Didn't know about the Kevin McCarthy thing. Personally I like the 78 remake the best even though it came out half a decade before I was born. The 93 one was *yawn*
The ending in the 1978 version of Invasion of the body snatchers came out unexpectidly and was scary beacause I thought the ending was going to be normal
They forgot the 3rd version of,"Invasion of the Body Snatchers".The 1990's remake,"Body Snatchers"('94),starred,R. Lee Ermey("Seven"&"Texas ChainSaw Massacre"remake)and Forest Whitaker("Panic Room"&"Phone Booth").
When that perpetually corny and cheery presenter says "Pod people... with absolutely no personality," it freaks me out. It's like a twist of the plotline of the movies where instead of emotionless drones people become braindead, constantly smiling whitetoothed tv presenters who speak every sentence like they're telling the punchline of a joke. Almost more horrific.
Thanks for your input.... as the perpetually corny and
( happily ) cheery TV presenter - I am amused by your opinion.
... it is an entertainment show we do. To deliver the intro as false gravitas and seriousness... as if it were the evening news, would be even more ridiculous. It is simply a movie !
... as for the constant smiling - I'm a happy guy !
... as for the white teeth - good genes and simple flossing.
However, both me... and my two Emmy awards thank you for your input. God bless.
For such a happy guy, you come off as sounding remarkably snide with this reply.
I enjoyed the clip, and thank you for posting it, but I have say I'm less than impressed with your presentation, now that you've drawn my attention to it here. You come off as quite disinterested and unnappreciative of the content, like you could just as easily be talking about dog food brands and are just going through the motions.
It's doubtful that you'll allow this comment to see the light of day, at the very least perhaps you'll read it.. For some reason your snide response to CyberToad's comment has really struck a nerve with me.
New England Emmys. You won two _regional_ Emmys, which I think you should clarify. Just throwing out the term "Emmy" by itself makes most people think of something _quite_ different than what it is you've actually won; not trying to disparage your awards, though;it just seems dishonest.
Sorry to ruin your expectation of dismissal... but I will allow your comment to remain.
First, I was not "snide" to CyberToad. I responded politely... yet, in kind to his unnecessary personal attack on me. I post videos meant to entertain - the CONTENT is what's important.... not me.
If you don't like ME - don't watch the videos. As for the Emmys - yes, I'm proud of them. Regional Emmys are as distinguished as a national one - as a recognition by one's peers for a job well done. God bless
The 1978 remake blows the 56 version off the screen...and the 56 version is one of the top 3 SF movies of the 50s. Kaufman's reimagining is genuinely frightening, beautifully acted, and directed by a genius. The 1994 and 2007 versions are just meh IMHO.
This look back is terrible, the original wasn't about communist paranoia, because the protaganist is right. It is a warning of the evils of communism, not the paranoia. History vindicated the anti-communists of the day...look at the Alger Hiss trial. Thank God the US won the Cold War...I think if the Soviets would have won there would've been a lot more bloodshed.
Excellent point. I would also say that it doesn't really ring true that the 1978 version was a reflection on Watergate. Watergate was a sloppily run conspiracy within the Executive Branch for political ends. The pod invasion took place from below, i.e., among the general population, and had no political objectives. More likely that the 1978 movie was implicitly commenting on creeping cultural conformity.
Hrm. The 78 remake's allegory was always a little hazy to try and pin down, whereas the original is very much communism/Mcarthyism, and the '93 remake is very clearly about the military.
As for the 70s remake, I always interpreted it as more of a paranoid take on psychiatry--given Leonard Nimoy's character, To say it's "about conspiracy" is kinda overly broad, I think. The entire Body Snatching process is a conspiracy just as much as it is about aliens.
This and original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" are the only invasion movies I know where some people are rooting for the aliens, saying their ideas makes sense.
I've not seen any of these movies, but it sounds like another movie borrowing the main theme has recently come out called "The Visitors" same thing when they fall asleep the alien takes over. Its got Nicole Kidman in it.
I think that the original story, by Jack Finney, is just great, so it makes all the movies, wheater better or worse, worth watching, jaja...i saw them all...and, they all scare the crap out of me, ja.
correction! There are 5 versions of that film. Since the latest and the greatest was just unleashed upon the unsuspecting world population about 1 hr. ago. You can find it on my channel. However, you should view with extreme caution and a security blanket also. I am not liable for any damages which may occur, neither to cognitive functions nor to physical sexual ones. Viewer discretion, indiscretion and a therapeutic session are all advised. So are welders masks.
While the scene at the end where Sutherland tries to destroy a cultivation plant was, I thought, gratuitous and not keeping with the aesthetic, I really liked how the '78 version was filmed. Genuinely dark and creepy. Watched it last night on Halloween.
Thanks for the upload. M. Night Shyamalan said the original was the inspiration for his film, 'The Happening' and know I have a better idea of what he was talking about.
they're just jealous of his glowing white teeth lol, they're whiter than the screen itself :-P

It's funny how we are told that communism was a "big scare" yet if you look around you the proof the communists won is everywhere.

this has nothing to do with commueism anymore, and everything to do with the term, and the very idea of the "masses" and the "sheeple"
everyone who is still asleep is infected, and those who do not aecpt the new ideas coming around will remain so, only to become a pod person.
