I don't laugh at people when they hurt themselves because some idiot thinks it's a good idea to give them a gun they're not ready for. She knew is had some stout recoil, but she's fired big guns before. I want her to be able to handle them since she's often with me on hunting/camping trips in brown bear country. I leave the 12 gauge loaded with Brenneke slugs with her when my son and I are out scouting for game.
thats awsome dude, i think u found a keeper in both woman and gun for sure.....she looked and moved kinda nervously, but afterwards she said cool with the smile the size of the sun....lol..have fun buddy
I just bought a 15" barrel for a t/c encore handgun in .450 Marlin and a box of the same ammo you're shooting. I've shot a t/c contender with a 14" .45-70 barrel and the recoil was a little stiff I fbut not too bad. I figured the .450 wouldn't be that much worse. I haven't shot it yet but after what your saying about the recoil level it should be a handful of fun.
@theisenbergc The .450 Marlin cartridge runs at much higher pressure than typical factory loads in 45-70. There are 45-70 loads that run as hot as the .450 Marlin, but those come with bold warnings about which firearms they are to be used in. If you were shooting traditional 45-70 loads in your TC, you will find the .450 Marlin to be much heavier in recoil.
@Toyuzu i figured it out as well, when a friendly cop pulled up asked us what we were doing and sent us on our way with a nice polite warning. been sticking to the ranges since.
@52footballplaya Well, According to Chuckhawks recoil table, recoil measured in Ft. lbs. for the 450 Marlin is 37.2. A .338 win. mag. is 33.1. A 30-06 is 20.3. The closest comparison to the .450 marlin in terms of recoil, according to the chart would be a .375 H&H Mag, at 36.1. Don't shoot a 450 Marlin using a scope with little eye-relief.
@Toyuzu "Don't shoot a 450 Marlin using a scope with little eye-relief." Yeah! Tell me about it! Blood starts getting all over everything while you're wondering "did that scope hit me?" That's why we have Skinner sights & scout scopes!
@xbones101 That's exactly why. Mine still has the factory sights, and they work fine for me for now. I may eventually go with some sort of ghost ring setup though. Still waiting to get it back from the gunsmith whose had it for the last two years though...
CUUOOOOLL!

You should teach her to lean into the gun a little. Good thing she didn't fall on her butt!

Did she know about the heavy recoil before she shot, or did you pull a dirty trick on the wife?

is this the KGB airstrip? hahaha.

@exile907 Yep, that's the place. The big open area next to it. I have since found out it's illegal to shoot there though, so we no longer go there.

@RockStarmain23 Yeah, she was nervous about that first shot. After that, she shot it several more times. It just surprised her a bit.
