i had a manx and i cant tell you how many people asked "what is wrong with you why did you cut off its tail" i just looked at them like 0.0 WTF are stupid ... *facepalm* of course you are
I have a tortie manx we adopted from RBARI, and we had a "stumpy" manx before, also tortoiseshell, that was adopted from Brooklyn. I'm a dog person, but since letting these animals share my house, I have to say I couldn't imagine ever being without a cat around. Simply the best personalities. Smart enough to do tricks and fetch. Loving and sweet.
I don't think I can actually convey how much I recommend owning a manx. Ours was a stray and came to us during the winter. We've had him for 13 years now and I don't know a cat that is more affectionate. He's a snuggler and sleeps like a human, on his back head on a pillow, right next to your when you sleep.
@bubsadoozy I agree. My manx is the sunshine of my life. He makes me laugh and he is the most affectionate cat I have ever seen. He actually gives kisses like a dog.
The lady wasn't lying they are extremely friendly with other animals. He plays with my parents' 2 50+ pound dogs whenever I go home.
I think i found a Manx cat but i can't tell its grey and plushy and it has no tail but i can't figure out what happens with the tail if it was severed or its Manx
I have a Tuxedo Manx Cat, with a teeny little stub. She's such a great cat, I recommended Manx's to anyone who is looking for a cat that is loving, but fun!
omg =D my vet said my cat was a manx but seeing these cats and how similar they are its so cute =D my cat has that bunny hop too more when she was a kitten now she only hops with her back legs when she is running
I was out doing yardwork yesterday and a little black kitten with no tail came up and started following me around came right into the house with me so we took it in it was starved to death but the tail thing didn't seem to bother her I don't know what happened to the tail I'm very curious. I don't think it was born that way but it doesn't seem to mind or notice that it doesn't have a tail. I just hope that it hasn't experienced some type of trauma that could cause health problems ill get a vet
I come from the Isle Of Man, and we actually dont have much manx cat breeders here.. You hardly ever see them here too cuz of the TT - people keep most of their cats as house cats so they dont get run over by all the bike racing we have over here!
My Manx meows a lot and loves to chase my other cat. My other one hates my Manx. And she's the runt of the litter, even though she's fully grown, she's fairly small.
MAN X IS THE BEST CAT ,I HAVE OVER 25 CATS IN MY LIFE TIME AND MAN X IS LOVELY,PLAYFULL,SERENE,CLEAN,FUNNY,GET ALONE SO WELL WITH MY CHILDREN AND NEVER COMPLAINS ABOUT EATING.
I own a Manx cat for a little over a year now, and I must say out of all the cats I've owned over the years, the Manx is the BEST!!! I heard someone say they are "a dog in a cat's body," They were right! If I should ever get another cat one day, it will definitely be another Manx.
I'm aiding a cat that got his tail ripped off... How the hell do I care for him because I have no clue is it was too far up the base and if I should be worried about nerve damage of not. I'll touch a part of his spine and his leg will twitch. I've been doing my best at avoiding infection and keeping the would clean, but I don't know if he'll heal with out nerve damage.
If you still have the cat, take her to a shelter, and tell them its not yours. They will either get it vet care, or euthanize it, depending on its condition. Its the right thing to do.
I live in the Isle of Man and was so shocked when I came across this video. I had no idea there were so many manxies in America... wow! Unfortunately, I think the manx cat is in decline here as you don't see as many as you used to... shame.
Manx cats are so cool. My cat "Buddy" was just that, my buddy. He was also very smart and protective of my female American domestic cat "Amber." Any one who has never owned a Manx would not understand how much personality they have. If you owned one then you would always want one around. They are AWESOME !!!!!!
It's kinda weird that alot of the attributes... uh... attributed to manx cats by this video are true of just about all cats.
For instance all cat breeds are keen hunters, if given the opportunity. And of course a cat is going to be content with staying inside if it's never been outside before--it doesn't know what an outside is.
Although Cabbit Kit-ta's the"Complex Cat", he's moved in w/me & my boyfriend. He opens our door & comes in/out, at will. He goes outside every few hrs. to relieve himself & do "whatever kitties do". When he's done he'll open the door or meows to be let in. Such a "polite house-guest". Never had an accident in the house & doesn't really shed (just "freaky soft"). He drinks from the toilet or from the sink when the water's left on, water will just pour over and drench his head & he loves it!!
He's wiped out the mouse population single paw-edly. When he catches one he'll toss it about 2 ft into the air, then whacks it into the air again w/baseball mitt sized paws. He'll play this game, for a while without missing,So fascinating to watch. He'll also bolt out the front door, run about 25 ft. straight up this tree. Then starts to bat at things only he can see/hear. The amazing thing about this is,his original owner (I guess)declawed this beautiful boy(barbarians!!) &neutered him.
