I think the portrayal here isn't about an earthly fight - but more about the spiritual fight. Jesus was definitely fighting throughout the garden and even until his last breath. All he had to do was just walk away and say, "Forget it...I'm not dying for them." But instead he fought his flesh and didn't give in and took the keys to death, hell, and the grave.
