  • Cheers BritRedCross for the good work! This is very easy to understand/recapitulate format

  • my teacher said that is you dnt support the person while there puking they can drown in their own vomit coz der lungs fill up puke!!!!!!!!!

  • yup. The recovery position prevents that by opening the airway and letting gravity take any water or vomit away from the mouth or throat.

  • tht is not the right recovery position thts the other 1 i prefere the one tht i learnt ages ago

  • this is also for if the person is choking/throwing up

people actually choke on their own vomit and die, so being rolled sideways prevents that

  • yeah thats what happened to CHIMMY hendrix

  • Wait does the left or right hand go to the cheek or which one?

  • left hand.

but it depends on which arm you put up :)

    lol

  • I doesn't matter which side you roll them to. The arm that's on their far side (the side that's not by you) goes to their cheek. If the person if pregnant roll them to their left side. It has to with weight pressing on their stomach, I believe.

  • does it matter which way you roll them?

  • It depends on the situation, for example if someone had blood coming from their right ear ( indicating some sort of head injury ) roll them so that the right ear is facing towards the floor. If theyre unconcious with a fractures left arm then make sure not to roll them onto the left arm! See what I mean?

  • And don't forget if they're pregnant to turn them to their left. I was just reading about it. Something to do with weight pressing on their cervix? Something along those lines.

  • if a person is vomiting you dont waste time putting them into the recovery position you just support the head and turn the by their sholders from the head

  • i want to know, is this even can be done in suspected cervical spinal injury?

even tilting the head up is already dangerous in cervical spinal injury in which it should be a a jaw thrust maneuver to open the airway

  • You would use the Haines Position. Try looking it up. :)

  • I had no idea there was a "recovery position" thanks Brits!

  • thx for the video

  • she never checked his pockets!! he could have something sharp in there that could harm him when rolled!!

  • Or some money. lol

  • what if you're not sure if they got any broken bones and such?

  • Just comenting on ordre priority as exaplained in previous comments. The easiest way is

    ABCD's

    Asses Scene

    Breathing

    CPR & Circulation

    Deffibrilation

    Severe Bleeding, Shock, Spinal injury

Never move onto the next step until the one you are on is completed. yes serious bleeding and spinal injuries could cause problems but if the casualty needs CPR then they are clinically dead so there is no point dealing with anything else until you have resuccitated and they are alive!

  • he drank too much

  • Thanks For This.

  • im not sure on the last two i may have them mixed up. also i class burns as like cuts and grazes aswell.

  • okay i Know a little first aid but this is what i have been taught in terms of priority,

    Breathing.

    Bleeds.

    Burns.

    Breaks.

  • isnt bleeding/burn more important as severe bleeding could lead to death and burn could dry blood according to the degree of burn?

  • It depends on the seriousness of the person's condition.

If he/she has a little cut than burns are more important, etc.

Thats how in terms of importance breathing is more important.

  • Better to squeeze their shoulders rather than shake them! To Winguu, if you had to leave a casuality to get help you would of course put them in the SAP (safe airway position) The airway is the most important consideration, not a neck or back injury!!!!!

  • are there any times when the person should be just left where he is until an ambulance arrives??

  • yes, if it's unsafe for you to go near them. to check for danger, you have to look (glass or fire etc), smell (gas leek?) and listen (cars etc).

  • You should all do a first aid course! So much bad advice!

  • HOVEVER:

I think there must be an IMPOTANT NOTICE!! (Please add this to comments).

If person fall of something, i.e. from window, don't move his/her neck, don't turn him over, because backbone may be broken, and changing the position may cause even worse damage.

Just unhook upper buttons on clothes, make sure nothing cramps breathing and call the ambulance. Maybe you will be able to make a little roll from a t-shirt and put it under neck, but still not touching it.

    Thanks, good luck!

  • And what if the casualty then aspirates on vomit?

You should do a log roll, but if you are lone in responding you should put them in the recovery position.

    Airway before Spinal Injuries!

  • You could always just "breath fot them" in the "mouth-to-mouth" postition. Use you'r nose.

  • What??

  • Thanks for the video! That is useful position so that aggrieved didn't get smother form his saliva or tongue or vomit (if person is drunk and asleep).

  • how can i download this so i can play it back wile im not on line for teaching

  • i will remember this, amount of times on nights out people have became unconscious cos of drink..

    Thanks

  • i once killed a man with the recovery positon :/

    times were hard

  • Why?

  • THIS SHIT ROX. SAVED A CREEPERS LIFE.

    THANKS BRITISH PEOPLe.

  • u have to make sure the are facing u or u cant do it properly i dnt think

  • does it matter if u put the guy on the left or right side for the recovery position?

  • For guys, no. Roll them toward you. But if it's a woman and there's any chance that she's pregnant, then make sure she's resting on her left side, because lying on the right side could cause the uterus to compress the inferior vena cava, which could result in death.

  • I didn't know that. Thanks.

  • No, either way is ok.

  • yes it is.

    dont forget the blanket lol

  • lol ^^

  • is this for when someone is knocked out and still breathing?

  • This is for when someone is still breathing. If they are not breathing you should use CPR.
