As a computer user I purchase software and hardware with the assumption of future compatibility. I don't expect to buy a 32bit-only item to outlast Window 7. As some of us know Microsoft is trying to push computer users into using 64bit. So, what is the good time to make that change for average computer users? Are companies about to stop providing services for 32bit? And how soon would that be? I am hoping to find more insight into that.

The point about hardware compatibility issue is really the first step that everybody needs to take, rather you are upgrading to 32bit or 64bit Win7. It is more like a matter of rather you can do it or not. Something that I was expecting to hear is the future roads for either versions. What are companies releasing in the long term and short term?

Even though I'm a bit late on the "win7" release...What I don't understand is why everyone says "back up your information on this and that". Granted you can have a problem, but no matter what, I've never had a problem partitioning a section of my hard drive, moving all my data to it, and giving it a ridiculous drive name like X, Y or Z. That of course means two things: enough storage room, and knowledge on how to do it. What do you guys think?

HELLOOOO The section about backing up .... When you instal Windows 7, and this also happened with Vista , the is a folder created called Windows.Old so no need to worry about backing up at all , this folder contains ALL of your old files THE LOT

What they're failing to mention is the fact that those with XP (example) can buy the upgrade versions and still be able to to do a full clean install by simply selecting the "Custom Install" box insread of clicking on "Upgrade" box.

You need at least 512MB of RAM to run either Vista or Seven... which I DO NOT recommend. You also need a processor that runs at 1GHz or faster.

One gig of RAM is not enough... everything will bottle neck on you. 2GB is perfect for all normal use and watching videos.

To even be able to install Vista you need 512MB of RAM.

Every OS has its minimum required hardware. XP needed 256MB at the lowest.

I was soo not thinking when I typed that. XD. I installed it with one gig then added 2 more gigs after I installed Seven. I never pay for my OSs because I've been screwed enough by windows.

I spent $300 (including the 22" LCD) building my computer. I have a Phenom X4.

Everything runs excellent. Seven definitely surprised me by how well its built.

I listened to the hype and upgraded to Win 7 from Vista. I regret doing that, there's nothing that was really win 7 does noticeably better than Vista, other than nice backgrounds.

a nice simple thing to do is to copy your new os to your pc with nlite

then when its on your pc make sure its unpacked then go to ill use xp as example)

this will add all files to your desktop when you make a fresh install of xp

this is a very handy tip ive ussed this myself to add things like winrar and my anti-virus

or if you have if you use a differnt program to do it use a program to rip it to an iso then use "universal extracter"

And "Upgrade" where you upgrade from a previous version of windows (xp or vista) and it keeps your data and file systems.
