you are working on a very important report for your company or some scientific stuff you would get a nobel price for. Suddenly your cat, a mouse or an insect appears, hits the mac power cable and all lights go off. This will be the day would wish you had a pc and a broken leg instead of this useless expensive apple toy
At first, I was going to buy a £600 PC. Then I thought... Wait, magnets are pretty expensive these days, I'd better pay the extra £1000 for one in my power cable. Thank you, Robert Webb!
This video forgets to mention that if both mac and pc have an accident PC will recover a lot faster and the medical bill will be half the cost. and if both Die you can buy a (new or 2) latest computer with more powerful hardware with the money you saved buying a mac...
Here's a novel idea; They're both awesome! I personally prefer PC. But that's just because I like what PC has to offer. Macs on the other hand, are good for video, music, and even programming. PC's, are good with gaming, and work related programs. They both have their share of major issues. Some have more issues with macs, and others more with PC. And then you have the different PC's and macs. Each and every one, with it's fair share of problems, and just as many cool, and unique things.
A PC does everything a Mac can do + more and is cheaper.
My PC (Intel i5 etc etc) cost me £489 to buy all my parts (granted i had to build it myself + already had 22 inch HP screen which cost £65. So technically it cost me £554)
The equivilent Mac would be the 21.5inch imac which would cost £1,409
Its a ridiculous price.
Even if you bought my PC prebuilt it would have only cost like £850 Max!
Hell I could buy a £300-£400 top of the line graphics card on top and still spend less!
@tonyth123 You forget to say if you want an upgrade in apple site... They will charge you twice as much than if you make the same upgrade at another pc site.(that includes CPU,hard drive( especially SSD hard drive) and memory RAM. I think macs are beautiful but I hate tha apple treat customers as if they were dumb.... Seriously if I brought a mac just to get its stylish case and OS. WHY!! do I have to Pay twice for an upgrade that is the exact piece of hardware than other laptops?
Yet the mac fanboys will defend them to the death. Its people like that which is why apple can charge what they like for equipment that is esentially exactly the same hardware with the Mac OS, which isnt that great.
They are nice machines just not value for money. As having a magnetic power connector does not justify the extra grand lol
@rellama1 There are a lot of aluminium unibody laptops you know and they cost cheaper and have more powerful hardware. Lets face it people buy macs because they are stylish.Basically apple only makes the unibody then buy the laptop backbone from Taiwan(Like all laptops brands) then put mac OS on it and sell it for 3x of what the hardware actually cost.
This is the only Apple computer I have ever seen that brings up a valid benefit to an Apple computer. And probably the only one that doesn't blatantly lie and slander. "PCs don't do anything fun! Except games, graphic design, the internet, music, you know.. everything that a mac can do, except more."
@bamabound97 have you even used a pc? ever built one yourself? ever run linux after getting it programmed by a pro or after learning to code>? if not, then you're just a daft little fanboy
what about if your out and need to charge up the laptop, say on a train, admitedly macs have 7-10 hour battery lifes these days (2 or 3 times more than a PC laptops) but on the train, the cord would hang beneath ur legs, and if you need to get up could easily trip over it, with a pc the laptop would come with the cord, with a mac the cord would flick off
I believe that you should only make a statement about a certain computer if you have tried to use it? Most Mac users have used Windows while most windows users haven't even learned how to use a Mac yet so how can you make comments about it? It applies both ways so unless you've spent at least a month on both OS's I think you should keep your mouths shut on which is the better OS.
@CatAtomic99 It actually makes your computer safe, not you. I once tripped over the cable supplying my Windows Laptop in the dark and it snapped the connector off. That wouldn't happen with my Mac.
@CatAtomic99 Yep and there are a lot of "retarded" people out there producing art, music, movies, etc. on Macs that you have watched, listened to, and been a part of so I guess that makes you retarded as well.
Actually, I'm not one of those morons you were talking about... what I was saying is that so far, only PC users have tripped over my MacBook Pro's power cord.
I love the little magnetic clippy thing. It is helpful because my sister the other day walked into it and it just popped out, no damage done. God i love apple.
yeah i was pretty bummed when I saw my $2,000 mbp didnt have a firewire port and 2 usb ports side by side so close together that i cant plug in my wireless mouse and flash drive at the same time....
The USB ports are placed far enough for you to plug in multiple APPLE USB devices, but my aftermarket flashdrive and microsoft wireless mouse do not fit (In retrospect to the 2005 range powerbooks where they were split and the disc drive was in the front.) As far as the firewire goes, I'm talking about the standard IEEE 1394 Firewire, there is no port why would I lie dude? Get off apples nuts, I love apple, I am just criticizing the design, if you were to say its perfect your ignorant.
@freshiesss odd because i have a model $200 dollars cheaper than that and it has a firewire and two usb ports in a fine space. it's beautiful. you haven't even looked at a macbook pro. shut the hell up pc sucker.
@freshiesss 1. macbook pros have easily a large enough mousepad on them to not need a mouse. 2. you're an idiot for spending that much when you could just as easily getting a second hand one. 3, it's better to have to unplug your mouse when you're putting in a usb stick than have your laptop break when you trip over the cord.
@freshiesss That's funny, because my $1,200 Macbook Pro has a firewire port and 2 USB ports far enough apart I can use one for divice charging while the other splits a USB port into 3 USB ports with no wires.
Then what are USB storage devices, and the internet for? The concept of storing data on a plastic disc has been around for ages. But nevertheless, you'll still have CD's and DVD's. So how again has everything been though out with a mac product? I'm still loving the USB ports being so close together. When you plug in a flash drive, it blocks your only other USB port. Hmmm....