The adorable Manx kitty that's recently come into my life, was a stray. The vet says he's 6-8 years old.I live in a 16 unit apt. & he's befriended almost every tenants. Each day he visits each apt. Even cat haters love him.He is "freaky soft" & looks just like a rabbit from behind as he hops away. Each tenant has a different name for him. To me, he's Cabbit Kit-ta. We can't have pets but he is such an efficient hunter that the owner said he could stay...
Our Manx is 13 yrs old...what an exceptional cat she has been. Intelligent, low maintenance, gentle and very in-tune to human emotions....when your feeling mad, sad, low or in pain, these cats will crowd you until they feel they have made you better...and oh yeah as usual they are bent on letting you know that they own you, not the other way around.
My Mandy the Manx is not fixed. He "KNEADS" for 30 minutes at a time, up to four times a day, which is great exercise. If I fix him he will probably stop. His pee is stinky, and he likes to pee on a towel or rug about once every three weeks, just to keep me on alert. If I leave something like a bag of trash, or a laundry basket out of place sitting at the back door, for more than 4 hours, he pees on it, and it goes away.
My Mandy the Manx is not fixed. He "KNEADS" for 30 minutes at a time, up to four times a day, which is great exercise. If I fix him he will probably stop.
I used to own a gray manx. He had a stubby tail & was hyper as hell. Destroyed everything. Ran away though. It was my best friend, I want another one.
We had one when I was a kid. It would actually compete with the dog to chase and retrieve sticks we threw for them. Didn't much like the soggy tennis balls though.
my cat is a manx but she is very mean and generally hates people despite the love and affection (and food) we give her.
when we first got her, she was a kitten who survived getting hit by a car and her head was really swollen. i think she got brain damage or was tramatized, poor crack cat (her name). shes so nutty!
she sees dead people and invisible things and she always runs into walls head-first. shes really entertaining XD
I have a manx, its more like a dog than a cat lol it will follow me like a dog begg for food like a dog attitude of a dog,but its by far the best cat iv ever had :):)
I miss my little manx cat.....I was a huge fan of the anime Gundam Wing and my little tom cat looked like a preacher (black with white markings) so I named him Duo Manxwell. A few years ago he went off courting and hasn't returned
I had the most gorgeous Manx cat, Kamir. She was a stray. She was so lovable and docile and the best hunter I've ever seen. Sadly, two weeks ago, some coyotes got her. All other cats now just look weird with tails.
@ThatGirlInTheFadora not at all. i had a manx cat that survived A LOT. eventually we had to put her to sleep when she was 16 years old because of her cancer :( but she was the best cat i've ever had!!
They didn't mention how "dog-like" the Manx is at all! I'm surprised. Cute video, though. My Manx is only half Manx, but in personality, she's almost ALL, ha ha. I wish she had the "bunny hop"--even so, I call her my little bunny all of the time because of her tiny frame, bitty nose and sooty, fluffy little paws! :)
Yes, we have a small tabby manx. There is no dog that will come into our yard, more than once. She engages the dogs to chase her, and she runs up a tree about 4 - 5 feet, and then when the dog gets there, she jumps on the dogs back and starts pulling fur. The dog tries to roll over to get her off, so she jumps off, and waits till the dog stands up again. She jumps back on, and repeats the process until the dog has had enough and then she chases them out of the yard. Amazing.
@CyJoZa i have one too he is black and white and big! i love him so much also he is so smart one time he walked like a mile to the house he lived at before we got him then we got him back lol
@CyJoZa i have one too he is black and white and big! i love him so much also he is so smart one time he walked like a mile to the house he lived at before we got him then we got him back lol he was gone and we couldnt find him for over 24 hours last halloween but he came back thank god
We have a tailess cat but it isn't a Manx. It's a genetic throwback. Grandma cat had a kink in her tail. One of her kittens was born with half a tail and one of her kittens (our cat) was born with no tail
i found a litter of three in my backyard, my neighbor has three and one in pregnated one and it had them under my belair, and he didn't want hem so i kept one male and one female, and gave the other male to my gramma, and i love them both, the male is a jiant, weighs 22pounds and aint fat, just big, and the female is normal sized, both are very sweet
depends on where you're getting it from. i'd imagine that they're a bit more expensive from a breeder. you might be able to find them cheaper if someone has a manx cat and isn't a breeder. i'm getting one! right now it's only a couple weeks old, so it'll be a few weeks. but i'm getting him for free! i'm so excited!
i had a cat like that ricky. he was all black and the only one in the litter to have a stub of a tail. he was a semi outdoor cat and one night he just never came home so im guessing like a wolf ate him or something. he was the softest cat in alllll the land! but he was an asshole and didnt let you pet him. RIP riggy!
