  • i was a huge fan of her's especially, " i got a attitude". CLASSIC, when you had to have actual talent to get a record deal, not like these youngsters today

  • never heard of her

  • They all came from Hurby's beats and rhymes

  • i wonder what shes doing these days? lady b has alot of shows, why not get her to restart her career?

  • kane wrote alot of her stuff, if you have heralbums or tape..look at the credits..it says "written by antonio hardy"

  • Antoinette is sexy

  • Antoinette was one of the best and definitely one of the most underrated female rappers of that era. I personally preferred her over Lyte, but that's just my opinion, which we're all entitled to.

  • she's ok in her own way but I thought her rhyming was weaker than MC Lyte's.

Where is this chick these days? She quit rapping after MC Lyte shut her down didn't she

  • Wasn't one of her producers or dj's the writers of her rhymes.. well that automatically excludes from being a female emcee

  • @MsKwan09 don't be so cynical her voice, flow and delivery is way beyond her time truly one of the best female artist of all time, unless you know for a fact that so one else wrote her rhymes don't speak on it you never know the creative process in the studio. It's truly impossible for her to sound so amazing if she couldn't rhyme for herself, just think about that for a second please

  • MC LYTE WAS GOOD AT BEING FAMOUS, but Antoinette's songs had better pure rap performances hands down. I personally liked the vibe of Antoinette's videos more than the vibe of anything MC Lyte ever did. MC Lyte was overrated.

  • @CunnilyngusDelight Come on man! Please go sit in a dark room with whatever relaxes you and listen to MC Lyte's first two albums & get back to me on that. I like Antoinette she's hip-hop (golden era) but it's male MCs that couldn't flow with MC Lyte! 10% dis put Antoinette out of the game!

  • she was good but hell nah she was not better tha MC LYTE

  • Probably the best lyrical female MC ever.I hav`nt heard this song in such along time that i forgot she existed lol.True classic, thanks for the post.

  • WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT?!

Better than LYTE! Get the fuck outta here & have your head examined! I cram to over stand how any mf can say that! As cute as this was LYTE was ALWAYS @ the top of her game! She's the undisputed Queen of Rap. I think those who are saying that ant gave Lyte the business are either relatives of her's or maybe ant herself?

LYTE has longevity b/c her style never was monotonous!

Who the fuck even knows of any antoinette these days?

How many albums did she ever make?

    PLEASE!

  • She's one of my alltime favourite female MC's... I prefer the album version of this song... This version doesnt sound raw.. I miss the dope drumbeats..

  • antoinette was a beast her flow is unmatched, beside kim

  • I'm sorry but MC LYTE is the BEST female rapper of all time hands down.. I like Antoinette, I Love Latifah and Salt n Pepa but LYTE is a BEAST ON THE MIC.

  • This was one of the few records that was totally her idea even we wrote it.lol

  • all black people have a great gift about them but we so ready to war until we blind i love all good music i write music and my kid's but when we see how it cost so many death and bull shit i don't even put them out there for tha world to judge y'all so shallow

  • Dang, I was hoping this was the album version...it was much better than this one.

  • I like her but she took on MC Lyte. I sure yall know waht happen but she had guts. and is just ask good an Mcs out there.

  • LIL KIM SALUTED ANTOINETTE. SHE INSPIRED KIM.

  • sick, glad to have seen this

  • I really miss these women of hip hop.. Antoinette, Finesse & Synquis, Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte, Sweet Tee, Sistah Soulja these sistas had respect for themselves.... smiling @ 2:47 - 2:49 they were getting down.

  • I know ya'll must be joking... Antoinette was no where near Rakim's level.. what, are ya'll smokin the crack rock? Man, Lyte demolished the so called 'Gangstress'.. If ya'll remember, on WBLS 106.5, even Big Daddy Kane at the time had to give Lyte her props, when he was formely giving shoutouts to Antoinette, because he KNEW!!!!

  • This girl was RAW and I miss her battles with MC Lyte, rap was fun back then, but now it's crap. But on the real tip, ANYBODY who says Antoinette beat Lyte is smokin' crack. That's like saying MOE D BEAT LL, NOW YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM!

