I definitely don't judge this one as a player or as a teacher, but I have to say I'm a bit tired about people giving "THE" trick that playing blues is all about. That's a nice little thing to think about when you're playing but everybody knows there's a lot more than that. Please stop oversimplifying the blues!

Most of these comments are foolish, but in fact, the man makes a very good point. There are exceptions, but a lot of blues DOES utilize pick up notes as @bluesforpeace demonstrates.. A++++++++

Hmmn... The very first example he uses does not have a committed Blues feel. More like a Rock feel. He may play excellent Blues, but his explanation is pretty far off what Blues is. Using 5th Symphony is way off. if U know Blues, Pick lines are varied, and he is giving an absolute. To my ear, he has a Blues sound, but he is not a serious Blues player. Players of deep blues would not explain Blues the way he does. Playing a sound like the Blues, is not playing the Blues.