My Manx is a year old and I call him my "mad scientist." I've had cats all my life and I know that they are smart, but he figures stuff out that even cats shouldn't - like how to unlock doors and turn on the bathtub faucet. He has definitely taken over my house. But he's cute and he knows it. Definitely a lot of fun to have around. LOL
My manxie thinks he is a squirrel! xD He is tiny but bullies all of the other cats in the neighbourhood. He also eats candles and rabbit food :D
Trivia: Manx cat breeders have to introduce a tailed cat every 3rd generation or the kittens are liable to be born with the genetic disorder associated with the mutation, commonly known as Manx Syndrome!
Great informative video! I have a rumpy! I adopted her recently cos she was living locked up in a laundry most of the time! Now she a happy, loving lil kitty with a whole house to run around. She does the bunny hop, so cute
I love my Manx, but I must admit sometimes he is too smart for his own good. Sometimes he finds himself in places that only I can get him back out of. And forget about keeping a door close, he will always figure out a way to open it!
manx cats fear nothing especially dogs, very intelligent, affectionate and very funny, and they will play just like a dog, they follow you every where, very few health problems, i had a queen manx cat, she was great.
my manx is the best!!!!!!! he soo smart..and his personality is to die for! he is very clever too! and has the cutest little stubby tail..that looks like a rabbits tail. I often tell people I got his tail stuck in the door and it fell off..LOL I get a good chuckle.
Wow! The clown cat! Makes perfect sense! Does anyone notice their Manx has huge feet? Mine even has kind of webbed feet and makes lots of noise stomping around the house.
I LOL'ed when they said Manx where the "clown cats" because a few years back one used to come by my apartment and he was such an outgoing, clonwish type of cat! He was beautiful, had that round, puffy cheeked face, and no tail of course. God, I miss him!
I'm surprised this show didn't mention that Manx cats have dog-like personalities. They can easily learn to fetch and will come when called. They can also jump higher than any other breed of cat.
I have a full-blooded, jet black Manx, named Meek. She is my first Manx, I shall never have any other breed from now on. She has no flaws, just a purrfect little sweetie pie. She has brought such a joy to my life.
I too have a Manx and have had Manx cats for over 20 years. Wouldn't have anything else. They have such personalities and attitude. Mine owns the house and keeps my jack russell in line too.My current Manx is 9 and she has a lot of get up and go still in her. They never loose that fun personality.
Me 2 i have a manx too. They are nice and loving creatures :D All she said was True the loss of a tail doesn t mean a loss of personality. My cat haS A APERSONALITY HILAROUS . And She opens doors and objects.:D
I have a manx kitty too ^_^ He's ultra smart, and speaks when spoken to. He always greets me at the door when I come home, and he comes when I whistle (or call his name). I also taught him "sit" and to stand on his hind legs and reach for treats (only when I ask him to). I love how their personalities are so easy to read and you can tell what they want by how they act or meow, and also how they learn so fast!
The story is as the dog was begging for meat from the butcher, the cat wanted some to, so he walked into the butchers shop and the butcher raised his meat hacker and chopped the cats tail right off. The Manx cat never went back. Or theres the noahs ark story, where noah called all the animals onto the boat. The Manx cat ignored him because he was chasing a mouse. When the door of the ark was closing the mouse ran in and the cat just got through. He looked down and his tail was gone....
lol itsso funny the way you call it a manx im from ramsey in the isle of man i 'm as manx as they come, those cats are manx cats, when yous say' youve got a manx, that could be reffering to anything from the isle of man so in may native tongue(manx) Slane lhiat. Slane lhiu witch in english means goodbye
My cat is a tabby. But he got in an accident when he was a kitten and broke his tail. Tail had to be amputed and now he looks like a manx. He's a good hunter and his tail doesn't get in the way so people won't step on it. (We don't know how his tail was broken, but we didn't step on it.)
I have one of these near my Grandma's house. we named it Num Num Boggims because of how it looks when it eats. its actually quit cute, because we'll go 'meow' and then it will wait a second and then the hair on its little rump will stand up and it'll close it's eyes and go Meow! ^_^
I had 3 generations of black manx. All of them had a mean dispostion. They all had super long rear legs. They were father, son and grandson. The father was overall the meanest, My buddy picked him up for the 1st time, looked him eye to eye, and said, "I'm putting this f'ing thing down! I don't like that wicked look in his eye's!"
They were all named "6". And yup, I had 3 of them! The father was a total stray that I fed bologna everyday until he finally trusted me enough to pick him up.
I've grownin up with tons of manx cats. The three we have now Are Bob and motu both are stumpy's and Pheobe who had a tailed brother with six toes is a rumpy and enjoy's hanging out and playing with my two dogs rather than the other cats.

