These routes are usually found in books (available at REI or wherever) There's always a first ascent for anything, though. With the risks involved i'm sure he wants to be on something that is known to be 'do-able' rather then hitting a crack-less area and having to down climb.

To him, rockclimbing is life......he has far better than a 1 in 2 chance of surviving.......I'd say it's more like 99.5% on something like the climb shown on here. The possibility of an error is always present but I think that outside variables (water, rock breaks, a bird, etc) are the only things that'll derail him.