  • @musiqgem yes

  • @bernieb07 If you prefer Lyte's style, so be it but stop saying Lyte ran Ant out of business.10% Dis came out in '88, Shut The Eff Up in '89. Ant put out her 2nd lp in '90 so apparently she still had a career going but didn't get the respect she deserved but she is BADASS! Amongst the pioneers in the biz, Moe D is considered right behind Melle Mel & Grandmaster Caz so as a true battle emcee he was said to be light yrs ahead of LL it's just that L made better records on wax & then came the $

  • @musiqgem Mc Lyte did Murk Antoinette. Just like 50 did to Ja Rule. It was a wrap for antoinette. That's just plain out fact. No if's and's or buts about it. Antoinette gets no respect from me because she didn't write her diss track, it was written by kool moe dee.

  • @Mz2muchx Antoinette must get some respect from you because you watched this video! Lyte's brothers the Audio Two co-wrote all of her songs. No female rappers ever wrote all their own raps except for Lauryn Hill, the rest of them always have help male ghost writers.

  • @musiqgem SMH. Where is the proof that Audio Two Co Wrote all Lytes songs? Don't make up lies for no reason because you believe antoinette is better then lyte. So you saying Salt n Pepa, Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shante, Sweet Tee NEVER wrote their own rhymes? Wow how old are you? SMH.

  • @Mz2muchx Making up lies? How old am I? Hon, you just barked up the wrong tree. I lived & worshipped this era & every name you mentioned was notorious for having ghost writers! Where the hell were you? Just look at Lyte's discography for the Lyte As A Rock lp on "Discogs.com" & you'll see under the credits written by Audio Two & King Of Chill. There's your proof! I also listened to Chubb Rock interview Milk Dee on the radio last year & he confirmed that. But wait, I'm not finished with you yet!

  • @Mz2muchx Yes, none of them wrote their rhymes! Big Daddy Kane wrote Shante's & Biz Markie's rhymes. He was the in-house ghost writer for those two, like I said check the credits. Hurby Luv Bug (Sweet Tee's producer & Salt's boyfriend at the time) wrote & produced all of their stuff. And last, All Hail The Queen but sorry she had needed help to. La co-wrote with her producer Mark The 45 King & others from The Flavor Unit. Apache (of Gangsta Bitch fame) wrote numerous joints for her by himself.

  • @Mz2muchx You gotta be kidding me, you got any more names to throw at me? Next you'll try & tell me that Lil' Kim & Foxy Brown wrote their raps too, & if you play yourself & mention Nicki Minaj's name in this conversation then I won't even respond. But besides Lauryn Hill, I'll also add Left Eye as a solo writer.

  • @musiqgem Irrelevant. BEEF I'm talking about beef, but Yet you STILL haven't answer the question lol....Keep ignoring the fact that Beef rhymes written.

  • @Mz2muchx If you read all of my messages I sent to you, then you'll see where to look for your proof! Read the other 3 messages I sent, don't half ass on me & then talk shit READ READ READ. Seek & you shall find!

  • @musiqgem I don't need to read 15 essays about what you "THINK". I've lived through the this era and I already Know the history hun. YOU on the other hand should use this tool called "GOOGLE" and research the word beef and see how many rappers wrote their OWN beefs and settled their OWN shit instead of getting a hand out from others. #FAIL. This is my last and ONLY comment on this matter. Antoinette got bodied and Career was ended at the end of the day.

  • @Mz2muchx And since you don't give NOBODY credit for being a skilled MC if they didn't write their own bars, then it really is "Lights Out" for Lana! She didn't even write her own verse on Self Destruction, so you continue to shake your head until it falls off cause I know all about the golden era, (check the screen name) & can back up my statements!

  • @musiqgem Correction. Lyte CO WROTE self destruction along with LL cool J. But the difference here is, Lyte WROTE her own diss track, Antoinette did not. I give artist credit when credit is due but I won't give them brownie points for shit when it comes to beef which is apart of HipHop Culture. You can't even back up all your pathetic claims and Im talking about BEEF as I stated before. And you call yourself having golden era Knowledge...What in insult. SMH.