All other cats now just look weird with tails.

how long do Manx live? I hear they have a lot of spine problems that give them an average of 3 years of life.
ThatGirlInTheFadora 2 years ago
@ThatGirlInTheFadora not at all. i had a manx cat that survived A LOT. eventually we had to put her to sleep when she was 16 years old because of her cancer :( but she was the best cat i've ever had!!

They didn't mention how "dog-like" the Manx is at all! I'm surprised. Cute video, though. My Manx is only half Manx, but in personality, she's almost ALL, ha ha. I wish she had the "bunny hop"--even so, I call her my little bunny all of the time because of her tiny frame, bitty nose and sooty, fluffy little paws! :)

CyJoZa 2 years ago 31
@CyJoZa
Amazing.

We have a tailess cat but it isn't a Manx. It's a genetic throwback. Grandma cat had a kink in her tail. One of her kittens was born with half a tail and one of her kittens (our cat) was born with no tail

how much does a manx cat cost?
pasaratas61 2 years ago
depends on where you're getting it from. i'd imagine that they're a bit more expensive from a breeder. you might be able to find them cheaper if someone has a manx cat and isn't a breeder. i'm getting one! right now it's only a couple weeks old, so it'll be a few weeks. but i'm getting him for free! i'm so excited!

my mother had a tailess manx her name was "pebbles" she was an indoor cat, kind of a scaredy cat but she lived till she was 21 years old.
Natturner35 2 years ago
i had a cat like that ricky. he was all black and the only one in the litter to have a stub of a tail. he was a semi outdoor cat and one night he just never came home so im guessing like a wolf ate him or something. he was the softest cat in alllll the land! but he was an asshole and didnt let you pet him. RIP riggy!
mikekrause2000 2 years ago
My Manx is a year old and I call him my "mad scientist." I've had cats all my life and I know that they are smart, but he figures stuff out that even cats shouldn't - like how to unlock doors and turn on the bathtub faucet. He has definitely taken over my house. But he's cute and he knows it. Definitely a lot of fun to have around. LOL
artwitch27 2 years ago
My manxie thinks he is a squirrel! xD He is tiny but bullies all of the other cats in the neighbourhood. He also eats candles and rabbit food :D
Trivia: Manx cat breeders have to introduce a tailed cat every 3rd generation or the kittens are liable to be born with the genetic disorder associated with the mutation, commonly known as Manx Syndrome!
MediaVampire 2 years ago
I will agree about the Manx cats being good hunters, they are agressive buggers.
Kayt or kiyt (plural) are a good moggie but I have scars to prove their aggression.
Don't bother arguing because I come from the IOM.
magglyn 2 years ago
I'm from the Isle of Man too! :)
Yes my cat used to go mental if he saw certain colours and scratch everything but his claws arent very sharp...
As for being hunters, my friend's manxie often kills and eats whole seagulls!! So you are right ;P

manx cats fear nothing especially dogs, very intelligent, affectionate and very funny, and they will play just like a dog, they follow you every where, very few health problems, i had a queen manx cat, she was great.

Wow! The clown cat! Makes perfect sense! Does anyone notice their Manx has huge feet? Mine even has kind of webbed feet and makes lots of noise stomping around the house.
mirandarulz 3 years ago
I LOL'ed when they said Manx where the "clown cats" because a few years back one used to come by my apartment and he was such an outgoing, clonwish type of cat! He was beautiful, had that round, puffy cheeked face, and no tail of course. God, I miss him!

I'm surprised this show didn't mention that Manx cats have dog-like personalities. They can easily learn to fetch and will come when called. They can also jump higher than any other breed of cat.
