from 0:36 to 0:57 is typical of late Shostakovich. He was drawn to Jewish music and it is clearly evident in this galloping dance-melody. Impressively intense and full of vivacity! Awesome performance by Chang. Awesome concerto by Shostakovich!
I don't know if this is the best version, but I don't need any better. This was, for me, complete. I am not tempted to check out the "competition". Kamsahamnida !
Han-Na Chang nous fait vivre le concerto de l'intérieur. Extraordinaire sensation ! On lit sur son visage toute la violence de la partition. Impression durable ! Bravo à elle. On aime Shostakovich en la regardant.
@atirisdes Well, gotta keep in touch with how Shostakovich wrote it in the USSR right? When parts of this piece simulate Stalin's secret police, playing it on the communist side may not be a bad thing.
this is a battle can you hear it???!!!...and shes winning..or whoever is fighting...running..power...amzingggg..fantastic..absorbing.,. hannah chang..YOUR A MONSTER!,,1:37 my god and 1:45,,,, holy shit mannn...shes not playing an instrument shes telling a story,.
Wassman obviously is a kid who wants the attention in youtube by commenting negatives. the kid probably heard the name Rostropovich, but never heard him playing. 99.99% of people in the world want to smack your ugly face, even if you are in a jounior high school. person like you will probably never bring a joy to people around you and the society.
@Wassman / you dont know a shit about her music. Dont think you know something about Shostacovich and judge the greatest musician in the world with your shallow knowledge about cello ^^
doesn't really matter, as you really don't want to be cutting into your fingers when playing the cello, well as long as the strings are at least off of the board ;)
why is there never sheet music for the solo chelo/ trumpet/ violin/ watever. is it because there playing so fast/constantly they dont have time to change pages. also does the conductors score have the solos music on it?
It's because soloists usually play their music so much and are so in tune with it that they memorized the piece. It's kind of like memorizing lyrics to your favorite song on the radio. It's pretty simple once you play the piece a lot. And yes, the conductor's score has the solo part so that he can keep the orchestra together with the soloist.
Han-na Chang remains one of my favourite cellists. And I REALLY LOVE SHOSTAKOVICH!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best interpretation of this piece, even better than the dedicatee, Rostropovich. He's still a real good cellist (and dead. *WAILS MOURNFULLY*) I really miss him.
i think it's more that talent determines the amount a person can draw from practice. some people would probably need to practice more than 10000% more than others to improve as much
You have absolutely no way to prove this as there are no well known musicians who didn't start learning music at an early age and did not put in any hard work.
This is my favorite movement of the cello concerto. Its pure power in the way the cello must play the notes. My friend and i always call this the random cello concerto, but it's not really that random.
She breaths. A LOT! She takes in a lot of air. This is something that a lot of players, even advanced ones, forget to do on a regular basis. It reinforces ensemble and rhythm (more so in a small setting) and regulates your heartrate and helps keep you engergized.
ya, i never get my breathing right too. haha. my teacher had to constantly remind me to breath breath and breath and i just forgot about it half way through my playing. especially when i do scalings. Maybe they should post a video on "how to breath naturally when playing".
There is a product out there called "Hanna's alt". It's a very exclusive salt for the wealthiest. The salt is extracted with careful and au courant technology from Han-na Chang's sweet salty sweat. Rumours say it that they collect every drop of her sweat after a concert or practice session with a special knife-like implement. It is pushed against her voluptuous naked body and drawn on it. The preacious sweat is the gathered and treated to make the salt of salts.
It just came to my mind and had to let it go. Now that I read it, it seems a little bizarre. Though it's erotic at the same time. And would be a great business success in today's world, for sure.
As weird as it is, you're probably right. I'm just glad I don't sweat like that when I perform. Of course, I don't play the cello (violinist) and I have yet to play a full concerto with orchestra, let alone at such a high profile venue. So I can't really know how much I would sweat either... Man that's just weird too.
Perhaps the recording isn´t good but can it be true that the orchester (particularly the wind instruments and the bass drum)isn´t equal to han-na chang at all??? It sounds terrible!!:-(
I love her facial expressions! She really gets into the music. I love performers when they do that. She's so good, i wish I could make my cello sing like that. Hey if you wanta crazy cello video type "apocalyptica contest" into the search area. it's a badass cello-rock band.
Facial expressions mean nothing. I listen to almost every classical music, whether it be from a CD or on a live concert, with closed eyes. Then you can hear the music. And this is where Han-na really has an upper hand. She is just terrific and enthralling.
It may be nothing when it comes to the music, but it adds something extra for me. It gives me a little insight into how the music affects the performer. To me, that's crucial.
I disagree. You can fake it all you want, but when it's real, it's undeniable. It's passionate. If an artist is trying to fake an impassioned facial expression, they're music wil reflect it, and there will be a "wrong" feeling from all of it. but if it's genuine, you can tell, like with this.