True...But most ppl don't put their desktop's in any position to even be tipped off a table much less Launched off as this advertisement suggests(Also, yes laptops have battery but they do need the occasional charge hence the bad and inconvenient positioning of them usually resulting in the said cord disturbance)
This just shows that Apple have chargers that use magnet that just slips off the computer if anyone should happen to step on the charger.
And most (maybe every) PC has a charger connected straight to the PC, and I know that many have been having their pc broke because of the charging cable.
Everything is thought out carefully? BULLSHIT.. How many usb ports are available on any mac book? And let's try to run a cd on an Air. Hey, I have a firewire device...can I use it on my macbook? ....
My macbook pro has a firewire port. If you don't like the air don't buy it. I've never needed more ports. A lot of mac peripherals use bluetooth. You're full of shit.
The current entry level macbook comes with zero firewire ports, and two USB ports. I was also referring to the air not having a firewire. And the pro series comes with a firewire800, but you have to pay $1199 for the entry level pro? Sounds great... yeah right.
It seems like you were the one who didn't think things out not apple..? Did you really buy the Air without knowing it had no CD drive? I personally would never buy an Air but I'm not gonna criticise apple for making such a machine available, some people would prefer a lighter machine and no CD drive, I'm sure such ppl have another machine for when they need a CD drive and are very on the go people. People who can't afford that or who it's not worth it for don't buy it. Simple..
Anyone with eyes can see that the Air is too thin to fit a CD drive inside. And your theory on how Americans should spend their money is enlightening. No way is that the reason why American Citizens have the greatest debt to credit card companies?
@cjeggers So you're nothing expensive/unnecessary should exist as some ppl who can't afford it will buy it on credit? I don't see why apple shouldn't make products which some people want to buy just because some people are silly with their money. I hardly gave a "theory on how americans should spend their money" I just gave thoughts on a product, plus I'm not american, I didn't specify US "people". Its pretty obvious you shouldn't buy a product you can't afford. I don't want/have a credit card.
@cjeggers also, I can't work out which comment I was replying to originally but based on what I said I am guessing that I thought you or whoever I was talking to had bought the Air without first checking if it had a CD drive based on what was said in your/their comment. I personally think it is obvious it hasn't got one too.
I like the ending of the US 1 better where he is like my life is flashing before my eye, I see a sunset in a feild of wheat and macs like, Isnt that your screensaver?
its just pointing out how every little detail is thought through to give the user uptmost satisfaction. i thought this was the best Uk one so far anyways
wooow so something that actually requires thinking sucks huh? xD explains the society these days i'd rather take that cardboard box then m8, at least i can make something i like out of myself.
your comparing hardware with software now? :P i was talking about linux here, not hardware.. perhaps you know the difference, at least i hope you do.
but fyi, linux is an operating system, not hardware. the fact you actually can tell linux HOW to work with the hardware is the fun part, offcourse if your to lazy.. then dont.. but mate, please learn the difference :P
Back in the day Macs had specialized hardware that made them much better than a PC. Nowadays the hardware is identical: Intel/Intel platform. So Mac = PC, at a base level, and is just as good as any other good PC laptop!
I know people who choose to install Vista on their Mac, don't know why, but that shows that not everybody agrees on these issues.
Reminds me of an article I read (more about the US version of these ads) saying the ads were counter-productive because the PC character is lovable in spite of the ostensible point of the ads to make PCs seem lame. Though Webb comes across as far less douchey than Justin Long. That said, I use a Mac.
On a barely related note, how great will John Hodgman on QI be?
Charlie Brooker said that about the ads, because the audience thinks of Mark and Jeremy. Mark is flawed but ultimately loveable, whereas Jez is just a wanker.
Smartest and funniest guest, rather than those who are funny but you're not impressed with knowledge (still good) or worse, those who actually care about points and are boring
So macs have built in cameras eh? So what happens if that breaks? you'll have to either send the whole thing off for repairs or buy a webcam, I'll stick with my good ol' wired webcam thank you.
That's the beauty of it... It doesn't break. And if it does, then it's your fault. Only an idiot would let anything happen to his/her own Mac, the one thing people should hold dear. It's as the Japanese say: 馬鹿は死ななきゃ治らない。A fool can only be cured by death. Now that I've forgot my original point, I wish many and many blue screens and incomprehensible errors about DLLs and all that crap upon you. May you rejoice in the steaming hot pile of crap that is Windows.
I will admit, I go on porn sometimes (Not to ejaculate) but I dont go on it everyday, maybe like twice a month. Some people are so stupid and go on it 24/7. Then when they have 60 million viruses, they ask themselves..... how did get all these!?!
O.o correct me if I'm wrong, but macs are only a small percentage so there's really no purpose for people to make viruses as they can't make a decent profit out of it..
And why does it MATTER? Macs are good for certain things, PCs are good at others.
Out of interest why are you so insulted by what computer people use?
You do realize it's simply a matter of personal taste don't you?
i mean it's like fighting over which football team is better, which doesn't change how good each team is, nor does it change people's opinion of "their" team
He doesnt really need to be jolly- in the UK Mitchell and Webb are a well known comedy due who pretty much lavish in the idea that Mitchell is the nerdy 'behind the times' kinda guy whilst Webb is the cool cat of the team. :p
not true. they point out bad points of pc AND THEN state why the mac way is better. eg the power cord on pc will pull the whole computer 2 the ground, and then it says why the mac is better-magnetic and pops out.
all pc fans hear in these adverts is the parts where they criticise pcs when in actual fact if u