  • Many people Slept on Antoinette! Her skills reminded me of the Great RaAllah Sorry Lyte you are one of the Greatest! But As for me I have Always been more of Antoinette fan. Da'quan Shamel Allah

  • no joke i recorded this video on this show this day lol wow

  • "We can do this"- Antoinette

Girls use to say that all the yime in the 80's.

  • KIMSUN

    tHNx

  • This must be the remix..I wanted this single

  • Wow! Small world. I just thought of Antoinette tonight, I guess because I ordered sicilian on this snowy night. We grew up on the same block in the Bronx and used to be in and out of each other's houses. They say she's from Queens so I guess that's where she moved after we were kids. She was the ONLY person I ever knew who ordered her slices well done and til this day that's still how I order mine. Gotta look her up. My fav song was I Got An Attitude.

  • @PatriciaNixon yeah she a boogie down bx girl Patricia!!, 228st!! white plains rd!!, De Witt Clinton H.S.!!

  • gorgeous sister!!!!

  • Wow i got chills hearing Ralph McDaniels in the beginning with the intro

  • shes making a comeback :) antoinetterapps is her myspace name

  • Rap today makes me THROW UP!My kids have never heard anything from 93 - up. :) , Oh , they make A's and don't get in trouble.

  • @loneman247 those are some good flicks, dont forget Cofee, the education of Sonny Carson, Cooley High, a hero aint nothin but a sandwhich, and one of my personal favorites Let's do it again

  • @missteek08 its some more mc's check for Tiye Phoenix,Stahhr, and Mamma Sol out of Detroit. And they are all dope.

  • Hey thats me dancing! This was such a fun time in life!

  • Under rated.

  • Antoinette could rap better than half of these clowns that are out now!!LOL

  • Antoinette deserves a greatest hits CD. Come on record companies what you waiting 4?

  • 80'a nd 90's was the best for hip hop and rap because it was still new.

  • WOW,and look....nobody really cares about your negative response! Dude, all you had to do was watch,if you didn't like it,move on! You are "Lone" ly indeed!

  • Regardless of what needed knowledge I displayed to expose this "rainbow" colored video here - as well as your comment in calling me "Lone ly indeed", still, Antoinette was one of the finest looking female rappers I've seen in rap videos ... as well as being one of fiercest female rappers of her day ... if she "indeed" wrote them lyrics herself. Antoinette got it going on

  • This was how men dressed back in those days. And by the look of a video, you wanna say that this is how "Gay Dudes" got their foot hold in the rap game???

I don't see anything wrong with that at all! A persons sex preference has nothign to do with the music! Sounds like you got some issues with the Gay community! That's sad.But you know what, people don't care what you think anyway, lol! You might not like what's going on,but too bad! Live with it,cuz that's they way it's gonna be!!!

  • @datkoolbrutha Yeah for sure there's something wrong with non-black folk gaining higher ground in the sole purposes of hip-hop! Raps in our songs began as media, news and spirituality to keep poor (blacks & latinos) ready and positioned in their OWN plights. It was greedy Corporate European Caucasian scoundrels that tainted hip-hop's needed intentions! And YES, a MAJORITY of those who control "hip-hop" etc. are "indeed" homosexual satanists. AND Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Ralph Lauren etc. are dogs

  • loneman247 WOW,lol! You seem to have alot of hostility.Dude, you need to just get with the times.I truly doubt ANYBODY cares about anything you say, lol! WHen you waste time with bullshit like that, you get nowhere!

Everyone else is here enjoying the video clip, and you go from calling the dudes in this video Gay to talking about clothes designers being dogs,LMAO!

this isn't the 90s anymore, lol! That Black power shit has be gone since then.People have grown up.I suggest, you do the same!

