the six people who disliked this must have been so excited to press "like" that their hand slipped and the accidentally pressed the dislike button... :D
I love both the Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie. I'mma huge Gibbard fan. I don't think the two bands are very similar, though. Death Cab for Cutie is more instrumental and the lyrics are usually much heavier in meaning. The Postal Service is less-serious and more electronic....
To the people who are saying that "the postal service" is much better than "death cab for cutie," aren't the main singers for both bands the same person?
@jennyshim0503 yes they are, his name is Ben Gibbard. the Postal Service is a project he did with his friend, a DJ, which is why everything of this album is full of synth and sounds a little more electronic.
Anyone who loves this # needs to check out the Shins cover of this tune...the Shins improved upon it imo, if for no other reason than their carefree tempo juxtaposed against doomsdays lyrics, so good...
Sort of.. The, "We will become silhouettes" part is in reference to when a Nuclear Bomb is detonated peoples shadows are cast on sturdy walls (ie brick walls). But.. Ben Gibbard draws interesting imagery, at least how I interpret it, he's speaking of someone who becomes a shut in after a poor ending to a relationship.
Anyway, it was pretty daft of you to correct someone like that. (Unless you are trolling) when there are several replies that explain the lyrics much better. What's on the surface is very blatantly explained as nuclear warfare, I'm pretty confident 90% of people who hear this song gather that much. But there are those, like yourself who can't find anything beyond that.
In conclusion, maybe Nickleback would be a better band for you. Base lyrics with nothing behind them..
@louiegirl101 well the great people of japan and thier island didnt know the bomb was coming so i dont think they had think to store thier empty coberts with cans of food filterd water and pictures of you i think its about after math of a relation ship and how its over there will be nothing more than a meare image of what was and only a silhouette will be there after he/she has gone but its anyway you wanna percive it as
kind of horrible, really... knowing were some of te lyrics come from...
for instance, they're referring to the Silhouette created when an atomic blast literally leaves behind permanent Silhouettes due to the intensity of the flash.
Get over it. People like different things, freedom of speech you up tight child. And yes owl city does sound like them in the song "Fireflies." that everybody knows. That's just my opinion.
Herp derp I am aware, "Them" = Plural. It's just that I didn't know that Owl City was only one person BECAUSE I DON'T CARE. I wasn't aware it was popular to not like this band, his singing is whiney, the music is uninspired and unoriginal, and *his* lyrics are very base. I just don't like them because it's not good.
And I do like the, "Stop Arguing" after attempting to make me look silly, and to have the last word.. Good day.
is it funny that my teacher showed me this song~ and i love it! >w<

ben gibbard writes the most beautiful abstract lyrics that just work perfectly every time, it's astonishing.
and could tamborello be more on point with every beat he makes? my god..

@wutupjosh Aye aye. I used to quote lines from "Such Great Heights" to my sisters to demonstrate how impressive Gibbard's writing capabilities were.

@Joey7891 i can see how you think that. i looked at lyrics and it kinda does seem like he is talking a nuclear war.

It's about hiroshima and how all the people deteriorated and all that was left was their silhouettes. All the lyrics explain more though
louiegirl101 2 years ago
Well, you're half right. On the surface that is what the song is about, but like many of their songs, there is a deeper meaning behind they words.
Nice try though.

Exarian 2 years ago
yes the lyrics refer to atomic warfare
but its just a metaphor in this song
the bomb room is his own sanctuary maybe his room
echoes refer to his loneliness
news reports mean the ppl around him making things worse and the guts exploding is him snapping from all the sadness goin on
lastly the "silhouette" refers to his imprint on the girl he lost wich is all that hell be to her just a silhouette

Did you honestly just say, "Freedom of Speech" and then tell me I'm a child for speaking my mind? Gotta love hypocrisy.
RunningBear22 2 years ago
The fact that you tell people to stop listening to someone else because YOU don't like them is childish.
kassandrakrazy 2 years ago 2
You say 'Them'.. One guy is not them (please correct me if Owl City IS actually more than one guy)
There is a point when the anti hype goes too far. Alot of people like Owl City, how about we all stop arguing about it.
