the hardware device or 2. rewire the mixer to the lines.

Great video, but what I missed couple of the first time I viewed is why you added a midi instrument in the beginning without saying anything.

greatttt video! thank you soo much! worked like a charm and opened up so many opportunities!

Great video, one question. you mentioned that you were going to explain why not to use channels 1/2 in reason audio router, but you never actually explained it. Please do, or perhaps I missed it.

Ah well spotted!
I guess I would 'advise' to avoid 1 and 2 because they're labelled L-R in Logic (I think) rather than 1-2, and it may cause some confusion. I personally go from 3-4 onwards just to avoid this, but hey - there's no rules!

I have aMacbook and i can run logic but not mainstage because of the GRAPHIC CARD, can u help me???
freshpopband 3 years ago
Hi powdermonkeydan, found your videos really helpful and keep up the excellent work man.
just wondering, is there any way to rewire backwards, as in Reason being the host and Logic(or even ableton) being the slave?
i ask this as i've been using reason longer and prefer it's sequencer and overall workflow, and want to use logics synths.
Thanks :)
nakedinthecityagain 3 years ago
hey
no dont think it would be. to be honest, I've used Reaosn for years but there's no way its sequencer is better than Logics. Just consider that in Reason a) you can't change note lengths from the start of the note, b) when you click on a note you don't hear it c) huge amount of quantizing options aren't available as they are in Logic. I know change can be scary but I strongly encourage you to play more with Logic's sequencer.
All the best!
powdermonkeydan 3 years ago
well to me the note length change thing isn't too much of a hassle and i actually prefer it when i don't hear every single note i select/highlight lol.
But i will try to use Logic more so hopefully it'll become easier to me, i'm sure your other tutorials will help a lot too!
cheers

Great Video! Just wanted to add (sry if someone else has already mentioned this) that Reason previews through ch 1/2 and that previews can be heard by adding another aux in Logic with the input set to ch 1/2.
Thx!

how do i use Melodyne Plugin on Logic Pro?
can anyone help me out?
Jivin004 3 years ago
thank you very much! very useful tutorial
oh and btw people, same thing apply if you want to rewire with ableton live: you just need to assign either individual tracks or master track to rewire out to whatever rewire channel you wish to use in logic
thanx again!

Very good tutorials, sir.
Thank you very much for them.
One thing - I noticed that in order to hear your options of loops (the preview play option that wasn't working for you towards the end of the video), you must have the PREVIEW button pressed, and then you can listen to your various choices of loops, etc.
FWIW.
Thanks again for the videos, sir.
Good job.