  • @datkoolbrutha The denial and neglect of "That Black power shit" is gonna get many of you passively weak minded "black men" RIPPED! Nah, I ain't got "alot of hostility" in me! It's simply having concern for my lost people who are deaf, dumb & blind. Westernized ideologies (as homosexuality & woman's liberation etc.) destroys Afro-Asiatic cultures. Take a good look at the news as well as around you. The rise of Militia hate groups is real! When did standing on the watchtower become a crime?

  • LMAO!

Your a funny dude! Well....good luck on your travels! i'm pretty sure there's ONE person on this eart,or more that will bother to listen to your preaching, lmao! In the meantime, the rest of us will enjoy this video from back in the day,and move on from here. You sound like you can talk a good talk, but,it won't get you anywhere,HA HA HA!

  • you wanna see a real cool brutha? watch Fred Williamson do his thing in his 70's hero cinema flicks...Black Caesar, Hell Up In Harlem, The Legend of Nigger Charlie and Three The Hard Way...among many

  • LMAO,Yeah ok! Like I said, your a funny dude. Thanks for making me laugh! Helped me get though driving through NYC traffic with a smile, lol! good jokes, good jokes!!!!!!!

  • ANd also, styles were different back then, and different now. There was nothing wrong with flat top haircuts,or anything they was wearing back then! It was a part of Hip-Hop history. You sound like a borderline fute hate crime offender, lol!

But you know what,if so,good luck on that!

  • @loneman247 Trust me homos been in the game long before a Antoinette video. I mean look at Flash and Melle Mel in the early 80's rockin leather and harnesses...the influence is there WE have and have had the industry on lock for awhile. I bet your top 10 favorite rappers are even SUSPECT!

  • @boriquacub76 I respect your comment! You have a very strong point there and I don't disagree with you in that. Better it came from you and not me this time. I'm already hated for expressing myself in here. Yes, the west village may have been a big influence on the "old school" rappers of the early 80's. I really liked the lyrical skills of L.L. Cool J and Big Daddy Kane. But like you said...."they too can be suspect.

  • this video was sooo much fun to shoot. it was done in my backyard pool. that's me in the pink swimsuit on the float & kicking on the side of the pool. does ANYONE know where Antoinette is now??? shout out to Classic Concept... the film company who did many of our videos back then.

  • Cool. I'm still trying to find out what she's up to these days. Wow Classic Concept, was that Lionel C Martin's company?

  • yep...him & ralph mcdaniels

  • @BDizzleNY06 yeah that was lionell and Uncle ralph mcdaniels!! they should be credited for helping bring rap where it is today!!!, way before bet and mtv!! glad u got a grasp on some history!!! and some names behind the scenes homie!!

  • @princessivori hi.. i really liked this video. Are you still in the business? Where is Antoinette these days?

  • @sg29 i'm actually in radio & have been for 15 years now....so i guess i am still in the business. i'd love to know where antoinette is too.

  • @princessivori You would not happen to be the Princess ivori The sistah who came out with the hip-hop single "Wanted"? I LOVED that single...I was never able to find it or wonder what your name was because for some reason every time VJ Ralph mcDaniels always announced the artist/song I could not clearly understand him over the music. lol, Big ups to you sistah!

  • @princessivori ya and thats me in the black swimsuit

  • @princessivori wow!!! hey princess!! its fat doug!, i been looking for anni for a while now!! myself!, i saw her a few yrs back and lost contact again! but she was doing good!! last i heard!

  • @princessivori Last I heard she is involved in the church now. In fact its a church in the bronx.

  • So much potential, reminds me of Erica Yancey and Zakiya.

    Shame, Shame.

  • Shawty here was nice but Lyte wrecked that azz!

  • Beautiful black women, before the weave and excessive beyonce Rhihanna makeup took over. "In this Rap game you are a reject so make like a tape and eject."

  • Man..........I love me some Antoinette. She definately one of the best girls out back in day. Unfortunately Lyte had more leverage in the game, but poor management and bad business decesions killed Antoinette. But she definately battled for the blood. They both had tight raps. TO THIS DAY, my favorite 2 female rap recvords are I got an attitude and 10%dis. They both were lethal. Antoinette was defithe female Rakim. I wish people gave her a chance to grow, and I wish Hurby didn't fuck her over

  • THATS SO DAMN TRUE, MOST OF THE FEMALE RAPPERS Were Even Lucky Too Put Out More Than 1 Singles, Or Even Make A Album & Have Videos. Hurby Did Fuck Her Over, He Was Too Bust Makin Money From S-N-P. &&& I Still Think Antoinette WON, Lyte Only One Because Of Favoritism.

