Such a painful scene to watch. And memorable too. I haven't seen this film in it's entirety for years and this scene stands out as almost too painful and private to watch again. Great acting by Natalie here.
i read that this was one of two scenes that Natalie found it difficult to do....this one because this scene mirrored Natalie's relationship with her mother because her mother spent half her life controlling Natalie and how she hated her mother and she worried about her disfigured wrist being exposed....the second scene was from when Deenie is trying to kill herself by drowning because Natalie was terrified of water and the stunt double that day was unable to do the scene so Natalie had to

In the European release there is a standin who did a full rear shot of natalie, and the shower scenes with the basketball team show some behinds, no big deal for the early sixties, but totally cut for the rest of America.
Look for her disfigured left wrist in this scene. It was one of the few times in her life when she let it be seen on film. She broke it as a child on the set of The Green Promise and it was never set correctly.
HOW did she not get the Oscar for this?! She was just so magnificent in this movie. Maybe I should watch SL's movie, cause at this point I just can't see how this performance was beaten.
@steckylove truly the most beautiful creature that ever passed through hollywood. A true lady of elegance and dignity. Her phenomenal acting is surpassed only by her breath taking beauty.
This makes her a great actress - I'm moved to exhaustion over five scenes in this movie - the sister slut, classroom scene, him screwing around with the whore, and the last scene makes me quiver.
PLEASE WATCH THIS !!This is what a guy can do to a girl.. drive her mad. LOL Men can be dawgs sometimes. This is a great scene. Its from Splendor in the Grass. Typical Natalie Wood freak out scene. I love her!
@FortunatoLanfranchi He did not do anything to her! He actually did the right thing. He knew that she was a woman of virtue who could not fulfill his needs. She actually offers herself twice to him. But instead of taking advantage of her, he respected her enough to break it off. even though it hurt him to do so. She is clearly a psychologically unstable young woman; who is an unfortunate victim of the time period. this is why i hate dyke feminism. Not everything a man does is wrong you moron!

Watch this. She was driven mad by some dude. Sometimes they can be dawgs. lol. This is a typical Natalie Wood Moment. I love this scene. You should see the movie. lol I've had freak out moments like this...lol
This is one of my favorite films ever. I've been through something very similar to what this film is about, and had a meltdown similar to the school scene
This movie was so awesome! Elia Kazan's direction and Natalie Woods' performance should have made this a sure multiple Oscar winning movie. I can't see anyone in Hollywood today making anything close to what this movie is like. Unless there a few car chasing, multiple murder, blood and guts scenes...
One of the greatest acting performances I've seen, she carried the entire movie on her back, how did she not win an Oscar?? It makes no sense.

@etrax2000 Sounds like they put it in JUST for the European release. Kind of unnecessary and gratuitous.
