Soto is a really good singer. I was in Bristow, VA for his first live gig with Journey and what he missed in high notes he more than made up for it with his stage presence and vocal ad lib. Once he left it became a Schon ego fest. I saw Journey the next year with Pineda and I couldn't hear him or anyone else just Neal noodling away for two hours.

Only thing that held Soto back was singing for Malmsteen. Being in a more notable LA based band would have catapulted this cat to superstardom. A lot of people were turned off by Yngwie's playing because it didn't lend itself to the casual listener. As a result, Soto's early work went unnoticed by many. Just my .02, but this guy's one of the most underrated singers of his generation.
To each his own, but to mix looks and ability to sing is silly in my opinion. Steve Perry is not the best looking guy, but the voice!
Jeff Scott Soto is an amazing versatile singer and it would have been very interesting to hear what would have come out had he been able to enter a studio with this Journey lineup. That being said, I do prefer his harder material as with Howie Simon on guitar.
Jeff Scott Soto is an amazing singer who has no need to live up to anyone, regardless of what song he is singing. There are very few out there in the industry with his versatility. Neal and Jonathan want to make money, that is the Bottom line. Arnel sounds nice and the new cd is very good, but journey had a real chance to reinvent themselves and walked away from it. I look forward to Jeff's next CD very much, he got some real exposure with the journey tour and I hope more people appreciate how wonderful he is.
Arnel can sing, but he does not have the emotion Steve perry brought to the band. Beaky is right in more ways than one: Jeff was really good for the band. I saw him live at the Sleep Train Theater. He was amazing! I think Cain and Schon still live in the past. And Schon's ego is so massive that he can't stand for anyone to outshine him. Jeff is a gorgeous man and great vocalist. I believe Neal just could not stand that Jeff was not his puppet.

Journey hasn't been Journey in years. Without Perry they are all just tribute singers. JSS is someone they needed to continue to be a great band. Neal Schon didn't pick Jeff to sing for Journey for nothing. He's an amazingly talented singer who's been in the business for a long time. He breathed new life into Journey, IMO. No one is going to do these songs like Perry, and that's a good thing, because no one wants to be labeled a copycat. Jeff does his own thing with the band, and I respect him for that. Can't wait to see them live!

Jss is a great singer . . but no for this style of music . JSS Its a CRAP singing Journry songs . . because of your type of vocal style !!!

you people don't even know what you're talking about. JSS has such a versatile style that he can do Journey and so much more. His own music is exceptional. I realize Steve Perry is one of the best, but he sticks to one main style, which can get boring after a while. Just my opinion.

Yo no estoy de acuerdo con vuestras opiniones. Aunque Steve Perry sea el miembro original de Journey y en muchos aspectos sea imposible superarlo, creo que hoy en día Jeff Scott Soto es el mejor cantante que puede tener este grupo.Caso cerrado.