  • Didn't Hurb also have Jazzy Joyce and Fresh Tee? Her career fizzled too, despite having tight rhymes.

  • I Don't Think He Had Jazzy Joyce Fresh Tee I Don't Know.

  • You're right. It was Sweet Tee and Jazzy Joyce.

  • YEAH SWEET TEE, Know She Had Left Profile. Theres An Interview Where She Talks About It on Here.

  • @TroyRamseyyy HURB DID NOT MESS HER CAREER UP HOMIE!!, THATS A BIG FALSE RUMOR!! SHE HAD BAD FOLKS THAT GOT IN HER EAR THAT NEVER CARED ABOUT HER!!, SHE DIDN'T LISTEN TO MYSELF OR HURBY!!, AND COTRACTUALLY WE HAD NO SAY SO!!, AND WERE NOT ALLOWED TO CONTINUE WITH MAKING HER A STAR!!, GOT AN ATTITUDE , HIT EM WIT THIS, UNFINISHED BIZ!!, WAS THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG!! WE HAD HITT FOR HER!! AND LYTE GONNA GET A BIGGER RESPONSE!! BUT HER MANAGER WAS SCARED FACTS ONLY

  • @dwessproductions for my own reasons i will say thank you homie for the compliments!!!! and yeah anni was really being put in a position to be great for the rap biz!!, but management as u said and bad choices being made!!!. but i really gotta clear this up!!, Hurby was not in control of her career AT ALL!!!, he did NOT fuck her over!!! AT all, this is a BIG false rumor attached to her career!! if hurb was in charge she would have been LARGE!!

  • Nogar you better tell dude whats up with ant. He still sleeping 20 years later. I been f*cking with ant since 87. Wayyyy before word up magazine and source magazine started call her all that female rakim bullshit. Even though it was true. Remember Nogar that these are some of the same brainwashed idiots who still think Michael Jackson better than Prince, Michael Jordan better than Scottie Pippen, Biggie better than Tupac, and Nelly better than KRS1. Once a fool always a fool. Esoteric Info...

  • Didn't MC Lyte kill her off back in the day, lol, Monk....

  • All of this went down befo weave

  • lol

  • Antoinette the greatest ever. I met MC LYTE in 1990 and told her and I ran into Lyte a couple a months ago and told her again in her face. Lyte just laughed because she knew A.N.T. gave her the business. My son laughed when I asked MC Lyte who won that battle. Female Rakim for real no jizz-oak.

    South Boogie Forever

  • herbie love bug again doing his thing.

  • I. G. Off's freestyle move @ 2:10 is ill!!

  • She was a master.

  • I miss tha poka dots lol

  • Comment removed

  • i don't remember this chick

  • The white boy in the video is Kid Rock. I had a crush on Antoinette back in the day. She was fine.

  • hah sure is yo!

    Grits sandwiches for breakfast days

  • LOL

  • I taped this exact video from Video Music Box lol!, oh the White dude at about 1:18 & 1:38 that's "Kid Rock."

  • yo i had a wild crush on her back in da day

  • yo peace to temp and kemp in this video!

  • I'VE BEEN LOOKIN FOR THIS JOINT FOR YEARS!!!

    Thanks!!!

  • "They can't find me" 2:22sec...sampled by Masta Ace in "U can't find me" for his 1995 album Sittin on Chrome.

    :-)

  • Thanks for posting this vid. Word id bond I've been trying to find this. That was my shit.

  • You're welcome.

  • I agree she was the female Rakim back then but her second album was garbage!

  • A Classic man. I got this on vynl lol. Shes the female rakim her lyrics are fresh and raw. I hate hip hop now i miss this shit. She might of lost to Lyte but only just this girl would kill all the female mc's out there today LOL.