@cjeggers also, I can't work out which comment I was replying to originally but based on what I said I am guessing that I thought you or whoever I was talking to had bought the Air without first checking if it had a CD drive based on what was said in your/their comment. I personally think it is obvious it hasn't got one too.
moogle301 1 year ago
My MacBook Pro has three USB ports. The MacBook Air is an ultraportable computer. Almost all ultraportables don't have disc drives.
duckwithnukes 2 years ago
Thanks for that beacon of knowledge. I've never heard of Netbooks before.
cjeggers 2 years ago 3
why would a powercord coming out make you lose all your data? its a laptop it has a battery in it
fruad 2 years ago
Someone trips on the cord, pulling the laptop off the desk. It's that simple.
duckwithnukes 2 years ago
if they made a better battery, i'd wager that wouldn't happen nearly as much.
Tanyableu 2 years ago 2
What wouldn't happen? MacBooks have extremely good battery lives.
duckwithnukes 2 years ago
so you would rather have it broken then shut down? and i dont get how you loose data when it unplugs it switches to battery power
lSTAYHlGH 2 years ago
yeah I get how you can pull the chord, but I don't get why that means you lose data.. unless you had 0% and your laptop shut down.
jerona 2 years ago
same here
a laptop would have a battery in it
and when unplugged it runs on battery
the magnetic thing seems to be annoying tho, since it takes significantly less effort to pull out
remirap 2 years ago 2
how does that make you lose all your data? it comes with the laptops..
jerona 2 years ago
lol these commercials arent serious right?
like.. theyre not actually mac advertisements
theyre just skits making fun of them?
MBR384 2 years ago
no they are real advertisements, they are just the ones played in the UK
fruad 2 years ago
youd have to be so stupid to be convinced by them haha
MBR384 2 years ago
youre right, cause you know, window'spower cords dont pop out, or have any built in webcams either. nice going mac.
wartownkidx 2 years ago
Of course, PCs don't have the magnetic power coard thing on laptops because Apple has patented it, and now they're bragging about PCs not having it.

