Cool review. This is my fav Pumpkins release. It holds so much mystery, and as you stated, the songs contrast each other greatly, but I think it works well that way.
Very deep and multidimensional, especially for a debut. Corgan's vocals are the best here, as well... awesome reviews, man!
Powerchord undulation to sultry messaged lift your pelvis perfection.. your review is way off... perfectly placed excellently played. I wouldn't change a thing.
@SirAllAboutMusic hahaha sweet, ill bring the bong/ haha man ur pretty cool i just don't like it when people do reviews on songs beacuse music is somthing ur suppost to find on ur own, not from the people on youtube
@SirAllAboutMusic Yeah man crunchy tunes!!! This kinda makes me want to roll a fat blunt smoke some of that killer mango kush my man tony brought from birmingham. Oh and watch gay porn. But like all at the same time. Weed fucking rules. so does smashing pumpkins and gay porn man.
@SirAllAboutMusic ..Yeah dude if you want next time you watch gay porn check out 4 guys, 2 sheep, 3 bottles of epikak, a horse, a mule, 4 whip cream bottles, a bottle of anal lube, a mentally challenged 3 y.o., 6 well masturbated alligators, 1 jizzing dog, cocaine off edward penishands' penishands and a fat indian man with gerbil constipation. Hawtest porno ever to listen to smashing pumpkins and smoke chronic to.
I don't think Chamberlin is underrated at all. I think he gets all the praise he definitely deserves. It may be important to mention that that syncopation is due to him being primarily jazz influenced.
B. I don't understand what you mean by songs sounding over produced. Do you mean fake? As well as you saying glossy, this confuses me. Please help me understand sir!
so far all I have is their rotten apples compilation which got me into the pumpkins about 9 years ago got mellon collie 2 years ago and got siamese dream a few weeks ago, both amazing albums Im hoping on getting them all I'll probably go for Adore next
For not hearing the album yet, It looks like you know what your talking about. Great taste. Congradulations, You have yourself another subscriber my friend.
I don't want to. I like talking about old bands. But if you want to see some cool reviews about new music, go to users/theneedledrop, Awesome stuff there. Thanks for the comment!!
Yeah, LaCrosse Wisconsin. He did a drum clinic. He was signing stuff and playing stuff. He was amazing. Nice guy to. Says he has no bad feelings toward Cogan and still remain friends.
Gish is the album I listen to the most from them. Because of your reviews I've started getting back into the Pumpkins. Need to go out and get Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot and Mellon Collie And The Infinent Sadness.
hey SirAllAboutMusic if you really want to hear distortion listen to My bloody valentines loveless and pleAse do an album review on that one. it is very unique in its own sense and the best shoegazing album ever.
Hey man, I appreciate your comment, and if you PM me the request, I'll be happy to do it, but please don't post the same comment on six videos, it's kind of distracting. Thanks for the comment though!
Awesome review!!! :-D I've never heard this LP, and I'm curious to hear the band's earlier years now that you've said that meld between metal and dream pop wasn't always there.
cool review man it was real detailed. For a fair few years the pumpkins were one of my fave bands and still one i like alot but dont really listen to much anymore. this was a very strong debut record, lookin forward to see your reviews of the others, will you be doing any of the solo albums or side projects of the band members?
Gish was a very promising starting point for the band. The song writing was very well done and a little too showy, but it was just a prelude of things to come.
You are doing these reviews at a nice time, I'm on a a huge pumpkins kick. Gish is incredible, The Pumpkins "Bleach" of sorts. The only problem is that it isn't as consistent as later Pumpkin albums. It has so many damn incredible songs, but my favorite is probably Rhinoceros or maybe Window Paine, it's just so damn perfect. 8.9/10
Can't wait for the Siamese Dream review, and to hear you're favorite track from that album.
I was actually gonna touch on that point about it being the Pumpkins "Bleach"! Dammit totally forgot. Both of them are SURPRISINGLY solid albums, especially for debuts.
At one of the record stores at where I go to college, James Iha (the asian guy in the smashing pumpkins) came out with 400 records! Wish I had the money to do that.
thumbs up if you think the song crush was inspired by pink floyd

Gish was named after Lillian Gish.
Her great granddaughter was friends with my little sister.
Kinda cool I know a relative of the namesake of this record.

the overproduction is what makes gish and SD soo damn good...SD is one of the best sounding albums to this day
andrewface 2 years ago
That's what I said.
SirAllAboutMusic 2 years ago
you made it seem like the production was a weak point of the record when really its one of the strongest
andrewface 2 years ago
Direct quote: "The Smashing Pumpkins sound DEMANDS glossy production...and it doesn't take the power out of the songs."
I never said ANYTHING bad about the production at al. And I gave the record a 9/10.

very solid review dude, but if the smashing pumpkins put obscured as the last track on gish. Gish would be complete and id give it a 10 out of 10
siliva1 2 years ago
I relaly like Obscured, but I'd have to disagree. I think it found it's rightful place on Pisces Iscariot. Just my opinion though.