  • Yeah I can't think of any current female emcee who has a flow this serious. Come to think of it, where are all the female rappers? LOL.

  • well, CALLUMBROWNS, i dont know how u can possibly miss this type hiphop, because youre profile says that youre 18 years old, so that means u was born in 1990, & this battle with LYTE & ANTONETTE was in the late 80's early 90's, lol, so u couldnt possibly know what the hell was happenin at that time, lol. & as for today's female emcees, well REMI MA is a beast on the mike, & she can fuck with anybody, its ashame that she gotta do 8 years in jail tho :( :(

  • it's funny u mention Rem she always to me had the swagger and raw attitude that Antoinette possesed...she definitely would be the heir to An's throne as far as the new breed of current chicks.

  • remy ma is hard as fuck

  • WORD!

  • Your right! I just don't understand the thumbs down you recieved for your comment. That goes to show you, that alot of young kids, think they know it all about Hip-Hop from back then.I bet you most of these little kids here don't know exactly what year her album came out, lol!

  • Omg...........it's been almost 20 yrs since this video. We had so much fun making it. Am the girl standing by I.G. Off by the tree in the pool scene. Cant believe the haircuts and colors we had in them back in the day lol.

  • SHe was my favorite her flow was da illest it's just too bad that she didn't write her own shit..antoinette-hurby luv bug

    lil' kim-biggie

    foxy brown-jAY-Z

roxannne shante -big daddy kane & kool g. rap

    j.j. fad-dr.dre & cube

  • Wow that's a newsflash for me regarding Antoinette and Roxanne Shante. I was aware of the other rappers.

  • Co-sign yeah both Antoinette & Shante had ghostwriter's...Shante could freestyle her ass off though...

  • true,, lyte had co writers as well - her brother Milk Dee -

  • Comment removed

  • Antoinette was and still is the shit... the industry just was not kind to her - and Lyte was not her demise it was when she went POP on the 2nd album -

  • she was the great hardest illest female rapper of all time. no man could out rhyme her and no female can touch her. all the real hip hop heads know about her. record label didn't know how to market or handle her. she was ahead of her time. antoinette was rakim,ll cool j and emmnimem all rolled up in one. mc lyte was a joke lyrically compared to antoinette and to me the beef was nothing. mc lyte was the knife and antoinette was the gun. i wish i knew what she doing and to contact her.

  • she wasent that good, you dont even hear about her today. Now dont get me wrong cuz i love A but she was not the best

  • You are sick. She was THE best female rapper EVER! She was also looking good. Her career was not good and bullshit like this (MTV Raps syndrome!) is now her legacy. Her first 4 singles is what's up. Wrong career decision is what messed her upl. Attemps at bullshit to get the MTV Raps and white radio airplay is what messed her. When you start hard you have to finish hard.

  • listen all you numbnuts..this the greatest hardest female that ever rapped.anntoinette was rakim, ll cool j and enimem all rolled up in one. she was ahead of her time and the record label didn't know how to market her. she spit like a dude and none of the greatest rapper could take her out. she has the respect of all the real hip hop heads and i wonder where she is now. if somebody knows tell me.

  • @RRRR86 WOW THANKS FOR THOSE COMPLIMENTS FAM!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • they had fun back then. why cant it be like that now?

  • i still got this tape.the tape version is much harder.she was the shit.

  • You right the album version was tighter - the track hit harder....

  • Big props on put this up, love her first LP

  • omg!!! i was lookin 4 this

  • i've been lookin'for this video like crazy, they got good lookin'b***** in this joint and antoinette's a ill lyricist.

  • The female Rakim, they use to call her.

  • WAS PAULA JAI WHITE IN THIS VIDEO

  • YES ABOUT TIME. I LOVE THiS ViDEO.

  • This is the remix version I bet.

  • Yes it is. For some reason a lot of videos from the 80's and 90's were remix versions you couldn't find on the album. I never understood why.

  • I guess the album cut wasnt good enough for the video shoot.

  • Nice vid.

goodness, gracious. I remember that haircut!
