Ird999, there was a huge difference in what a good handling car was in the 60s. Even the nimble Mustang and Camaro would point the doorhandles at the pavement when thrown into turns hard.

I grew up wheeling the iron of the Musclecar era, I know from experience that any intermediate or full size car that didn't just roll over in turns was a "Great handler" My eldest Brother's 66 Impala SS 396 was a great car to powerslide and stayed on most of it's wheels when "Carving" (?) corners.

So GTO means----- certified as conforming to the specifications, as fuel capacity and engine displacement, for a class of standard automobiles (Gran Turismo)Omologato- qualified to engage in various types of competitions. Wow, I had a documented Iris Mist '65 GTO convertable with original Tri-Power. Mine was an automatic though. Ohhhh I miss that car. The musclecar I have now is nice though.