Well, PC should have thought about it before then...

Mac sucks and they do have viruses. Since almost nobody uses a Mac, nobody writes viruses for them.

So walk past anyone on a Mac and crash and lose most of the data. Sweet.
Also, the PC could be easily fixed in that condition.
Mac would have to be binned.

In my opinion, it's best to go Mac or Linux. They're not as popular, so the retarded virus creators don't make any... viruses on those OSes.
JaradTProductions 2 years ago
Not ture there are viruses
Jessevprince111 2 years ago
Linux is unpopular for a reason, it's shit.
You'd be as well building a PC from scratch out of cardboard. You've have to run less maintenance.
Mac doesn't run most of anything. Most virus's, games, software...
DeathlyCrunch 2 years ago
wooow so something that actually requires thinking sucks huh? xD explains the society these days i'd rather take that cardboard box then m8, at least i can make something i like out of myself.
Taronga 2 years ago
And building a PC from scratch doesn't require thinking?
Nothing runs on a Linux, you have to trick all your programs into thinking you've got a computer at doesn't suck dick. I bet that's barrels of fun.
DeathlyCrunch 2 years ago 3
your comparing hardware with software now? :P i was talking about linux here, not hardware.. perhaps you know the difference, at least i hope you do.
but fyi, linux is an operating system, not hardware. the fact you actually can tell linux HOW to work with the hardware is the fun part, offcourse if your to lazy.. then dont.. but mate, please learn the difference :P
Taronga 2 years ago
Back in the day Macs had specialized hardware that made them much better than a PC. Nowadays the hardware is identical: Intel/Intel platform. So Mac = PC, at a base level, and is just as good as any other good PC laptop!
I know people who choose to install Vista on their Mac, don't know why, but that shows that not everybody agrees on these issues.
elfendor 2 years ago 2
but pc has the new intel i7 which wint be on mac for a while and when it does there will be a newer better processor
sedrader 2 years ago 3
Reminds me of an article I read (more about the US version of these ads) saying the ads were counter-productive because the PC character is lovable in spite of the ostensible point of the ads to make PCs seem lame. Though Webb comes across as far less douchey than Justin Long. That said, I use a Mac.
On a barely related note, how great will John Hodgman on QI be?
thatdrattedcat 2 years ago 2
Charlie Brooker said that about the ads, because the audience thinks of Mark and Jeremy. Mark is flawed but ultimately loveable, whereas Jez is just a wanker.
cookieflower 2 years ago
Exactly. Like what this article says - slate [dot] com/id/2143810/ except applied to the UK version.
thatdrattedcat 2 years ago
However, despite flaws in the advertising, I am enjoying my brand new Mac.
(Yes, I am traitorous)

Ooh he'd be awesome!!
But I'd still prefer Mitchell :)

So macs have built in cameras eh? So what happens if that breaks? you'll have to either send the whole thing off for repairs or buy a webcam, I'll stick with my good ol' wired webcam thank you.
dragonforce525 2 years ago
That's the beauty of it... It doesn't break. And if it does, then it's your fault. Only an idiot would let anything happen to his/her own Mac, the one thing people should hold dear. It's as the Japanese say: 馬鹿は死ななきゃ治らない。A fool can only be cured by death. Now that I've forgot my original point, I wish many and many blue screens and incomprehensible errors about DLLs and all that crap upon you. May you rejoice in the steaming hot pile of crap that is Windows.
Phate18 2 years ago
Re-read what you just wrote, it doesn't break, I stopped reading your comment after that line.

Why don't we get your so called "Viruses" as easily as PC's do. huh?
Thats what I thought
ImAgonistic 2 years ago
people that get viruses on PC's are idiots - their probibly using a portal for viruses like Internet explorer
or DLing stuff from sites that arent safe (not looking to see if the site is safe or not)
DiamondDave72 2 years ago 2
Yeah I know.
I will admit, I go on porn sometimes (Not to ejaculate) but I dont go on it everyday, maybe like twice a month. Some people are so stupid and go on it 24/7. Then when they have 60 million viruses, they ask themselves..... how did get all these!?!
ImAgonistic 2 years ago
O.o correct me if I'm wrong, but macs are only a small percentage so there's really no purpose for people to make viruses as they can't make a decent profit out of it..
And why does it MATTER? Macs are good for certain things, PCs are good at others.
KaleidoKat 2 years ago
Exactly why I ask myself "Why do people fight!?".
ImAgonistic 2 years ago
Out of interest why are you so insulted by what computer people use?
You do realize it's simply a matter of personal taste don't you?
i mean it's like fighting over which football team is better, which doesn't change how good each team is, nor does it change people's opinion of "their" team

He doesnt really need to be jolly- in the UK Mitchell and Webb are a well known comedy due who pretty much lavish in the idea that Mitchell is the nerdy 'behind the times' kinda guy whilst Webb is the cool cat of the team. :p

So if I put a Mac on a desk and the desk falls apart and dumps the Mac on the ground, I can make a commercial about how badly Macbooks suck?
Okay.

NADstudio 2 years ago
yes because Macs are so much more durable than PCs with their rugged materials and robust build
granted, the magnetic power cord is a good idea
but i have yet to see a tough mac
there's PCs that you can drop from 2 storey buildings cause they have shock proof everything

apple is so desperate to get more customers. they just point how 'bad' PCs are, instead of telling sothething good about them
Nocturnox65 2 years ago 4
not true. they point out bad points of pc AND THEN state why the mac way is better. eg the power cord on pc will pull the whole computer 2 the ground, and then it says why the mac is better-magnetic and pops out.
all pc fans hear in these adverts is the parts where they criticise pcs when in actual fact if u
