Whoah...I remember the spinning washing machine at 1:10 where the floor dropped down and you were pinned to the wall with G force. And that rocket ride that swung around at the end over the water scared the hell out of me. POP was so magical.
Thanks so much for the memories. I was born in 1956 and went there often as a child growing up in Redondo Beach. I remember the entrance to the park as being so exotic and wonderful as a child. The banana boat ride was the best. Loved the spinning tunnel. I remember seeing Wink Martindale there too.
what memories for me. I was born in 58 and my family always went to santa monica beach and many times my mom and i would walk over to POP and spend the day there. I was very young when it closed but always remember going to the beach as a teen and still seeing the remains untli they tore it down for good. What memories!!!

Thanks for the memories! My grandparents who lived on Pico and 14th used to take us on the bus. We would go once every two weeks. What a blast. I graduated from Samohi in 75 and watched it sit for many years until they tore it down. Even then there was a magic about it.
It was a trip to Mars. You sat in seats for the blast-off and landing, and then walked through the rest of the "ride." Very imaginative, indeed. POP also had a diving bell, and quite roller coaster. When it opened, it was Pay One Price: 99 cents! Loved it.
My favorite ride was the Trip to Venus (or was it Mars?) at 2:08. Not only did you blast off, but land on the planet and tour an alien home - then get teleported back to earth! Much cooler I thought than the one at Disneyland.
To Arthur and all the others that commented on the music... The fun house used to blare that song out all day long when I went. It would normally be stuck in my head for several days after each visit. That is why I picked the tune. Certainly not for its easy listening...haha
What a shame to see that end picture.I remember not far from the Merry Go Round there was a booth and you could sing a song and it would make a real record out of what you just sung.
Nice trip through a group of rare good pictures of P.O.P. (I just wished for different music like early Beach Boys, etc. because that ballgame song is so NYC East coast)
Thanks so much for sharing. I loved the slide show. The so-called "buckets" was my favorite ride over the ocean. It brought back many memories. Thanks again. God bless.
That was a great place.
I miss it.

Good memories. I used to love that ride that spun you around and stuck you to the wall... nice to see it here. Lots of good times at POP as a teen.

That is so cool I am so glad that someone wrote in and it was a employee of POP.
Both cars have LIC PIER and LIK PIER I loved POP and the History of the West Side.
The Movie Quicksand shows Lic Pier and Navy Street. and Ocean Park Pier later POP.
